Instructions for New ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager Users This document offers step-by-step instructions for benchmarking your building with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager and San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E®) Automated Benchmarking Service. To learn more about benchmarking, please visit the Portfolio Manager Tutorial, which can be found at energystar.gov/istar/pmpam, the ENERGY STAR benchmarking website at energystar.gov/benchmark and SDG&E’s benchmarking website at sdge.com/benchmarking.

Overview ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, an online service created by the EPA, allows you to track your building’s energy performance and compare it to similar buildings nationwide. To make benchmarking easier and more convenient, SDG&E offers an Automated Benchmarking Service (ABS). SDG&E’s ABS will automatically upload your building’s energy use directly to Portfolio Manager so you don’t have to manually enter the data from your monthly bills.

1

Step 1 – Determine if Your Building is Eligible for Benchmarking SDG&E offers a Benchmarking Application Supplement to help you determine up front whether your building can receive a benchmark score. If ENERGY STAR does not currently offer your building the ability to receive a benchmark score, you can still use Portfolio Manager to track your energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and energy-efficiency improvements. Complete the Benchmarking Application Supplement and proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 – Gather Data for Benchmarking 2.1 Fill out the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Data Collection Worksheet by entering in the information for all of your space types within your building. Learn more about space types at energystar.gov/index. cfm?c=eligibility.bus_portfoliomanager_space_types#bank. 2.2 Record all ten-digit SDG&E account numbers associated with the building. Your account number is located on your SDG&E bill. 2.3 Record an eight-digit meter number associated with one of your SDG&E account numbers. Your meter number is also located on your bill. 2.4 Record the five-digit zip code of the building you are benchmarking. You now have all of the information you need to benchmark your building. Proceed to Step 3.

2

BENCHMARKING

Step 3 – Register a Portfolio Manager Account Before you begin benchmarking, you will need to create an account in Portfolio Manager. 3.1 Go to the Portfolio Manager Login Page at energystar.gov/istar/pmpam/ and click on “Register”:

3.2 Fill out the required information. (Required information is marked with a red asterisk):

3

Step 4 – Create a Facility Profile To create a Facility Profile, you will enter information about your building and how it is used. Refer to your ENERGY STAR Data Collection Worksheet for the information you will need to input. 4.1 Add a facility by clicking on “Add a Property” in the “My Portfolio” page:

4.2 Select the property type that best describes your building:

4

4.3 Enter the required information about the property and click “Save”.

4.4 Congratulations! You have successfully created a Facility Profile. You can now view your building on the “My Portfolio” page. The next steps describe how to enter information about your building space and energy use so you can get a benchmark score. 4.5 Access your building by clicking on the facility’s name in the “My Portfolio” page.

5

Add Space Types to Your Building 4.6 Add a space by clicking on “Add Space” in the Space Use section of the “Facility Summary” page:

4.7 In the “Add a Facility Space” screen, enter the required information. You can keep the effective date Portfolio Manager provided for you. (If this date is incorrect; for instance, the space was part of a later addition to the building, you can replace it with the true date.) Select “Continue”.

6

BENCHMARKING

4.8 Refer to your ENERGY STAR Data Collection Worksheet. Input the required values of your space.

4.9 If your building has more than one space type, create additional space types by repeating Steps 4.6 through 4.8. 4.10 Congratulations! You have successfully entered your building’s space types. You are now at the last stage of benchmarking, which is to enter your building’s energy data. SDG&E can help you with this step by automatically uploading 36 months of energy data directly into Portfolio Manager for you.

7

Step 5 – Add Meters to Your Building 5.1 From the “Facility Summary” page, click on “Add Meter” in the Energy Meters section:

5.2 Enter your ten (10)-digit SDG&E account number in the “Meter Name” field. (Do not add hyphens or any special characters.)

To enroll in SDG&E’s ABS, the “Meter Name” field must be a 10-digit SDG&E Account Number (no hyphens or special characters)

5.3 Enter the other required information. (Note: For electricity, the units are “kWh” and for natural gas the units are “therms”.) 5.4 Answer “No” to the question “Will an Energy Service Provider provide data for this meter through Automated Benchmarking Services?” It is not necessary to select SDG&E as an Energy Service Provider or to enter your meter ID here. This will be done at a later step. 5.5 Select “Save”. 5.6 Skip the “Add Meter Entries” screen by pressing “Cancel.” Once you enroll in SDG&E’s Automated Benchmarking Service (Step 6), SDG&E will automatically populate these fields for you.

5.7 If you have multiple SDG&E account numbers for your building, simply repeat Steps 5.1 to 5.6 until all SDG&E account numbers have been entered in the “Meter Name” field.

Step 6 – Enroll in SDG&E’s Automated Benchmarking Service SDG&E’s Automated Benchmarking Service (ABS) will upload 36 months of your building’s energy data for your SDG&E accounts directly into your Portfolio Manager account. ABS knows which energy data to upload because it looks to the ten-digit account number you entered in the “Meter Name” field in Step 5.2. For ABS to work correctly, it is imperative that the ten-digit account number in the “Meter Name” field is correct.

9

Once you have completed Step 6, SDG&E will upload your previous 36 months of meter data within 24 hours. After the initial upload of data, ABS will continue to upload your data every month so that you can track your energy use and continue to receive the most up-to-date benchmarking score. To enroll in ABS, complete the following steps: 6.1 From the “My Portfolio” page click on the “Automated Benchmarking Services Console” link.

6.2 Select San Diego Gas & Electric® Company from the dropdown list under “Option 1: Select your Current Provider”. Click “ADD”.

10

BENCHMARKING

6.3 Read the Terms of Use and if you agree check the box “I agree to my provider’s Terms of Use.”

6.4 Select the second radio button and click “Continue.”

6.5 Select the facilities you wish to upload data for. Click “Update List”, then click “Continue.”

11

6.6 Click the “Select All” button. Then, under the account numbers, select “Read/Write Access” for each account you wish to upload data for. The default will be “None.” No data will be uploaded if “None” is selected.

6.7 Refer to your Data Collection Worksheet. Enter an exact ten-digit SDG&E account number, an eight-digit meter number associated with the account number and the building’s 5 digit zip code.

12

BENCHMARKING

6.8 You should now be back to the main ABS Console screen.

6.9 After you have used ABS once, SDG&E will no longer appear in the drop down list of current providers. The table at the bottom of the screen will show SDG&E and the hyperlink “Change Authorization.” Click here to start the ABS process. It will take you straight to the screen to select your buildings (section 6.5), you will no longer have to agree to the terms and select the level of authorization.

(continued on back)

Congratulations! Your 36-months of energy data will be uploaded to your Portfolio Manager account within one day. Once your data is uploaded, you will be able to view your benchmark score. Your score will be located under “Current Rating” in the Facility Performance box. To apply for SDG&E rebates and incentives, you will be required to submit your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager’s “Statement of Energy Performance” with your rebate or incentive application. This report is located on the Facility Summary screen at the hyper-link: “Generate a Statement of Energy Performance”.
