LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING

Dessert reception to follow Open House Sunday, December 11 from 2—6 pm At the gernenz home, 1012 Oakridge Drive

I

t’s the most wonderful time of the year!” Christmas: a time for parties and caroling, mistletoe and ugly sweaters. Families gather and friends celebrate. Radio stations flood their playlists with “Jingle Bells” and “Joy to the World.” Television broadcasts are filled with an endless string of “special presentations.” Christmas changes everything.

Strangely enough, while Christmas transforms everything around us in a most remarkable way, the first Christmas came and went without a lot of fanfare. In fact, with the exception of a small band of shepherds and a handful of wise men, the birth of Jesus went quietly unnoticed for years. Then again, when you think about it, the birth of Jesus still goes quietly unnoticed in our day as well. Even while manger scenes are proudly displayed on store fronts and front yards, even while the name of Jesus is being recited in pageants and sung over our radios, even in all our activity and preparation, Jesus quietly escapes the attention of many; perhaps the attention of most. And if we are not careful, he’ll escape our attention as well. If we aren’t intentional, even in the church, before we know it, we’ll be putting away trees and

taking down lights and we will have missed it. We will have missed Him. Don’t let Jesus be the unnoticed guest at your celebrations this Christmas. Don’t let Him sit quietly in the background, silent in His manger, while we go about our busy holiday schedules. Let’s conspire together to place the spotlight on our Savior this Christmas. More than “keeping Christ is CHRISTmas” let us truly put Christ at the center of our celebrations. Let the presents and the meals and the egg nog and the carols and the calendar focus on the message that God became man so that He could bring man back to God. Let’s declare with heartfelt sincerity that Jesus is not only the “reason for the season” but that He is the reason for living. Our Lord Jesus should be recognized as the sweetest, most precious, most meaningful person in all of creation. When the unmistakable marks of our Christmas celebration fade into January and all the boxes are placed back in the attic, all things will once again go back to normal. Christmas may change everything, but only for a season; the change Christ brings in our lives is eternal. Merry Christmas.

We all know how important a first impression is. Our desire is to make a positive first impression with our guests every Sunday morning at FBC. We are looking for people to greet and welcome all who walk through our doors. If you are looking for a place to serve, please talk with Heather about joining our Greeting Team. [email protected]

LIGHT NIGHT VISITATION: God was so gracious to bless us with an amazing night of ministry at Light Night! We had over 800 guests and approximately 100 people heard the gospel ! Thank you so much to all who prayed, donated candy, helped at the workday, hosted a booth, cooked food, or invited friends! We will be visiting those who expressed an interest in finding a church home on Sunday, December 4. We will meet at the church at 2:00 and split into teams.
