for Busy Moms “Many people think that “mom style” is an oxymoron. What kind of “style” works for a daily life filled with the nonstop, hands-on work of caring for children—let alone the endless laundry, cooking, and cleaning of many in a busy mom’s schedule?” The Essential Stay-at-Home Mom Manual: How to Have a Wondrous Life Amidst Kids and Chaos
Guiding principles for pieces that work in a busy mom’s wardrobe are:
• Washable • Practical • Comfortable
for the Busy Mom A PAIR OF GREAT FITTING JEANS Start with a pair of good fitting jeans (or three).
If you can only have one pair, go for a dark wash in a straight leg style. That is the most versatile and the most universally flattering. I’d say you should definitely have a pair of skinny jeans in your wardrobe too.
for the Busy Mom A PAIR OF GREAT FITTING JEANS RULES •
They need to be comfortable. Bend, squat, sit. Be sure you can move around in them comfortably. Make sure the waist fits without causing the dreaded muffin top. Look at the rear view… pocket placement is key. If they are too high, they look like mom jeans, if they are too close together or too far apart, they can add unwanted pounds. Make sure they flatter your tushy.
for the Busy Mom LAYERING TEE’S AND TANK TOPS Let’s face it fashion tops nowadays aren't always very modest, but we can help that with simple layering.
Layered tank tops work on so many levels. They create modest clothing with style, color, and texture. You can make a short shirt longer, hide bra straps, help cover cleavage, etc. Before throwing on any top consider adding a layer underneath. You can’t have too many of these in all colors!
for the Busy Mom SIMPLE WHITE COLLARED SHIRT This piece is very versatile. You can dress it up or down. However you pair it, the crisp white collar always looks intentionally put together. Any length sleeve will work as long as you feel great in the shirt… not too tight or too loose.
for the Busy Mom CARDIGANS A classic button-front sweater is a wardrobe workhorse! It is so easy to wear and will effortlessly polish
your style and add a touch of modesty too. Perfect for mixing and matching, cardigans are a versatile and season-less wardrobe staple. Keep it weekend casual by wearing with jeans and a T-shirt, and work it 9 to 5 with wide-leg trousers or a pencil skirt. Combine them with scarves and statement necklaces. Throw them over a dress or printed blouse. The possibilities are endless!
for the Busy Mom LEGGINGS Let’s face it, moms need freedom of movement. We are always chasing children, picking up the house, getting in and out of the car, and running errands. Leggings wear well under airy tops, sweaters, and dresses making them a fabulous allweather option and helping you stretch your wardrobe budget. They also hide white un-tan legs or, gasp!, unshaven legs, even cellulite.
for the Busy Mom LEGGING RULES •
ALWAYS cover your ahhem! Most leggings create an awful camel toe. Not flattering. Cover it with a long top.
Inspect the opaqueness. When trying on leggings, wear your brightest pair of undies and bend over. Can you see through? Modesty!
Know your body. Do the leggings make your thighs or stomach look bulgy or lumpy? Try a different style or wear them with a top that skims over those areas.
Layer, layer, layer. The most fabulous legging get-ups layer a long shirt or dress with a jacket or sweater, and then add a statement scarf or necklace.
for the Busy Mom KNEE HIGH BOOTS Ankle boots are trendy, but kneehigh boots are a must have in every wardrobe. If you can only have one pair, make sure to get a color that will go with almost everything in your wardrobe. A good rule of thumb is to match your hair. Boots are easy to slip on and dress up an outfit faster than flipflops and flats. Depending on your activity level with kids you can decide what size heel works for you.
for the Busy Mom MAXI SKIRT For starters, donning a maxi gives you an easy, chic and fashionable look. What can possibly be kinder to varicose veins, lumpy knees, mummy tummies and chubby thighs (mine, not my babes') than a crazylong skirt? Is there a better skirt to wear to a playground? No. Is there an easier way to make your tired, frazzled person look polished while staying comfortable? Not likely. Maxis are available in a wide variety of colors, styles, and prints that you can relax and rest assured you will find a perfect one for whichever occasion you want.
for the Busy Mom MAXI SKIRT RULES • Maxi skirts work best with simple fitted tops. You’ve got to balance the volume of the bottom with a top that comes close to the body otherwise you’ll look like a big sheet. Tents aren’t chic.
for the Busy Mom A GREAT BIG BAG No really… go big or go home. You’re a Mom so you know all the ridiculous things you need with you in order to survive with kids. Make sure it is big enough to hold your essentials and that you can carry it comfortably on your shoulder or across your body. And maybe go for a fun color. A big handbag is something I cannot go without. It can be chic and plain or trendy with studs or tassels. Just make sure it suits your lifestyle and personality.
for the Busy Mom ACCESSORIES Accessories are a secret weapon, that when worn correctly, allow anyone to look like they have it together. Think: • • • • • • • •

“Being fashionable is probably the last requirement on the mommy clothing list – but it shouldn’t be. Because even though raising a child is infinitely more important, fashion matters more than you think. It affects how a woman feels about herself which, in the end, affects how she acts toward others, especially those she loves.” The Mommy Stylist Saving Mom’s from frumpiness one outfit at a time.
PLEASE THE LORD
Strive to please the Lord with what you wear. I Corinthians 10:31 says, "Whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God." Don’t dress up for the sake of being perceived as trendy 1 Thessalonians 2:4 says, "Not as pleasing men, but God."
BRING HONOR TO THE LORD
Dress in taste and style that will bring honor to the Lord. As a Christian person, you represent Christ. II Corinthians 5:20 says that "...we are ambassadors for Christ."
DON’T DIM THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD
Avoid clothing that focuses attention on self and dims the beauty of the Lord as seen through you. Galatians 2:20 says that Christ lives in you. Can people see past what you are wearing to the One Who is inside of you?
YOU ARE THE DAUGHTER OF A KING
Clothing should be attractive, not shabby or drab. Proverbs 31:22 indicates that if you are a Christian woman, you are a daughter of the King. Don't spend a fortune on your wardrobe, but do make sure what you wear is clean and in good taste. You want people to take you and your Father seriously.
DO NOT BE CONFORED TO THIS WORLD
Don't lower your standards in dress to conform to the "style" of the moment. Fads come and go, but our appearance should not be based on what is popular in the world. Romans 12:2 says, "And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
DON’T BE VAIN
Flaunting clothing for pride or appearances sends the wrong message. When you meet someone, his or her focus should be on the person you are, not what you put on your person. Philippians 2:3 says, "Let nothing be done through strive or vain glory..."
DRESS FOR THE OCCASION
Select clothing that is nice and appropriate for the occasion, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel..." I Timothy 2:9-10.
DON’T CHEAPEN YOUR TESTIMONY
Dressing revealingly cheapens our testimony for God. "For we are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body..." I Corinthians 6:20.
DRESS WITH A PURPOSE; THE PURPOSE OF GLORIFYING CHRIST. DRESS WITH THE MISSION IN MIND: TO REACH PEOPLE WITH THE LOVE OF CHRIST. FEEL CONFIDENT IN YOUR POSTION AS AN AMBASSADOR, A PRINCESS IN A FORGEIN LAND. MAY YOUR WORDROBE SIMPLY HELP YOU SET THAT STAGE.
