ST. GEORGES ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL NO. 4666

‘Knowledge, Service, Happiness’ Week 4 Term 3 — Thursday, August 4th 2016

Website: www.stgeorges.vic.edu.au

Return from Long Service Leave: While I had a wonderful Long Service Leave break it was lovely to return to St Georges Rd Primary School last week. A very big thankyou to Mrs Morris and Mr Simpson who did a stellar job leading the school in my absence. Mr Cameron also returned from his Leave to the United States this week.

Farewell Mr Sims: This is Noah Sim’s last week at St Georges Rd after 18 months of stellar service to the school. Noah has supported students, classrooms and extra-curricular activities with the utmost enthusiasm and professionalism. He will be a loss, but is excited to be pursing a dream of playing NFL football in Wollongong NSW. We wish Noah all the very best for the future and thank him for the fantastic contribution he has made to our school.

Mrs Morris: has also made the hard decision to return to the United States at the end of this term. She will join her children and will be followed up by the rest of her family later in the year. The school will miss the major contribution Ceil has made and will acknowledge her contributions as our Assistant Principal, later in the term.

Celebrating indigenous culture: Last week we celebrated NAIDOC week at St Georges Rd. The week was opened up by Marlene Atkinson and closed with a special assembly that showcased our Sharing Stories project and the talents of our indigenous students. Senior indigenous students and a buddy worked on creating an animated digital story of ‘How the Murray River Was Made’; over 2 years with Sharing Stories Foundation. They got to use some amazing technology to create the digital story. Aboriginal elders worked with the group, while several family members helped to prepare the students for Friday's performance. A big thankyou to Dave Edwards who guided the didgeridoo players and Nicole and Bec Atkinson who provided the body painting.

Prep Open Day: Is next Wednesday August 10th commencing at 9:30am—10:45am.

It will be an exciting program for the children and important that parents come along. We would like to complete enrolment forms for all incoming preps and ask that parents bring along Birth and Immunisation documents, Medicare and Health care cards. Staff will assist with completing the enrolment process on this day.

Parent Opinion Survey: We have been gathering the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Opinion surveys (issued randomly to families). It is very important to us to get parent feedback on how we perform and how we can improve. Every family issued with a survey is requested to complete and return no later than tomorrow, Friday August 5th. Names of respondents will go into a draw to win a family dinner award.

Star Student Scholarships: Our school places a high importance on student leadership and our School Values. Last year we had 8 Grade 5 students who received a $500 educational scholarship for their Grade 6 year. These students will present their achievements to date to their sponsors at a special reception on Thursday August 11th. We are preparing for the next lot of scholarships for this year’s Grade 5s. We will finalise sponsors by the end of this term. August 5, 12, 19 & 26
