protect our assets Our stamps are mini-masterpieces that are admired and collected by millions around the world. We are often asked by organisations, businesses, publishers and individuals for permission to reproduce images of them. These guidelines give you all the information you need to be able to use our stamp imagery. Royal Mail owns the copyright on all British postage stamps issued in the last 70 years. When you help to protect the value of these assets, you also protect a little piece of the heritage that belongs to us all. Please make sure you follow the guidelines. They apply just as much to our special stamps as to our more familiar First Class and Second Class stamps. If you have any general questions about the use of our brand, please contact [email protected]

talk to us If you want to use our stamp imagery, you will need to go to our website and complete an online request form. You need to tell us what you want to use and why you want to use it. To fill in the form, just go to www.royalmail.com/ip Royal Mail will then consider your request. If it’s approved, you’ll be sent a Licence Agreement giving you permission to use the stamp imagery. Once you gain this permission, you may have to pay us a fee. This is intended to cover the costs of the licence and of our administration – and in some cases, there may be a royalty fee. Please bear in mind that once you’ve created final designs with our stamp imagery, you’ll need to send them to our brand team for approval. The Licence Agreement will give you all the details. Please note that if you want to reproduce the profile or portrait of HM the Queen, or other members of the Royal Family, you should observe the rules laid down by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office. For further details, please contact: Lord Chamberlain’s Office St James’s Palace London SW1A 1BG Or visit www.royal.gov.co.uk

make the most of our stamps

Stamps must be reproduced faithfully in every detail and in their entirety; showing the Monarch’s head, the stamp value and the stamp’s perforations.

All stamp-related imagery must be that of a genuine Royal Mail stamp and no part of a stamp design may be altered in any way to suit the purposes of any publication the stamp is appearing in.

When showing stamp images they must not be obscured or partly covered with another object or illustration – if a number of stamps are to be shown it is acceptable for some to be partly covered by others.

Stamps or stamp-related imagery should not be reproduced in any manner which impacts negatively on Royal Mail, its subsidiaries or others involved in the production of stamps (such as artists, photographers or designers).

Please treat our stamps and all stamp imagery with the respect they deserve. They are a much loved part of our heritage and any misuse will be investigated.

respect our media plans Media embargos We like to surprise and delight the public with our stamps. That’s why stamp imagery does not appear in the media for 20 weeks before the issue date. There are no exceptions to this – we include local, national and the philatelic press as well as electronic and online media. We appreciate that sometimes production deadlines may require you to have access to stamp imagery ahead of the three month embargo. If this is the case, please let us know. You can do this when you fill in the online request form or else, if you already have a Licence Agreement, you can contact our brand team. Either way, we should be able to accommodate you. Media enquiries If you have any media enquiries about the use of our stamp imagery, please contact our press office on 0207 250 2847. Or write to: Press Office Royal Mail 148 Old Street London EC1V 9HQ
