Dear Residents: Summer is a very special and exciting season, one filled with promise, renewal, and growth. For children, the summer is all about having fun and trying new things, with a little relaxation added in for good measure! For parents, summer is all about safety, stimulation, and of course, fun! For years, the Hewlett-Woodmere Playschool has served as an integral part of the summer experience for the children of our community. The Playschool enables children to expand their horizons, make new friends, and further develop their character and confidence. The Playschool’s scheduled activities and special events are carefully planned to ensure that they are age appropriate, stimulating, and enjoyable for children of all ages. Playschool campers truly enjoy the benefit of both indoor and outdoor activities. Some of the activities your child will enjoy include: • • •

Indoor: art, physical education, science, computers, swimming, and yoga Outdoor field activities: soccer, tennis, kickball, football, and sprinkler time Special events: talent shows, contests, dress-up days, and the Playschool Olympics

In addition to a full schedule of fun and rewarding activities, the success of the Hewlett Woodmere Playschool is due largely to the dedicated members of our supervisory staff. We are truly fortunate to have an outstanding summer staff comprised of highly-energetic teachers with years of experience in recreation. The teachers are ably assisted by responsible and enthusiastic high school and/or college students who serve as role models for the campers. Last summer was my first as the administrator in charge of the Hewlett-Woodmere Playschool, and I was amazed and inspired each and every day as I watched a devoted staff work tirelessly to put smiles on the faces of young people. I am truly lucky to work with such caring and wonderful people who have committed themselves to providing safe, healthy, educational experiences to children. Words cannot describe how uplifting it is to see children with smiling happy faces, and I recognize how fortunate I am to have the Playschool bring that to me on a daily basis. For this reason, I look forward to the 2014 Summer Playschool and the rewarding experiences it will bring! I invite you to review the Playschool information included in this brochure. Please do not hesitate to contact the office of Community Education and Services at (516) 792-4863 if you have any questions or would like additional information about our program. On behalf of the Hewlett-Woodmere Department of Community Education and Services and the Summer Playschool staff, I extend warm regards to our community residents for a healthy, safe, and rewarding summer. Sincerely yours,

Tom Naglieri Coordinator of Summer Programs 3

SUMMER PLAYSCHOOL PROGRAMS The Summer Playschool is a well-rounded recreation experience for district children entering Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade in September 2014.
