COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT
Introduction
BERLIN, BERLIN 2016 IIT Summer Study Abroad Course Title: Berlin/Berlin | Tactical Strategies for Living Berlin has a culture and contemporary scene rooted in self-organized and cooperative planning, building, living, and working. The changed landscape during the twentieth century promoted this dynamic metropolis. The vast array of experimentation spanning three major territorial shifts is critical to these radical transformations. Prewar, Postwar, and unification have generated a collage of new visions, urban forms and prototypes for living.

Introduction cont.
The coursework looks to examine Berlin over the years to reimagine public content and development. The vast array of urban interventions over a century makes Berlin the ideal location for study. The research of specific sites will uncover a complex urban temporal relationship. A new prototype for housing allowing for the flexibility of social, commercial and environmental requirements of the neighborhood will develop new models of urbanity, integration, accessibility and atmosphere. The reframing and rethinking of urban techniques and housing prototypes will be established through a comprehensive process integrating research, computational modeling and design. In comparison to Berlin, these new urban conditions and cultural housing blocks will be projected onto Chicago to further the research and debate rethinking metropolis. IIT | Summer 2016
