Welcome Welcome to our annual Spring Gala. Each year numerous volunteers, together with the Center for School-Community Partnership, work tirelessly to present us with an evening of great food, community-building and lots of bidding. All this is done in an effort to raise money for the important work of the PTAs and ASIJ. Both the Chofu and ELC PTAs work together throughout the year to foster a united American School in Japan that enjoys the strong support of parents, administrators and alumni. In so many ways, this Gala is the highlight of the events that define our school community. It is the ultimate way for us to come together, united around a worthy cause — our children! With your help we will continue to fund PTA events such as Spirit Day and the ELC’s Fall Family Festival as well as programs such as parent education, grants and continuing education for teachers and administrators. We also support the 8th Grade Celebration, the 12th Grade Graduation Reception and Japanese culture activities including omochi pounding; sweet potato digging; taiko drumming and sumo wrestlers, plus so much more. PTA funding is crucial for so many of the best memories our children take away with them from ASIJ. On behalf of the ELC and Chofu PTA boards, we want to thank you for your support. We hope that everyone will go home with fond memories or more tonight. Enjoy your evening! Sincerely, Lenore Reese and Anush Balian ELC and Chofu PTA Boards

Highly talented band with over 300 Hawaiian songs in its repertoire, they are in their 10th year of performing live in clubs, hotels and at various local events.

L2 - India Train Adventure L0 The Ridge Wine Upgrade - Bottoms Up! Tonight’s wine upgrade offers the chance to receive 12 amazing bottles of California wine to savor with your meal tonight, and to take with you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. The winner’s table will enjoy six bottles of Ridge Monte Bello 2012 and six bottles of Ridge Monte Bello Chardonnay 2012. Ridge Vineyards began in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor who became a prominent member of San Francisco’s Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge, in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. He terraced the slopes and planted vineyards; using native limestone, he constructed the Monte Bello Winery, producing the first vintage under that name in 1892. This unique cellar, built into the mountainside on three levels, is Ridge’s production facility. The signature wine of Ridge is its Monte Bello, a field blend of Cabernet Sauvignon mixed with varying percentages of other varietals grown in the same location— usually including Merlot, Petit Verdot and occasionally Cabernet Franc. Vinous Media described the 2012 Monte Bello as “one of the most harmonious young Monte Bellos I can remember tasting. Seamless and voluptuous through to the finish, the 2012 is showing beautifully today. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, white flowers, mint and spices are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. A wine with a distinctly red-hued profile, silky tannins, no hard edges and exceptional overall balance, the 2012 Monte Bello is simply magnificent. The 2012 is racy but also impeccably balanced throughout.” They rated it a whopping 98 points. The Monte Bello Chardonnay was also well received, earning a solid 94 points from the Wine Advocate. They described it as “a beauty” noting that it was “ripe, concentrated and still fresh, with lots of golden fruits, toasty oak, crème brulee and minerality, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with a classy, balanced fruit and integrated acidity.”
