.3

Lay-out and install tile surfaces in accordance with tile pattern drawings. Advise Consultant of problems encountered achieving patterns illustrated prior to installation.

.4

Fit tile around corners, fitments, fixtures, drains and other built-in objects. Maintain uniform joint appearance. Cut edges smooth and even.

.5

Maximum surface tolerance 1:800.

.6

Make joints between tile uniform and approximately 1.5 to 3.0 mm wide (1/16 to 1/8 in.) wide, plumb, straight, true, even and flush with adjacent tile. Ensure sheet layout not visible after installation. Align patterns/joints of wall and floor tiles.

.7

Make internal angles square, external angles rounded (bullnosed).

.8

Use round or bullnose edged tiles at termination of wall tile panels, except where panel abuts projecting surface or differing plane (internal angle).

.9

Install manufactured control joints at ceramic tile (CT and CMT types) flooring directly over concrete slab pour joints. Caulked joints are not acceptable as control joints.

.10

Install specially formed, non-ferrous metal divider strips at junction of tile flooring and dissimilar materials.

.11

Bring scratch coat to an even surface ready to receive mortar setting bed. Scratch to a rough surface. Allow to dry and cure. Reinforce scratch coat on walls, curbs and thin mortar bed on floors with selffurring bronze woven wire cloth, 2-1/2 mesh as specified, to resist shrinkage and cracking.

.4

Apply mortar bed in uniform thickness and to follow slopes indicated to produce required slopes to drains.

.5

Use sub-screeds and floating method of installing mortar bed on the floor.

.6

Soak tile at least 1/2 hour in clear water. Remove from water and stack on edge to drain off excess water before setting. Do not set tile that has free water on the back or shows drying out of any part.

.7

Bring every fourth course, vertical and horizontal, to plumb, straight and/or level continuous lines.

.8

Thoroughly back up with mortar all cove, cap, nosing, trimmer and moulded or shaped pieces and secure firmly in place.

.9

Leave or cut openings to correct sizes to receive accessories, fittings, or other built-in work. Drill tile for hardware and for pipes where possible; otherwise at pipes and fittings, fit tile closely so that escutcheons cover cuts.

.10

Cut and grind tile accurately, and without damage, to fit openings and at intersections and against trim finish. Rub exposed edges smooth with abrasive stone.

.11

Lightly tap tiles with a solid object. If there is a hollow sound, remove tile, check for adhesion and re-tile area.

.12

Use cove base at mortar bed tile installations - wet locations.
