3 QUESTIONS TO CHRISTELLE ANYA, ADF & PCD DIRECTOR PARIS AND NEW-YORK
1. Given the success of the preceding editions, ADF & PCD have now become a genuine meeting point for professionals in the sector. What has made this trade fair an event that cannot be missed ? The success of the trade fair hinges on the fact that visitors and suppliers come, right at the beginnning of the year, to take stock of projects and developments underway, strengthen relations, draw on technical advances and innovations/new products, and also to « source », « benchmark », keep up to date with technological developments and « network ». The lectures are eagerly awaited. Thanks to the short presentations, brands come to gain a deeper knowledge of a given subject or technology that they are particularly interested in. It is thus an opportunity for compânies to present their disruptive innovations and/or new products. Some of the highlights: The ADF & PCD Awards, which reward intelligence, skills, creativity, technologies and know-how, collaboration with suppliers and « clever features » introduced to meet the needs of the various briefs.
Innovation isn’t at the heart of the trade faire. It is its very essence
ADF & PCD PRESS RELEASE 2O17
Innovation is not at the heart of the trade fair, it is its very essence together with sustainable development. Without innovation, there can be no new products, services or processes. It elicits passion and makes it possible to break away from patterns of consumption that are sometimes age-old. It provides a futuristic look. This is what ADF & PCD seek to be : a platform, as our « tagline » indicates, « The Packaging Innovation Hub » where innovations/new products are up for discovery. Of course, not all companies have innovations to present ; it is exchanges, meetings with people, industries and fields of application from all horizons that provide for the emerging of ideas that lead to innovation.
2. This edition will ostensibly confirm its place as a leading event that brings together all the players in the sector. What will be the highlights of this new 2017 edition ? Don’t miss : - The new series of lectures on metal packagings – MCB – on the afternoon of the second day. - Very interesting pathways for innovation from the standpoint of Millenials as a result of the inter-schoolenterprise project : ESEPAC / Ecole du Parfum / Chanel which will give industry and brands futuristic ideas and perspectives
Christelle ANYA, ADF & PCD Director Paris and New-York
- Meeting over 100 new exhibitors - The 2 Awards Ceremonies: The ADF ceremony will be chaired by Gilles Baudin, Head of Packaging expertise, L’OREAL – CFA President who succeeded Michel Fontaine and the PCD ceremony, where the keynote address will be given by Sylvie Bénard, Director for the Environment, LVMH - MOËT HENNESSY LOUIS VUITTON. STAR ADF LECTURES ARE ORGANIZED INTO 7 SESSIONS
This session will encompass metal packaging. Indeed, as in other sectors, metal can and aluminum bottle industries are experiencing tremendous change: consumer expectations are posing big challenges for suppliers. To ensure long-term success, companies have to provide their target markets with ever changing and innovative designs and offerings.
HOW CAN PHARMA INHALER NOZZLES CREATE BENEFITS FOR COSMETIC APPLICATIONS? By Anne Mechteld Osman, Account Manager, Medspray, The Netherlands and Wilbur de Kruijf, inhalation device expert, Medspray, The Netherlands Medspray has been developing nozzles for pharmaceutical inhalers, based on nanotechnology, since 2002 to provide for drug delivery to the lungs. The Medspray devices have been in clinical trials since 2006. The first Medspray inhaler, delivering antibiotics for Cystic Fibrosis, was presented earlier this year and will be on the market in 2019. Since the inhaler devices have entered the public domain, these nozzles also have caught the attention of the cosmetics industry, as the requirements of a spray for the pharmaceutical industry also apply to the cosmetics industry: long actuation time (multiple seconds), narrow particle size distribution, tuneable spray cone and propellant free operation. Discover the technologies shared by these 2 sectors !
TURNING THE DIP TUBE ON ITS HEAD By Michael W. Pritchard, MBE, CEO, Pritchard Spray Technology ltd, UK Revolutionary innovation in the aerosol and dispensing industry is rare. And yet, when it comes to satisfying customer needs, there are still three fundamental problems yet to be solved. How to use products in all orientations, remove 100% of the product and remove VOC’s as propellants. Spray dip tubes are truly revolutionary. They solve all three problems for all three dispenser types. This conference will take you through the physics of this groundbreaking technology showing you, with practical examples, how and why it works, the many consumer, environmental and manufacturing benefits and advantages the technology offers and how you could consider using the technology in your products. FRAGRANCE, WHAT’S NEXT ? FRAGRANCE AND PERFUME SUBLIMATION Chair : Pascale Marciniak-Davoult, Director Packaging Research and Innovation, CHANEL
By way of introduction to this session, students at ESEPAC (Ecole Supérieure de Packaging) and ESP (Ecole Supérieure de Parfum) will present the fruit of their joint work to answer the Chanel brief, which asked the following questions: - PERFUME : LUXURY AND MODERNITY ( in terms of use ) - TESTING / SAMPLING ( consumer experience )
Speakers will then describe consumer experiences : the advent of new consumers who put on perfume several times during the day, examples of the broad trend towards lifestyles on the move and changing patterns of consumption. Consumers are looking for small volumes, with sturdy packaging compatible with all formulations, even the most sensitive. They want recyclable materials, which comply nonethless with luxury standards.
This session will focus on developments in secondary packaging and digital tools, or how to anticipate customer needs with connected, customized packaging.
DON’T MISS THE FOLLOWING LECTURES : DIGITALIZATION: HOW TO BUILD THE FUTURE OF PACKAGING FOR LUXURY BRANDS By Anne-Laure Bulliffon, Packaging Innovation Leader at Profil’Pack Inc. (Canada) and Alpes Packaging (France) ANTICIPATE CUSTOMERS’ NEEDS WITH CONNECTED AND CUSTOMIZED PACKAGING
NEW BUYERS AND MASS PERSONALIZATION DRIVE FURTHER AUTOMATION By Marc Schillemans, VP & GM of Landa Digital Printing EMEA, Israel and Jean Baptiste Bardinet, Regional business Manager, France. ‘‘We are faced with « new » buyers who want products that are specific to their needs. They want them quickly and have less brand loyalty. Everything has become on-demand : communication, gaming and entertainment. Everything has become more personalized : knowledge, news and advertising. Everything is becoming greener, with 60% of consumers who want to buy from environmentally responsible companies. The world of packaging is changing accordingly. Product proliferation, on-demand production and mass customization are key differentiators. Brand owners and the packaging industry are already responding to these unique and irrevocable trends and opportunities. Digital printing is a critical part in creating a fully automated end-to-end solution. ‘‘

NECESSITY FOR CHILD RESISTANT PACKAGING IN COSMETIC PRODUCTS – REQUIREMENTS, TUBES SOLUTIONS AND MARKETED CASE STUDY By Philippe Kern, Head of Material Science & Development, Neopac Mandatory in certain pharmaceutical applications for many years, child resistant packaging (CRP) is becoming increasingly important and may even become a necessity in certain cosmetic applications. For cosmetic products, an example requiring CRP as a result of regulatory requirements and/or risk assessments is highly concentrated solutions involving mixing steps performed by the end consumer himself, as such solutions could be toxicologically dangerous if children gain accidental access.

In’ Pressive, an outstanding innovation that makes it possible to sculpt the inner form as freely as the outer form, is the fruit of total accord between the creation of agence centdegrés and the various skills within the Pochet Group (glass - plastic - metal).
Purity Pump: The Perfect Partner for Your Natural and Pure Formulation
Why has Lumson developed a new pump?
BOMO TRENDLINE (PCD) Presents AIRLESSIO, the new Airless distributor for precious, sensitive formulations like natural skin creams, body balms, serums and lotions.
LIHAOPACK (PCD) 3D Vivid Packaging Box Our new 3D packaging box, combines patent printing technology with packaging, to make it more vivid to show clients’ products. No matter it is cosmetics product, food, toy, etc, people can easily have a direct impression on products’ function. It can have 5 effects, including 3D depth, animation, flip, zoom and morph effects. By applying these effects on packaging box, clients can easily catch the product features, which leads traditional printing to a new era.
E-connect, the digital experience of the Pochet Group by Priminter : E-connect is a collection of connected promotional objects and accessories; each component becomes a vector of communication thanks to an NFC chip discretely incorporated in the product
Nowadays, innovative and improved formulations require specific ingredients to retain high stability. As a result, the research of solutions to preserve these sensitive cosmetic components such as Vitamin C and retinol from deterioration has become a priority for most formulators. Based on these needs, Lumson, with 40 years of experience as a pumps manufacturer, has designed and developed a new pump: Purity is the name we chose for describing its market positioning. This new pump is in line with the demands of the market: it guarantees a high compatibility level with ingredients due to a metal-free path, perfect distribution of a wide range of viscosities (even very viscous formulae), and has proven its high stability in aging tests. Three dosages are now available in 150mcl, 230 mcl, and 250 mcl, allowing precise application on the skin (with ±10% tolerance).

Stylo – the new way of writing skincare
SEUFERT (PCD)
Will be displaying its specialized technologies and decorative finishings, which can enrich a wide range of luxury products, gifts and displays for the cosmetics sector.
Rewrite your products’ success story now. With the two brand new tube applicators, «Stylo Pipette» and «Stylo Liner», insure precise or meticulous applications for your liquid or cream products on the skin.
Seufert develops and makes transparent folding boxes, cases and sleeves in PET, PP or PVC. In keeping with its motto « Packed with inspiration », Seufert’s transparent packaging solutions feature creative developments and original ideas. The company manages the entire packaging manufacturing process, from the production of PET sheets, through to the R&D department, offset or silk screen printing and subsequent processing. In order to be environmentally friendly, Seufert always seeks to reuse sheet scrap in its production of PET film. Seufert uses only low-migration inks in its BRC/IoP standard certified production, and offers its services to many industrial sectors like cosmetics, confectionery, food and promotional industries.
Both applicators are protected with a cone-shaped protection cap. In addition, thanks to the attractive and pleasant-to-touch on/off rotating ring with arrow pictogram, the content stays where it belongs – on the skin or in the tube. Tin Caps : customized branding on the cap
IDSCENT (PCD)
Tin Caps - that’s the name of the new tube closures. Branding no longer has to stay on the tube body; put your customized branding on the closure too.
Has developed a new “Scentest” technology which consists in giving paper a lasting scent by incorporating the perfume directly into the fibers. This technology gives users a unique, everlasting scent experience. The communication medium thus becomes multisensory, fostering lasting memories of the message conveyed.
Design your cap with 6-colour offset printing, an opaque or metallic finish (varnished), different varnishes and embossing/debossing. Further emphasize your product with a high-end heavy or lightweight cap. Tin Caps are available in diameters of 25, 30, 35 and 40 mm in three tube qualities: Polyfoil®, COEX and PE. Polywood tube
NEOPAC (PCD)
As the natural, bio-based product market is growing, so does the demand for natural packaging solutions that also stand out. To fulfill such increasing demand, Tu-Plast has created the Polywood tube. Using natural wooden content in flexible polyethylene tubes is an innovative concept developed by Tu-Plast. If you touch the Polywood tube, you can really feel and smell the wood. With more than 25% of natural wood content, the Polywood material is a unique bio-based tube. The sleeve and head of the tube can be matched to any colour. Whilst, due to its structure, hot foil stamping, silk screen printing and lacquering are not recommended, decoration in offset printing brings great results.
Packaging transparent avec effet de glamour en relief The German manufacturer of transparent packaging, Seufert, adds a new decoration option to its packaging solutions. The glamorous relief effect combines hot stamping with a relief effect without using embossing techniques. A special varnish is first printed on a PET film using silkscreen printing. A metallized film is then applied on the printed varnish. The result is very precise positioning of the relief film, as it only adheres to the slightly raised varnish. Reusable plastic plates are used instead of traditional embossing plates.
The glamorous relief effect provides for a very noble finishing from a tactile and visual stance, guaranteeing a highly attractive promotional packaging. « Brand manufacturers want advantageously to display their top-of-the-range products at the POS » says Thomas Pfaff, managing director, who adds : « more often than not, simple packaging is not sufficient to incite the customer to look at a product, examine it or even buy it. That is the time when our transparent packaging, with very high quality finishings, can make a difference. »

Spin’n’dose™: for correct dosing of viscous contents Airless and pump tubes form a fixed component of our tube range and are established in trade as well as among consumers. It is difficult to dose a larger amount in one go of any cream or gel that is highly viscous or on prescription. This is where our new Spin’n’dose™ can be used: the innovative dispensing wheel doses 0.5 or 1 g from the tube when turned 180°. And there is no pump.
