B. Grading Policy The grading policy differs by instruction language, class size, and the level of the courses. Each professor has their own evaluation method, so the first point of reference should be the professor and course syllabus. However, below is a general summary of grading policies. Absolute evaluation (letter grade): Regular undergraduate course taught in English, KLI and IEE courses Graded on a curve (letter grade): UIC, regular undergraduate course taught in Korean Graduate courses: Consult with your professor directly. Q: Is there an Incomplete or Pass/Fail Option? A: There is no ‘Incomplete’ option. After the course withdrawal period, students must finish the course. There is no option for changing letter grading to Pass/Non-Pass (Fail) grading. However, there are predesignated P/NP graded courses – these courses have the reference code ‘ⓑ’.\

Sep 5 (Mon) - 7 (Wed) 9:00 - 17:00

There is a limit to the number of students that can be enrolled in all courses. Admission is granted on a point bidding process for Round 1 and waiting number basis for Round 2. The bidding is designed to achieve an equitable and efficient allocation of seats in classes when demand exceeds supply. Undergraduate students are given 72 miles and bid on maximum of 18 credits, and graduate students are given 60 miles and bid on maximum of 15 credits. As the mileage is for Round 1 only and does not carry over to Round 2, it is advised that students use all the allotted mileage during Round 1. When enrolling for courses, it may be helpful to register for courses with the fewest sections first to increase chances of acceptance. Students should also consider preparing a list of alternative courses in case some classes reach maximum capacity.

First Course Registration (ROUND 1) After logging on to Yonsei Portal System, the screen below will show up.

Updated on 07/27/2016 (MM/DD/YYYY)

In order to register for a course, students must click on the course code. Search for courses using the major search or using the keyword search feature. After clicking on the “Apply” button or ‘Course Code-Sec.-Lab’, input the amount of mileage.

A. Display of Credits Applied Display of Credits Applied is the Sum of Total Credits Applied (Sum of all credits within the maximum credits constraint). The followings are the cases when the application will not work: 1) The mileage point is not within the range between 1 and 36. 2) The mileage allocated to a course exceeds remaining mileage. 3) The sum of credits exceeds the limit of credits per semester. 4) The course hours overlap with a previously applied course. 5) The same course code has been already applied. 6) When the quota by each grade is '0' or when a student not in the major enrolls for a course that has a major student quota equal to the total quota. If you need to change your Major at Yonsei, submit supporting documents via email at [email protected].

B. Key Points for Exchange/Visiting Students 1. Each class must have a minimum bid of 1 mile to a maximum bid of 36 miles. 2. The maximum mileage for certain courses should be within the range between 12 and 36, and students are allowed to allocate maximum mileage of 36 for ONE course only. Please be advised that maximum mileage could be varied depending on the course. 3. Students cannot bid on certain courses when your grade quota is zero or there is a major restriction (non-major quota is zero). For current exchange/visiting students to update their grade in Yonsei University, please submit a proof of your grade to [email protected]. 4. Students can bid on different sections of the same course. 5. Students cannot bid on multiple classes that meet at the same time. The courses’ schedules cannot overlap. 6. Korean language courses (KLI****) and OIA courses (IEE****) are reserved for exchange / visiting students. We recommend students to place most your mileage for your major courses (courses with course code other than KLI or IEE) you wish take at Yonsei, and only place minimum mileage for KLI and IEE courses. 7. Courses that allow exchange/visiting students to register is marked with ○ in the Column of “Exchange Students” as shown in the next page. (If it is marked with ‘X’, it means you are blocked from registering). College of Business will demonstrate the Number of Seats in the same column instead of ○ or X. (If the course offered by College of Business is marked with ‘0’, it means there are no seats for exchange/visiting students).

Updated on 07/27/2016 (MM/DD/YYYY)

C. (Mileage System) Application Status The current application status is not the final course enrollment. The application data has to be confirmed according to mileage point and priority. If the allocated mileage is same, the priority is given according to the following conditions: 1) The mileage a student allocated for a course 2) Whether the student is subject to special education 3) Conformity to major designated by the department offering the course 4) Number of courses applied For practicality, up to 6 courses will be considered and exceptional courses (chapel, volunteer activities, junior seminar, RA leadership, RC self-disciplinary activities, etc.) are not counted. 5) Repeating course 6) (Credits earned in the previous semester)/(Maximum credits per semester)

D. Using the Wish List for Round 1 If you use the wish list feature to save courses, you do not need to search them again. So it is recommended to use Wish List for your convenience during the Wait List System period (including the Additional Enrollment Period and Add & Drop Period) when a quick decision is needed. Students can log in to the Yonsei Portal after 4pm on Wednesday, August 10. Once logged in, courses can be added to the wish list for quick access during the registration (or add/drop) period. If you click on “Wish List” button and put mileage, the course you chose will show up on your wish list. The wish list lasts until the end of Add & Drop Period.

Updated on 07/27/2016 (MM/DD/YYYY)

E. (Mileage System) How to Make Changes To cancel an application or delete a course, click the “Cancel” button in the application status. In case your mileage points are not sufficient for applying for a new course, you can change the mileage point in courses that you have previously applied by clicking the “Change” button. Log out after checking if there is any mileage left and reviewing courses that you have applied to all desired courses.

F. Registration Result A list of successful (enrolled) and unsuccessful (Waiting List) students will be shown according to a rank calculated based on a student's mileage and priority. In case when a student is unsuccessful, the waiting number will be shown so the student can decide if he/she wants to stay on the Waiting List or apply for other courses. During this period, you cannot register a course but can only add courses to the wish list. See the next page for example.

Updated on 07/27/2016 (MM/DD/YYYY)

Additional Course Registration (ROUND 2) Mileage is no longer used during this period, and students will be queued according to the waiting number depending on the placement results. (Waiting number will be determined based on the mileage that were allocated to the course.) For courses with vacancy, students may enroll in the course freely within the total student capacity. If a student is applying for courses that do not have a vacancy, waiting numbers will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. If there are students in the waiting list already, then the new waiting numbers will be given out after the last number in the list. If an enrolled student decides to drop the course, the student on the Waiting List will be enrolled into the course based on the order of the waiting number. (Waiting list will be renewed regularly.) During this period you can freely change the items in the enrolled (success) /wait list (fail) page. However, the sum of enrolled and wait listed cannot exceed the total credits allowed per semester. Therefore, in order to register for other courses students have to cancel some of the enrolled or wait-listed courses to secure mileage. It is not allowed for a student to apply into a course which s/he is already wait-listed because of the same course code. Note that, if he were to cancel and reapply, s/he will be put after the last person in the waiting list.

COURSE ADD AND DROP PERIOD During the Course Add & Drop Period, all the existing Waiting List will be initialized and new waiting lists will be created with new waiting numbers. (This gives a new opportunity for students who had low priority.) Procedures of the Waiting List system is the same as that of additional enrollment period. Students who are either, not on the registration list for the course, or are still on the Waiting List for a specific course, were unsuccessful. Therefore, they should check enrollment status and register for a new course before the Course Add & Drop Period is over. Since the students on the waiting list will be enrolled anytime when there is a vacancy due to changes in student capacity or withdrawal, students must withdraw themselves from the list if they do not wish to be enrolled. (No changes will be allowed once the Add & Drop Period is over.)

4. Post-Registration A. Petition Process Where a student is unable to register for their desired courses due to a lack of seats in the first two course registration periods, they may seek approval from the lecturing professor to enroll in the course. To do so, students should meet the professor in advance or on the first day of classes to get permission to enroll in the course using the form at the end of this document. (Form: Page 19) This form MUST be turned in to the program coordinator at the International Education Center (S302 Baekyang Hall) by 12:00 pm, September 7. After review, the program coordinator will manually add the course to the system. Please note that this form, however, does NOT guarantee a student’s course enrollment for the written course. * How to view your petition result: Yonsei Portal System > Academic Information System > Academic Management System Course Curriculum and Enrollment Folder > Course Schedule tab

B. Withdrawing From a Course The course withdrawal period is for three days (Oct 5 ~ 7). Students who did not drop a course during the Add/Drop period can withdraw from a course during this period without a record on the academic transcript. This process is done through the Yonsei Portal Academic Management System menu. This is the last chance to officially exit from a course.

C. YSCEC (Cyber Education Support System) YSCEC not only provides professor’s lecture notes and course supplements, but also some professors receive and check the essay and reports for evaluation. (YSCEC Manual: http://yscec.yonsei.ac.kr/en) Your user ID and password for YSCEC is the same as Portal site. If you are registered for a course with reference code 1, you should use this system for taking one hour lecture. If changes are made on your course list during the course add/drop period, your YSCEC course list will be updated in 1 ~ 2 business days. * Important: the course registration status should be checked through the Yonsei Portal site’s Academic Management System only, as YSCEC is not the official website for your course registration.

D. Updating Your Personal Information You should update your personal information, such as Korean local phone number, address, home university address, etc., on Yonsei Portal System once changes are made. (Login required) * Personal Information Location: Yonsei Portal System > Academic Information System > Academic Management System > Student Record > Information > Modification of Personal Data > Click Save
