STUDIO TENN WINTER-SPRING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Studio Tenn Theater Company offers a competitive internship program based in the tradition of theater apprenticeship. As part of the company’s continual efforts in education, Studio Tenn is proud to offer young thespians the opportunity to train and work alongside industry professionals with Broadway, NYC, Touring, Recording Industry, Production and local experience. Studio Tenn offers a unique and invaluable opportunity to hone and learn skills in theater that cannot be found anywhere else in Nashville. As a valued member of the Studio Tenn family, interns work closely with artistic, producing, and administrative staff to help build and create shows that garnish both local and national press alike. Through Studio Tenn’s unique and carefully crafted season, interns also have the opportunity to work with Broadway, Television, and Recording Artists alike which have previously included: Diana DeGarmo, Eden Espinosa, Matt Giraud, and Melinda Doolittle. The ultimate goal is for each intern to leave with a practical set of skills and knowledge that crosses departments and transcends the normal theater experience all the while developing relationships locally and with guest artists from across the nation

STUDIO TENN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS AND BENEFITS All candidates must be well-organized, proactive, detail-oriented, posses strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal), be able to prioritize and multi-task. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, & Outlook) is important. Must have a strong interest in the not-for-profit arts. Candidates must commit a minimum of 15-20 hours weekly during their internship and should demonstrate a strong interest in non-profit theater within the department of their choosing. Degree credit may be arranged for internships at Studio Tenn.

Candidates will meet all together during their tenure with the Artistic Director or Managing Director to learn more about how their efforts are impacting the company as well as to discuss their experiences and upcoming projects. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with our top Studio Tenn artists during the tenure.

POSITIONS ARTISIC INTERNSHIP Reports to: MATT LOGAN (Artistic Director) Description: Participants assist the artistic department with projects such as in-house readings, casting, production needs, and correspondence with artists. In addition, the artistic intern will be assigned design and literary projects specific to current productions as well as projects for future seasons.

PRODUCING INTERNSHIP Reports to: JAKE SPECK (Managing Director) Description: Interns will work along side the managing director with initiatives fundraising and overall company development. In addition, participants will learn and assists with Actors Equity Contracts, casting, and production budgets.

 

STUDIO TENN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM MARKETING + DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP Reports to: JIM JOHNSON (VP of Development+ MARKETING) Description: Participants assist the development and marketing of the company and season. Intern will assist in fundraising; grant research; and donor cultivation. In the office they will assist with database work, mailings, and phone calls. They will also help with the development of the ONE NIGHT ONLY Studio Tenn Gala and private donor party events. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are required for this internship.

COSTUME SHOP INTERNSHIP Reports to: ERIN PARKER (Production Manager + Costume Shop Manager) Description: Interns will work closely with costume shop manager and wardrobe heads to help construct, buy, and pull costumes for current productions, promotional trailers, and additional secondary projects. In addition, interns will learn how to create wardrobe plots and piece lists. Basic sewing skill preferred but not required as further training is offered for this internship.

PRODUCTION-STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP Reports to: BENJI KERN (Production Stage Manager) Description: Participants in this internship will work alongside both stage management and production teams to help prepare and run rehearsals as well as execute daily production needs at Studio Tenn. Must be able to lift 30lbs-40lbs. Strong skills in communication and Microsoft Suite preferred. This internship offers specialization in Stage Management, Scenic/Props Design, Sound Design, or Lighting Design pending each candidates interests and background.

 

STUDIO TENN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FAQs Q: WHAT IS THE WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT? A: The weekly time commitment is 15-20 hours a week. During training, we expect a 10 hours a week. The offices are open MON-FRI from 9am-6pm. Stage Management and Costume Shop Internships run based on rehearsal schedules, which is typically TUES-Sun. Special events such as Galas and opening nights may require more or times outside of normal office hours.

Q: What do I need for my internship should I be hired. A: You will need a laptop, cellphone, and eagerness to learn and work.

Q: DO YOU OFFER MONETARY COMPENSATION, HOUSING, and/or TRAVEL COMPENSATION? A: There is no current stipend or housing offered for our internships. Internships offer candidates a great opportunity to train and hone their skills in their respective disciplines through teaching in a professional and operational environment.
