Bridges Academy Information and Registration Form Join us for the 2016 Summer Session Acting Immersion Ryan Siebrasse & Daniel Manning

We have been inspired by the artistic growth of the thespians during the school year and in response would like to offer a concentrated 2-week Acting Immersion Course! During the class we will expand the students’ awareness of method acting, along with classes through which they will enhance their vocal and physical awareness and communication techniques. The curriculum is founded in the work of Constantin Stanislavski, the progenitor of modern acting, as exhibited by the likes of James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Depp, Mark Ruffalo, etc. This acting theory is the source of the Stella Adler Technique as well as the Meisner and Strasberg Acting Methods. This course is an excellent supplement to the plays we produce during the semesters within the school year and will surely expand your abilities and experiences within our full-length productions. If you’re also considering pursuing acting beyond high school, either at the collegiate or professional level, this course is highly recommended. The creative efforts of the participants will culminate in a live-performance showcase event featuring each students’ growth expressed through the application of the techniques via personally selected and thoroughly prepared acting scenes.

To complement the lesson material, we'll be using a dissection kit with 9 diverse animals to get a hands-on look at the kinds of animals we'll be discussing. Not content with merely seeing pictures and videos of living animals or preserved organisms, we will also be taking trips to the Santa Monica mountains/Los Angeles Zoo or Leo Carrillo State Park/the Aquarium of the Pacific in order to observe animals in their natural or hospitable habitat. This course will be offered twice (sign-ups permitting) and will cover different material during both sessions. The first session will be a general approach to animal science while the second session will focus more heavily on aquatic life. Please note that this class is not for the faint of heart as dissection is integral to the full class experience.

Bridges Academy Information and Registration Form Join us for the 2016 Summer Session Sci-Fi and Fantasy Cinema Club Tyler Peck

If you love Science Fiction and Fantasy films, than this summer session will be super fun! From “E.T.” to “Avatar,” we will be exploring how different generations have looked at the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre. The days will be structured like a compare and contrast style screening series workshop. This means that we will watch 2 movies each day, which will be based around a particular theme (ex. time travel, alien invasion, etc.) and then discuss, critique and analyze the pros and cons of each. How were they distinctly similar and/or different from each other relative to the time in which they were conceived? One movie per day will thus focus on how contemporary cinema is presenting Sci-Fi and Fantasy in film, and the other will instead look at how past generations have addressed those same genres. Since Sci-Fi and Fantasy were such dominant film genres in the 1980’s, we will be primarily focusing on that era as our “past generation;” where as our “contemporary cinema” will be anything after the year 2000, as it was a major turning point in both social and technological advancements. Here are just a few examples of the kinds of films we may watch: “The Lord of the Rings,” “Ex Machina,” “Her,” “The Fifth Element,” “The Neverending Story,” “Willow,” “12 Monkeys” and “Terminator.” Oh, and did I forget to mention that I will be providing both popcorn and movie candy everyday for your moviegoing enjoyment?! {***For the few films that we may watch that are rated R, parents will be emailed ahead of time to confirm that the film is acceptable for their child to watch.***}

Dates: June 6th-10th or June 13th-17th (1 week session offered twice) Days: Monday- Friday Hours: 9:00 am-2:30 pm Grades: 7th Grade and Up Tuition: $500.00 per week Lunch: Bring lunch from home (no off-campus). Snacks: Popcorn and movie candy provided at no cost Minimum: 4 Students

If you answered yes to any of these questions (out loud or not out loud) then this is the course for you! We will take a look at the history of stand up comedy, we will learn from the greatest performers and storytellers of all time, and use their genius to help develop ours. If you want to just write and not perform that is okay too, although I highly encourage sharing your story. We all have a story to tell, and we will learn to navigate the fine line that exists between drama and comedy. Understanding the formula and foundation of comedy will help build our material into the funny we desire. We’ll also be visited by current stand up comedians to come share their material and have a Q&A about how they come up with such hilarity. This class will include a field trip to a world famous stand up comedy venue with an insider tour and a chance to grace the stage where your favorite stand up comedians have performed! We will learn, we will laugh, and we will develop our own hilarious material to bring down the house. I 100% guarantee this summer course will have the most laughs.
