Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 19, 2015

Summer This and That…. A word of thanks to all who helped with our St. Thomas More Festival and Feast Mass and procession! The final numbers are in and gratefully we have made a profit this year. So many people helped to make these events enjoyable, catechetical, evangelical and spiritual. The well-timed reflection on St. Thomas More as husband and father could not have been more poignant and inspiring. Special thanks to Roger and Kelly Friedt for their witness and sharing. While our Eucharistic procession was moved indoors, it was not rained out! Instead, we held an indoor procession similar to our Holy Thursday procession led by our vibrant Knights of Columbus and the Brotherhood of Hope missionaries and their college guests. Thank you Msgr. Halloran for presiding.

Wedding Anniversary Celebration

The Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment of the Diocese of Providence is sponsoring a Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, September 20th at 1:00PM at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. Married couples who are celebrating their 25th, 40th, 50th and Over anniversary will be honored at this celebration. Couples can register for this event through the parish office before August 21st. This celebration will include Mass, renewal of marriage vows and a personalized certificate for each couple. Following the Mass, there will be a reception for the couples and their families. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin is the main celebrant and homilist.

Christ’s Presence in the World There's a bit of a "missing link" in the first two sentences of today's Gospel from Mark. In the first, the apostles return from having been sent out on mission two by two ("one who is sent" is the meaning of "apostle"). Their instructions were to preach repentance, drive out demons, and heal the sick in Jesus' name. In the second sentence, Jesus tells them to come away with him and rest a while. It would be nice for us to imagine that, between those two sentences, a look of amazed gratitude and pleasure crossed the face of Jesus as he hears of the kingdom proclaimed in his name, and how they didn't have to shake the dust off their feet anywhere. They deserved a rest! It might not be bad for us, when we gather together with Jesus as the apostles do today, to do this kind of debriefing, allowing the Lord to hear what we've sought to do in his name, our successes, our failures, our need to get away with him for a while to be fortified for further work in God's name. For we, the baptized, are not only the flock of Jesus Christ; through water and the power of the Spirit we have also become the Body of Christ, the presence of the Shepherd for the life of the world. Summer is here, so please be a good neighbor. If you attend Mass at St. Veronica Chapel, please do not park in the driveway by the neighboring condos or block any driveways. If there is an emergency, fire trucks and ambulances may not be able to get though. Thank you!

Please do not block driveway Thank you!

Drummer Sought

We are in need of a welcome family for a girl from Italy who must be in Rhode Island. She has a priest relative here. Cristina plays volleyball, and is athletic. She needs to be in a pet free home. She has good English, and also speaks Polish She will be in the 12th grade. She plays the piano and describes herself as curious and outgoing. She will arrive in late August. Welcome families provide an 8 week placement while we continue to search for a permanent family. This is critically important because the students can’t apply for a travel visa until they have a family to come to. For more information, please call Judy Chick at 348-5035 or cell 323-9818.
