SUNDAY SERVICE RESOURCES Songs and Hymns NOTES It has been our aim to provide a list of readily accessible hymns and songs. Therefore, we have principally quoted songs in the popular “Songs of Fellowship” and “Mission Praise” series. Some songs from other sources, however, were worth including, and we have done so. These books seem to be available at the time of writing through Christian bookshops or via the internet (website addresses given by each book title, below). Where website links are given, they are either to a free source of words (where you might need to register) or an online shop of sheet music (e.g. www.kingswaysongs. com where songs are generally £1.49 each). Grateful thanks to Pete Gunstone, music director at Lee Abbey Devon for his help with compiling this list and suggesting arrangements and resources. We have categorised these songs to indicate a general level of suitability to the musical resources you might have available to you within your church. Please note that this list is to provide what we hope are helpful guidelines for those planning, rather than de facto judgements on their suitability! Please honour the songwriters and publishers by ensuring that you have the relevant CCLI license for reproducing words, and the MRL for the sheet music. Please note that not all these songs will be covered by such licenses, and that you will need to make suitable arrangements with the publishers to cover their usage. Thank you.

SUNDAY SERVICE RESOURCES Songs and Hymns Creation sings the Father’s song Creation sings the Father’s song He calls the sun to wake the dawn And run the course of day, Till evening falls in crimson rays. His fingerprints in flakes of snow, His breath upon this spinning globe, He charts the eagle’s flight; Commands the newborn baby’s cry. Hallelujah! Let all creation stand and sing: Hallelujah! Fill the earth with songs of worship; Tell the wonders of creation’s King. Creation gazed upon his face; The ageless One in time’s embrace; Unveiled the Father’s plan of reconciling God and man. A second Adam walked the earth, Whose blameless life would break the curse, Whose death would set us free To live with him eternally. Hallelujah! Let all creation stand and sing: Hallelujah! Fill the earth with songs of worship; Tell the wonders of creation’s King. Creation longs for his return, When Christ shall reign upon the earth; The bitter wars that rage Are birth pangs of a coming age. When he renews the land and sky, All heaven will sing and earth reply With one resplendent theme: The glories of our God and King! Hallelujah! Let all creation stand and sing: Hallelujah! Fill the earth with songs of worship; Tell the wonders of creation’s King.

Anthem for A Rocha (Tune: Abbot’s Leigh)

Great designer, Master Builder; Lord of earth and air and space, Yours is every star and planet; All of life within its place. Every person in your keeping; Those of every age and race, Gathered in to be your people Through the fullness of your grace. All around us are the symbols Of your greatness and your might; Every day we see the signals In the darkness and the light. All the time your power is showing What is wrong and what is right; Every moment brings your glory And your wisdom into sight. Hidden deep within the cosmos Is the secret of your love; Shining out towards your children, Touching earth and heaven above. All creation sings your praises; Every creature that can move Knows the strength you give to eagles, And the beauty of the dove. The extent of your dominion Is too far for eye to scan; You enfold each phase of history Since the universe began. You still hold in your deep counsels, Though as yet unknown to man, Everything within the orbit Of your perfect sovereign plan! DAPHNE WARREN © OCTOBER 2005

SUNDAY SERVICE RESOURCES Songs and Hymns O Lord the Clouds are Gathering (suggested to be sung to Graham Kendrick’s music – see spreadsheet) O Lord, the clouds are gathering, The climate storm unleashed The seas are rising. O Lord, the beauty you have made, Destroyed by selfish greed Your world is dying. Have mercy, Lord, (Men) Have mercy, Lord, (Women) Forgive us, Lord, (Men) Forgive us, Lord, (Women) Restore us, Lord, (All) Revive Your church again. Let justice flow (Men) Let justice flow (Women) Like rivers, (Men) Like rivers, (Women) And righteousness like a never failing stream. (All) O Lord, as species you have made, To sing your praise are gone Their worship silenced; O Lord, as drought and famine stalk The weakest try to flee From war and violence. O Lord, across the earth today We reap what we have sown, Creation groaning, Yet, O Lord while precious lives are lost, Our carbon footprint grows Our hearts are stony. O Lord, we pray your kingdom come, On earth now, as in heaven, We need your healing, O Lord, please change our hearts, our minds, Our lifestyles and our lives, Your grace revealing. DAVE BOOKLESS, 2006

Tell me, who made all of creation? Tell me, who made all of creation? Who designed the wonders of nature? Whose idea was pattern and colour, Wonderful to see?

Everywhere around me, I can see the hand of God, The evidence surrounds me, In the greatness of his world. Everywhere around me, I can see the hand of God, The evidence surrounds me, In the greatness of his world.

Tell me, who made music and laughter? Who designed our bodies to start with? Whose idea was thinking and feeling? Who gave life to me?

Everywhere around me …

Don’t stop looking, don’t stop believing, God is to be found when you seek him. All creation tells of his glory, For eternity.

Everywhere around me …

“ALL THE ASSEMBLY SONGS YOU’LL EVER NEED” (KEVIN MAYHEW)

SUNDAY SERVICE RESOURCES Songs and Hymns You sustain the tides and seasons, You set the rhythms of the earth. You give us times for work and play and rest to worship you and praise your worth. You are the Lord … We confess that we have squandered all your gifts, so freely given. Broken, plundered and polluted, Lord, have mercy on your world. You are the Lord … Yet, we thank you that redemption has begun in Jesus Christ. We pray and work with you in partnership, “May your kingdom come on earth!” You are the Lord … After last chorus: Thank you, thank you Jesus, By you all things were made. Before your throne we bow the knee, Lord of heaven and earth.

You are the Lord of all Creation You are the Lord of all creation, You are the Lord of all the earth. You give us all good things in heaven and earth, richly to enjoy. You made the planets in their orbits, The stars in all their galaxies. You are deeper than the deepest space and yet you care for me. You are the Lord … Your love, it reaches out to heavens, In your hands, the depths of earth. Yours the fragile ecosystems, Finely balanced, full of life. You are the Lord …

For communion: Thank you, thank you Jesus, For giving us new life. You set before us bread and wine, Lord of heaven and earth. LAURIE BURN © OCTOBER 2003

You shall go out with Joy You shall go out with joy, And be led forth with peace, And the mountains and the hills Shall break forth before you. There’ll be shouts of joy, And the trees of the field Shall clap, shall clap their hands. And the trees of the field shall clap their hands (x3) And you’ll go out with joy.

SUNDAY SERVICE RESOURCES Songs and Hymns But look at what we do To all that God has given As we lay waste the land, And poison the atmosphere Cut down the trees And burn up the oil And pollute the oceans deep. And the trees of the field now mourn and weep (x 3) And all creation sighs. So let us work and pray And with God’s help succeed In preserving this world For new generations Then the seas and hills Shall shout again with joy And the trees shall clap their hands. And the trees of the field shall clap their hands, (x 3) And you’ll go out with joy. Repeat the first verse at the end.
