Support for people experiencing domestic abuse One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence. The government defines domestic violence as "any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality". If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, it is important to get help. This information has been produced to make it easier to find support available for patients living in the Eccleshill area.

Support ALL: Bradford Councelling Services - Off the Record (Freedom Project) 24 Barry Street, Bradford BD1 2AW Freedom Project. A counselling service for women who have experienced abuse and/or domestic violence. A variety of counselling approaches is used including integrative therapy, person-centred, psychodynamic, solution-focused therapy, EMDR and cognitive behavioural therapy. ALL: Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Survivors Service: Bradford c/o Bradford CVS, 19-25 Sunbridge Road, Bradford BD1 2AY Provides a helpline and face-to-face counselling for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence or abuse at any time in their lives. Emergency and ongoing support. Service can accompany women to the police station, courts and doctors and provide information on police, court and medical procedures. ALL: Staying Put PO Box 449, Bradford BD1 2XB Staying Put supports women, including those in same-sex relationships, to stay in their own homes following domestic abuse as an alternative to hostel or refuge accommodation. Provides practical support including panic alarms and lock changes; access to children's services that do recovery work with children following domestic abuse; legal assistance covering women's options; accompanying women to court etc. Independent Domestic Violence Advisers support women through criminal courts and Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences. Access to perpetrator programme is available for abusive partners, which aims to affect behaviour change. One-to-one work takes place in service users' homes or public places e.g. town, cafe etc. Cultural support available for Asian women.

Family Action: HOPE project for Children 207 Cutler Heights Lane, Bradford BD4 9JB A district-wide service for children between the ages of 5 and 13 years who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. The project offers a range of support services to both children and non-perpetrator parents in order to protect and aid recovery. The confidential one-to-one service is a safe environment where children are helped to recognise their own feelings; how to express any fears, anger and emotions in a positive manner; and to empower themselves in situations which threaten their wellbeing. ISIS Project for Women and Children Ltd ISIS, Crown Buildings, John Street, Shipley BD18 3HU A qualified Family Links Nurturing Programme Practitioner helps women and their children to survive the trauma of mental distress by providing time and space within a safe and nurturing environment for healing and recovery to take place together with . A crèche is provided for 0-5s. Access to this service is by written referral only.
