JOSEPH Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary the mother of Jesus, was a carpenter of Nazareth. Saint Matthew’s Gospel describes him as ‘a just man’. When he discovered that Mary was pregnant, he did not wish to shame her publicly for bearing what he presumed was an illegitimate child. His plan was to allow her to bear the baby in private. But he was blessed with a vision of an angel of God, which appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Do not fear to take Mary as your wife. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son and you will call his name Jesus.” Saint Joseph bore the responsibilities of a father perfectly. He it was who learned from an angel – again in a dream – that King Herod planned to kill the infant Jesus. Joseph took Mary and Jesus away by night to Egypt and thus saved the life of the Savior. He kept the child hidden from Herod’s son, in case he too would have harmed Jesus. Joseph was with Mary in the stable in Bethlehem when Jesus was born. He was

looking after the mother and child when the shepherds and the Magi came to worship him. He took Mary and Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to God in the Jerusalem Temple. He shared Mary’s anxieties for her son when Jesus was presumed lost, after their visit to the Temple when he was twelve years old. After this no more is heard of Saint Joseph in the New Testament. He is not mentioned as being present at the crucifixion, a fact which persuaded many artists to portray him as an old man who had presumably died by the time Jesus was in his early thirties. The notion of Joseph as the foster-father of Jesus fired the imagination of the medieval church. Saint John Chrysostom pointed to the anxieties of Joseph as a pattern of the trials of all Christians – relieved as they are by God’s intervention. In the fifteenth century the French churchman, Jean Gerson wrote twelve poems in his honor. Saint Teresa of Avila chose him as the practical saint who should be patron of her friars and nuns.

This week we are going to continue our reflections about confession and to do everything in the right way after the absolution. In former bulletins we explained how to prepare us to confess our sins. Remember to fulfill this Sacrament with a few things after your Confession.

After Confession Give thanks to God for forgiving you again. If you recall some serious sin you forgot to tell, rest assured that it has been forgiven with the others, but be sure to confess it in your next Confession. Remember to do your “Penance”. Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the meaning of Satisfaction after the Confession. The Satisfaction 1459 Many sins wrong our neighbor. One must do what is possible in order to repair the harm (e.g., return stolen goods, restore the reputation of someone slandered, pay compensation for injuries). Simple justice requires as much. But sin also injures and weakens the sinner himself, as well as his relationships with God and neighbor. Absolution takes away sin, but it does not remedy all the disorders sin has caused.62 Raised up from sin, the sinner must still recover his full spiritual health by doing something more to make amends for the sin: he must "make satisfaction for" or "expiate" his sins. This satisfaction is also called "penance."

Po Spowiedzi Dziękuj Bogu za ponowne przebaczenie. Jeżeli przypomnisz sobie jakiś poważny grzech który zapomniałeś wyznać, bądź pewny, że został przebaczony z innymi, ale pamiętaj, aby wyznać ten grzech przy następnej spowiedzi. Pamiętaj wypełnić „Pokutę”. Katechizm kościoła katolickiego wyjaśnia znaczenie Zadośćuczynienia po spowiedzi. Zadośćuczynienie 1459 Wiele grzechów przynosi szkodę bliźniemu. Należy uczynić wszystko, co możliwe, aby ją naprawić (na przykład oddać rzeczy ukradzione, przywrócić dobrą sławę temu, kto został oczerniony, wynagrodzić krzywdy). Wymaga tego zwyczajna sprawiedliwość. Ponadto grzech rani i osłabia samego grzesznika, a także jego relację z Bogiem i z drugim człowiekiem. Rozgrzeszenie usuwa grzech, ale nie usuwa wszelkiego nieporządku, jaki wprowadził grzech. Grzesznik podźwignięty z grzechu musi jeszcze odzyskać pełne zdrowie duchowe. Powinien zatem zrobić coś więcej, by naprawić swoje winy: powinien "zadośćuczynić" w odpowiedni sposób lub "odpokutować" za swoje grzechy. To zadośćuczynienie jest nazywane także "pokutą".
