Summerlin Academy Uniform Policy GENERAL: Summerlin Academy is a choice, public military school. Summerlin and its Cadet Corp strive to emulate the characteristics, appearance, and demeanor of a military service academy. Cadets are held to high standards in Academics, Character, Discipline, and Uniform Appearance. Adherence to and compliance with these basic tenants are critical to the organizational structure of the school and is indicative of a cadet’s compliance. All cadets must “Participate with a Spirit of Willingness”. Cadets failing to adhere or unwilling to adhere to these policies are in violation of the uniform policy. Multiple violations of these policies, or any of the academy’s policies, place a cadet in the status of being Non-compliant. Non-compliant cadets are disruptive and threaten the good order and discipline within the Cadet Corp. Cadets deemed non-compliant are placed in a non-favorable status and are subject to dismissal for failing to participate with a “Spirit of Willingness”. Summerlin provides a safe, structured learning environment for all cadets willing and able to comply with its policies and procedures. Every cadet has a personal stake in ensuring that their attendance at Summerlin helps to maintain its tradition in Academics, Character enrichment, and Community service.

Haircut and grooming policies General: The Summerlin Academy program is a uniformed program where discipline is judged, in part, by the manner in which a cadet wears a prescribed uniform, as well as by the individual’s personal appearance. Therefore, a neat and well-groomed appearance by all cadets is fundamental to the Summerlin Academy program and contributes to building the pride and esprit-de-corp essential to an effective Corp of Cadets. The requirements for grooming and appearance standards are necessary to maintain uniformity. Many hair styles are acceptable, as long as they are neat and conservative. It is not possible to address every acceptable hair style, or what is indicative of neat and conservative grooming. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the JROTC faculty to exercise good judgment in the enforcement of SA policies. All cadets will comply with the hair, fingernail, and grooming standard while in SA uniform as well as while participating in SA activities and events.
