NTRODUCT TION BY THE CHAIR OF GOVER RNORS IN 20 012/13 has beeen an exception nal and a very successful year ffor Barking & D Dagenham Colle ege.  The Collegge has not only been rated as  ou utstanding for LLeadership & M Management byy OFSTED but thhere has also be een a major reb building projectt which has see en the opening of  th he wonderful Ju ubilee Building.  On behalf of tthe Governing BBody I would likke to express our thanks and ccongratulationss to the staff,  le eaders and Principal for their sskill, commitme ent and passionn which has enaabled so many S Students to be ssuccessful.  I am m proud to say  th hat Barking and d Dagenham Co ollege is “A Trulyy Great Collegee Passionate about Success”.     T This Strategic Diirections docum ment articulates the Colleges vvision, mission and strategic objectives for thhe three years tto 2016.   It has  be een fully endorrsed by the Govverning Body an nd was the prodduct of a comprehensive consultation involviing Students, sttaff, leaders,  go overnors and co ommunity stakeholders. The C College is comm mitted to delive ering transformational learningg experiences a and continuous  im mprovement.   W We are active p participants in tthe economic ddevelopment off the Borough and east Londonn.  Our staff are e professionallyy  de eveloped, we sttrive for best vaalue from our p public funding aand are highly ssuccessful in seeking new sourrces of income.. The Governingg  Bo ody and the Strrategic Leadership Team has vvery high aspiraations for the Co ollege, especially the success oof its Students.  To achieve all  th his, the Corporaation will contin nue to challengge and support tthe College in its journey from m Good to Grea t.

A MESSAGE FROM TH HE PRINCIPAL & CHIIEF EXECU UTIVE Our vision is for Barking & Dageenham College to be a Truly G reat College, Paassionate about Success and oour Mission is to be Outstanding  in n Education, Traaining and Partn nerships.  Our SStrategic Directtions 2013‐2016 6 builds upon the significant pprogress the College has madee  to owards fulfillingg our vision.     20 012/13 was ano other very succcessful year in o our journey, witth a great OFST TED Inspection result in April 22013, with “Outtstanding in  Le eadership, Man nagement and G Governance" an nd "Support forr Students". Succcess rates continued in their  upward trajecttory with our  sttudents giving p personal best p performances an nd their feedbaack, plus feedbaack from our em mployer clients  s was, as ever, e extremely  po ositive, with greeat tips for how w the College ca an improve eveen further. Adam m Gemili, our former student  and Team GB O Olympic sprinteer,  won the nationa w al Association off Colleges’ "Student of the Yeaar Award" in No ovember 2012.  Moreover sevveral student en ntrepreneurs  crreated their ow wn businesses and won nationa al awards and ccommendations for entrepren neurialism. The  College won th he national Times  Ed ducation Award d for "Outstand ding E‐Learning" and participatted in several G Good Practice conferences to sshare our Transsforming  Te eaching and Leaarning strategiees, in vocationa al education an d training (VET).     mance in 2012//13 was Outstanding, enablingg us to invest an nd modernise o our Rush Greenn Campus and d develop more  Financial perform in ndustry standarrd, 21st centuryy training facilities.  In Septem ber 2013, we o opened our bran nd new Jubilee  Building with rretail outlets for  sttudent enterpriises, a Regionall Gazelle STEM Centre and a n ew Learning Re esources Centre e: all open to thhe public.  In Se eptember 2014,,  we look forward w  to the launch o of our new Digiital Hub with Inncubation facilitties for our stud dents' micro buusinesses in the e Digital and  Crreative Industriies, and a refurrbished suite of Data Communnications and cle ean engineering training facilitties for our students.     Whilst we are pr W roud of all of ou ur achievementts, particularly tthose of our stu udents, we are committed to eeven greater su uccess. We will  allways strive forr and foster exccellence in all th hat we do. We ccan achieve this by working to ogether as One  Team; by role modelling  Baarking & Dagen nham College vaalues; and by co ontinuing to deeliver even bettter results for our students, ouur employers, o our communitiees  an nd our own peo ople.     We know that su W uccess is only possible with and through peopple working in tteams, collaborrating and in paartnership across the sub‐regio on  fo or the greater ggood of studentts, their successs and their proggression into work or to higher levels of studyy.  For this grea at team work I  would like to tha w ank our Corporaation Board, all our local businness partners and of course, siincere thanks too all our own people – the staaff  off Barking & Daggenham Collegee for their comm mitment, motivvation and enth husiasm – and o our students whho are worthy a ambassadors fo or  th he College and tthe Corporation Board.     I aam extremely h honoured to bee the Principal & & Chief Executivve of our great College, particu ularly at this tim me as we make e choices, deal  with challenges a w and create opp portunities for o our students to  become highlyy skilled workerrs, economicallyy independent, contributing to o  ecconomic growth within our loccality and regio on, and highly m marketable as aa rich pool of skilled talent in thhe labour markket.
