STOP VIOLENCE for Health Sector The Project is implemented by ROSA Organization in partnership with College of Nursing, o.p.s. and is supported by the Open Society Fund Prague from the Let’s Give (Wo)men a Chance programme, financed from Norway Grants.

ROSA Organization • Women’s NGO • Established in 1993 • Information and counseling center for women victims of violence • Shelter • Phone line, internet counseling • Trainings, publications, international cooperation (WAVE)

Aims of the project • improve access to information for health care sector • comprehensive training program for the medical professions • accentuate sensitivity to victims • prevention of secondary victimization in health care settings • increase victim’s safety • strengthen multi-sectorial cooperation

Why focus on health care • virtually every woman uses the healthcare system at some point.

• the health service is in a unique position to help women who suffer domestic abuse get the support they need. • if we create an environment in which women are more likely to feel safe enough to reveal that they are being abused and can therefore access information, we can make a real difference for many women and their children.

Primary target group

1. Students of health and medical schools

Current state • e-learning modules are finalized • uploading on web page of College of Nursing • instructional videos • consultations for students in the Information and counseling center ROSA • modules will be offered to other nursing colleges

Manual for practitioners • development based on needs and experiences of practitioners • will include results of Study on health consequences of domestic violence • training of nurses and paramedics in 5 hospitals in Prague • methodical cards for health care professionals

Preliminary results • data collection is still in the process • up to date more than 100 filled questionnaires • women would welcome if they would be asked by medical staff about DV

• they would welcome safety planning and directions to specialized services • high rate of suicidal thoughts and attempts

Prevention – Media Campaign • main focus: to increase motivation of women, survivors of violence to seek help in services • raising awareness about specialized services • short videos based on statistic that every 3rd women experienced some form of violence during her life
