SNMP Collector – module of Stream MultiScreen system SNMP Collector – add-on module for Stream MultiScreen, designated for integration of external devices with monitoring system. Module executes periodic collection of data from external devices using protocols SNMPv1 and SNMPv2. It is being utilized by sending requests SNMP-GET to pre-configured devices. Schema of integration of SNMP Collector into Stream MultiScreen is presented on Figure 1. SNMP Collector can work simultaneously with several WISI Chameleon. Number of channels is limited to broadband and CPU. Several SNMP Collector servers could be installed on one network. SNMP Collector is configured using client Stream MultiMonitor, which is part of monitoring system Stream Multiscreen.

Figure 1 Chart of integration of SNMP Collector into Stream MultiScreen

~3~

SNMP Collector is fully integrated into Stream MultiScreen. Alerts, generated by SNMP Collector are being logged into Stream MultiScreen database. Also, visual alarms could be displayed in a status panel of Stream MultiMonitor.

Licensing USB key StreamLabs Cryptokey (dongle) with license for SNMP Collector is required for operation of SNMP Collector. License is valid for entire module. There is no limit on the number of deployed WISI modules. If service cannot locate a dongle; or license is missing, then SNMP Collector operates with some restrictions - it stops detecting and logging errors during signal reception. The rest is functioning normally, meaning that server can be configured in MultiMonitor; objects for monitoring could be added, but all of them will be marked with «No License». It is possible to validate license in MultiMonitor. Select SNMP Collector in a project tree and check if field “License” is check-marked.

Setup of the system Stream MultiMonitor in editing mode is used for setup of the system. User’s guide for work with Stream MultiMonitor is outside of scope of this document and is part of user’s guide for Stream MultiScreen. Addition of SNMP Collector server In order to add SNMP Collector server to monitoring system, go to branch «SNMP Collector servers» and select «Search and add servers» from the right-slick context menu. «SNMP Collectors» form will open up, select a needed server press «Add» button.

~4~

Addition of server is presented on Figure 3.

Figure 3 Addition of SNMP Collector

Connecting server to the database Select SNMP Collector server in objects tree, then go «Settings»->«Monitoring». In properties panel select SQL server with MultiMonitor database from drop down menu for property «Connection string». Also select authentication method, usually «Use SQL Authentication» with default login MultiScreen4 and default password MultiScreen_4. This flow is shown on a Figure 4. If connection was successful, then «State» in Monitoring branch will change to «Operating». Note: SNMP Collector server is supported by MultiMonitor database in versions 5.1.3 and higher. You may view database version in property «DB Version» in Monitoring branch.

Setup for work with WISI Chameleon Go to the branch «WISI devices» in objects tree and select «Add» from context menu. Interface for addition of WISI is presented on a Figure 5.

Set following parameters:.

    

«Type» - type of input signal. DVB-S2 and DVB-T2 are supported. «Name» - name of receiver. This name will be displayed in objects tree and used for logging alerts into database. If you leave it blank, the system will assign a default name. «Module» - number for head-end WISI. «Channel» - number of the channel of head-end station. «SNMP agent» - parameters for SNMP, needed for connection to head-end station, namely: «IP Address» - IP address of head-end station; «Community» - level of access; «Refresh period» - fetching cycle in sec(s). Setup of SNMP at head-end station is described in «Appendix 1. Setup of SNMP for head-end station WISI Chameleon». «Stream Settings» - parameters for calculation of bitrate and Eb/N0 ratio of incoming signal in DVB-S2 receiver. Note: by default the system is trying automatically to set parameters, received from the device via SNMP service. If case of success, these parameters will be used for calculations.

If settings are incorrect or application for some reason cannot connect to the device, alert «SNMP Connection Lost» will be generated. Press OK to finish setup. Parameters of incoming signal in properties panel of WISI DVB-S2 Channel Stream MultiMonitor allows viewing of real-time parameters of incoming signal. Select receiver in objects tree and open properties panel. Parameters are being displayed in a group «4. Current state». The system displays:       

Capture of the signal by the receiver; Signal noise level, dBm; Signal/noise ratio, dB; Intensity of bit errors, BER; Eb/N0 ratio; Valid stream bitrate, kbps Total stream bitrate, kbps

For refreshing of values either press «Get» button in toolbox of objects tree or select «Get» from context menu for WISI DVB-S2 Channel object.

~7~

Properties panel also displays:  «1. SNMP Agent» connection parameters for SNMP;  «2. Device WISI» - input authentication for head-end station;  «3. Stream Settings» - parameters of incoming signal;  «4. Real-time status» - current parameters of the stream;  «5. Alerts» - turn on/off detection of alerts.  «6. Alarm SNMP Connection Lost» settings for alarm;  «7. Alarm Signal Unlocked»» - settings for alarm;  «8. Alarm RF Level» » - settings for alarm;  «SNR Level» - «9. Alarm SNR Level» » settings for alarm;  «10. Alarm BER Level» » - settings for alarm;  «11. Alarm Eb/N0 Level» » - settings for alarm.

Setup of real-time status panel Stream MultiMonitor supports displaying of real-time status of inputs of WISI Chameleon. Entries can be added to the status panel via GUI for design, presented on a Figure 7. Each row represents alerts, currently enabled for the source.

Note: colors palette for alerts of SNMP Collector can be changed. Open «System settings» in objects tree, select alert in «Alerts» category and change a color in a properties panel.

Alerts Module SNMP Collector allows monitoring quality of incoming DVB-S2 and DVB-T2 periodically, fetching data from the device via SNMP. System allows detecting of follows errors:      

SNMP Connection Lost Signal Unlocked RF Level SNR Level BER Level Eb/N0 Level – ошибка определяется только для сигналов DVB-S2.

Parameters for alerts are being set independently for each channel in properties panel for WISI DVB-T2 Channel and WISI DVB-S2 Channel objects. SNMP Connection Lost Error indicates that attempt to connect to device is timed -out. This is a fatal error; service is not available and no data could be collected.

Parameters ON – turn on/off detection of this event. Time-out, sec – period of event detection, seconds. Signal Unlocked Error indicates that synchronization signal is lost for the given channel. This error is fatal; no reception for the given channel.

Parameters ON – turn on/off detection of this event. Time-out, sec – period of event detection, seconds. RF Level Error indicates that level of reception is beyond of designated range.

~ 10 ~

Parameters ON – turn on/off detection of this event. Time-out, sec – period of event detection, seconds. High threshold, dB – alert goes off if reception level is above of this threshold. The value can be set to 0. In this case high threshold will be disregarded. Low threshold, dB – alert goes off if reception level is below of this threshold. The value can be set to 0. In this case high threshold will be disregarded. SNR Level Error indicates that signal/noise ratio SNR is beyond the designated range.
