ENG—English
Course descriptions, prerequisites, corequisites >>>> www.mccc.edu/courses/ENG
Note: Initial selection of an English composition course is determined by a placement test. Call the Liberal Arts Division or the Academic Testing Center for details. English courses are sequential. Therefore, a student must satisfy the composition requirement — with a minimum grade of C in ENG102 — before taking literature (200 level) courses. Applicability of credits in courses below the 100 level toward degree requirements is limited. Note: The English Department offers sections of English Composition I and II that are specifically designated for nonnative speakers of the English language. For more information, contact Fran Davidson, (609) 570-3852. ENG101/102 TVC: Students who register for TVC (distance learning) classes of ENG101 or ENG102 are required to write two essays, one at the beginning of the semester and one at the end, in the Academic Testing Center on the West Windsor campus. Further information about this requirement can be obtained by calling (609) 570-3308.

Note: Initial selection of a mathematics course is determined by the results of a placement test. Contact the Liberal Arts Division or the Academic Testing Center for details. Applicability of credits in courses below the 100 level is limited. Students who have completed math courses at another college must present transcripts. Mathematics Placement: Students not required to take pre-college review mathematics should take the Mathematics Course Placement Test to determine the appropriate level of math. A pretest and authorization form may be obtained at the Liberal Arts Division office (LA 162) or from a counselor. The placement test is given in the Academic Testing Center, and the results are discussed and reviewed with a member of the mathematics faculty.

With starting salaries now above $45,000 and a New Jersey shortfall of RNs, the nursing profession offers excellent career opportunities for qualified students. Be sure to ask about scholarship opportunities. The MCCC Nursing program culminates in the A.S. degree and candidacy for licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Instruction combines clinical experience in area hospitals with on-campus lectures and lab classes. Full-time, part-time, and online hybrid options are available in either day or evening/weekend programs. Licensed practical nurses are eligible for advanced standing. For application materials and program information, contact the Admissions office at (609) 5703795 or e-mail
[email protected]. The college also conducts two other nursing programs, one in collaboration with Capital Health System (CHS) and the other in conjunction with St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC). These programs culminate in a nursing diploma awarded by the hospital and the A.S. degree conferred by the college. For information about these cooperative programs, contact the college’s Admissions Office or the director of the respective nursing program as follows: CHS 394-4050 or SFMC 599-5190.

Placement Testing A placement test measuring English and mathematics skills is a requirement in the MCCC admissions process to determine student eligibility for certain courses and programs. The exam does not affect admission to the college. Completed in approximately two and a half hours, the test includes a timed essay followed by untimed multiple choice questions. Prospective students are encouraged to thoroughly review the sample essays and practice questions found in the placement testing section of the MCCC website.
Exemptions from Testing
• 540 on the SAT critical reading exempts students from the English testing; • 530 on the SAT mathematics exempts students from the basic math testing, but qualifies students for college-level math placement testing; • 21 on Math ACT and 21 on English ACT exempts students from the English and basic math testing and qualifies students for the college-level math placement testing; • A degree from an accredited U.S. college or university (transcript required); • Evidence (college transcript) of college-level English or mathematics courses.
All documentation of scores and transcripts should be submitted to the Enrollment Services Office upon application to the college. If English is not your first language, call 609-570-3438 to arrange for the English as a Second Language placement test.
Arrangements for Testing
After completing a college admissions application and obtaining a MCCC student I.D. number, students may arrange to take the placement test by contacting the preferred testing location: the Academic Testing Center at the West Windsor Campus (609-570-3295 or e-mail

Any monies paid by the student (tuition and fees) for a course dropped during this period will be refunded. Once a semester begins, students must drop any class prior to the deadline specified below in order to be eligible for a refund for that class.
