Spring/Summer 2016 County Awards Program The County Awards Program will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the ALFA Building in Wedowee. The contests that will be included are: Wood U Build It, Freestyle Showcase, Alabama Quilters, Dairy Poster Contest, Baked Food Exhibit, Speak Up Alabama, Block Rock, and Project Green Thumb. Wood U Build It, Alabama Quilters, Dairy Poster, & T-Shirt Design 1st place Local Club winners and Freestyle Showcase, Speak Up Alabama, Baked Food Contest, & Project Green Thumb 1st and 2nd Place Local Club Winners are invited to the County Contest. The registration deadline for Speak Up Alabama, Chef 4-H and $15 Challenge is Friday, April 8th by 4:00 pm. Entries for Baked Foods Exhibit, Block Rock, Project Green Thumb, Dairy Poster, and Interior Design are due to the Extension Office by Friday, April 8th at 4:00 pm. Upcoming Summer Events... 

Cheaha-Speedway Regional Congress will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Munford High School, Munford. The competition is open to 1st and 2nd place county contest winners. Information will be mailed to those 4-H’ers eligible in May.



4-H Summer Camp will be Wednesday, June 8-Friday, June 10 at the 4-H Center in Columbiana. 4-H’ers that have registered for camp must have paperwork in to the Extension Office by Friday, March 4.



Clover Classroom will be held during the month of July in Clay County. Classes include 4-Hi/CSI, GPS, Raptors & Reptiles/Skins & Skulls, Junior Master Gardener, & Cooking. Information will be available in April/May regarding registration.



State Competitive Events Day will be held on Thursday, July 28 at the 4-H Center in Columbiana, AL. First Place Senior 4-H’ers (age 14-18) are eligible for this event. Information will be mailed to those eligible in May.



Chick Chain home visits are tentatively scheduled for July and first part of August. Ms. Tiffany or Mrs. Rachel will contact participants about a date and time.

Chef 4-H 1. Your primary ingredient must be a grain, a vegetable, fruit, milk, or meat. The meat group

also includes beans, eggs, and nuts. 2. The time limit is 3-5 minutes. 3. Provide information about your dish. That should include protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral, fat, and cholesterol. 4. Base your information on what is needed for someone eating 2,000 calories per day. 5. Bring all your supplies and equipment. That includes plastics spoon, fork, knife; bowls, blenders; etc. 6. Must have a poster of the recipe and copies of the recipe for the judges. 7. Everyone competes as an individual in the county contest. NO team demonstrations allowed. 8. Please arrive 15 minutes early to set up.

$15 Challenge 1. Don’t spend over $15 on an outfit that covers the entire body. That means a top and bottom or one piece like a dress. 2. Receipts are required, although they can be handwritten from garage sales. 3. Accessories and shoes are not part of the $15. 4. Outfits must come from garage sales, consignment stores, thrift stores, Goodwill or Salvation Army-type stores. An end-of-season sale might be a good place to find a bargain. 5. 4-Hers must complete a $15 Challenge Report and bring it to the event. Bring three copies. 6. Prepare to model your outfit for the judges.

Interior Design 1.

Compete by yourself. Junior 4-H’ers (9-13 years old) will design a room of your choice. Senior 4-H’ers (14-18 years old) will design a room of your choice.

Your design board is a tool to display the color scheme and furniture arrangement. Please use a three panel foam display board that is 36”x48”. These are available at most craft and school supply stores as well as most large chain stores.

Flooring, Wall Treatment, Trim, and Ceilings. Use swatches of carpet, flooring samples, paint samples, or sample wall treatments (free at most building supply stores). Mount these to your board to show what type of floor and wall treatments you will use. YOU MUST HAVE 1 EXAMPLE OF EACH: FLOOR AND WALLS. You may have more (ex. Ceilings or two different wall treatments in one room).

Fabrics: Include two swatches of fabric that will be used in the room. (ex. pillows, curtains, chairs, etc). Fabric samples should reflect your color scheme and coordinate with your paint color.

Labels: Label board (ex. bedroom) and any swatches of fabric, paint or floor samples for their use (ex. pillows, curtains, etc.).

6. Furniture arrangement: Use the room template and furniture template to organize the room layout. The furniture layout will be judged on creativity, proper use of space and lighting, neatness, and accuracy of the scaled drawing. 7.

You have a $7,000.00 budget to complete your bedroom or office/study. Please use the example budget form to show how you used your money.
