Camp to the Future II Camp to the Future II is a federally-funded program designed to assist Kindergarten - 7th grade students in Title I schools improve their reading and math skills to attain proficiency. Students demonstrating the greatest academic need will receive first priority for 1,800 seats available. Parents/Guardians will be able to enroll eligible students through registration materials mailed to students’ homes. This program is organized by the Improvement and Innovation Department. ESL Summer Program The English as a Second Language (ESL) summer school program is federally-funded through Title III. It is designed for ESL students in grades 6-12. Seats are first assigned to students in the Newcomer Program, and any additional seats will be reserved for ESL students who have been referred by their teachers as having academic need. These seats will be assigned on a first come - first serve basis. The focus of this course will be on the four domains of language development: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Instruction will be guided by the English Language Development Standards, as well as the Common core. Jefferson Step-Up The Step-Up program is designed to build skills in preparation for the transition from 8th grade to 9th grade. Students are required to attend Step-Up by referral from their middle schools due to a need for additional instruction in math, reading and writing in an effort to ensure students are ready for high school. Students must be referred by their middle school administration. Attendance is mandatory. High School Credit Recovery Credit Recovery is a tuition-based program designed to assist high school students in recovering credits from a previously failed course. Courses are taught by Illinois-certified teachers who are highly qualified in the subject area. Course offerings are limited to those required for graduation. Students may enroll in one or two courses during the summer program. Attendance is mandatory. Grade Level: 9th - 12th Dates: June 16 - July 18, 2014, Monday through Friday, closed for holiday July 3rd & 4th Times: 7:45 am - 12:15 pm Location: Jefferson High School District Transportation: NO Registration Dates: May 5 - June 10, 2014 at Roosevelt Community Education Center, 978 Haskell Ave. Registration Times: Mon/Wed: 8:00 am -10:00 am. Drivers Education Rockford Public Schools will offer Summer Drivers Education for high school age appropriate students at Roosevelt High School. Students interested in attending should speak with their High School Counselor about the application process. Honors Algebra Summer Honors Algebra 1 is designed for students who demonstrate the ability to excel in math and who have not yet taken Algebra 1 in 8th grade. This is an opportunity for those students to be on track to take Advanced Placement Math courses prior to graduation. The course meets for a total of 120 hours during the summer and follows the same curriculum students receive in a year-long class in high school. Upon successful completion, the student will receive 2 high school credits toward graduation. The student will then be registered for Geometry in the fall of Freshmen year with the end goal of AP Calculus during senior year.
