Dear Friends of the House, For the families of little ones with life-threatening illnesses every day can be a challenge. That's why Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield creates a "home-away-from-home" and supportive environment 24/7/365, so the families can focus on their number one priority, the health of their child, rather than anything else-paying bills, cooking meals, cleaning the house. Our House helps to provide a sense of normalcy with home-cooked meals, comfortable beds, and recreational areas for the family. Staying at our House helps to create connections with other families, RMHC staff and support systems. The Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield provides 10 bedrooms to families each night, saving them over $180,000 annually in motel costs alone. Since the House opened in 1983, the donation requested from the families has remained at a modest $5 per night, and no family is ever turned away due to inability to pay. In order to keep the cost so low, the House fundraises most of its budget through the generosity of faithful supporters like you! Sincerely, Sandra Zygarlicke, House Director

The impact of your support is revealed in the words of our guest families who have given us permission to share their stories. 6-20-11 Hello. My name is Pamela, and my daughter’s name is Courtney. She is 14 years old. Our story starts about 2 1/2 years ago when she was finally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. This ultimately led to her having major surgery back in April of this year. She had her colon removed and had an ileostomy~ which is where they remove your colon and you void your bowel though a bag on your stomach. Right now it is the 24th of June. On Monday she had the reversal surgery so she no longer needs the bag on her stomach; so far so good. This is my 2nd time here at the Ronald McDonald House. The first time I stayed here was back in November of 2010. I stayed in Bedroom 6 with my mom and my oldest niece for a night. This time I am here alone in Bedroom 4. These rooms are all very nice and comfortable! Of course no place will ever be like home, but this is probably the next best thing. For the past 2 1/2 years I stayed in the hospital room with my daughter until last November when I had company, and the hospital rooms are just not equipped to hold a lot of people. I am sure glad that the Ronald McDonald House is available. It keeps you close to your child but also offers a more comfortable night’s sleep, which is very important. You can’t take care of other people unless you take care of yourself. We live in Ashland, Wisconsin which is almost a 4-hour drive from here, so again, it’s nice to have a place such as the Ronald McDonald House so you can get a good night’s sleep. You have

ope

a place to shower, eat, rest and relax. I know that area places and people provide a dinner (free of charge) to parents and family that stay at this Ronald McDonald House! The staff is great and very helpful, too. I don’t know when we will get to go home. It looks like it might be a few more days. Courtney is able to have ice chips and hard candy, but they said it is a slow process. She might be able to move to a soft diet within a few days, and, hopefully, she will be able to eat “real” food and not have any trouble with that. I just want to say, “Have faith and keep your head up. With God & Faith, all is possible.” God Bless,

The Muellers

4-1-11 My name is Brenda, and I am here with my daughter while my grand-daughter (2 yr old) Alexis Grace is in the hospital. We have been here five days now, and she is improving. She was sent from Rice Lake, WI after they found an abscess the size of a softball in her lung. It was full of infection, and they inserted a tube in her back to drain it. She had been sick for a month, but we didn’t know why she wasn’t getting better. The bacteria is resistant to antibiotics, so treating it is a challenge. She has a PIC line to deliver lots of strong antibiotics, so we are hopeful. She is getting better every day! We are so thankful for the Ronald McDonald House and the hospitality. The blanket she received has been a comfort to her. God has answered many prayers through this event, and Ronald McDonald House is just one of them. May God bless you and your little one,

Brenda Oftedahl Bedroom 4 PS-Alexis is doing great today! She likes to tell people about her hospital stay.

This is our second stay at the Ronald McDonald House. Our first was just last year when our son was born on Feb. 10, 2010 at 16- weeks premature. He weighed 1# 11 oz. We stayed here on and off for 3 months until he was able to come home on Mother’s Day. Now, almost one year later, we are back again. Our son was hospitalized back home with pneumonia and bronchitis. He ended up being brought to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital because he had taken a turn for the worse and needed to have a tube put down his throat to help him breathe. He was admitted to the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) on April 15. He was there for a week with the breathing tube in. He now has his tube out and has been moved over to the Pediatrics unit. There they will watch him and his breathing for 24 to 48 hours to make sure he doesn’t have any complications. If all goes well, we should be able to go home tomorrow or Monday. Without the Ronald McDonald House I don’t know what we would have done. I am so glad that there is a place to go that provides home cooked meals, a place to shower and a bed to sleep in. And it is right across the street from where my son is. We will be thinking of and praying for all those that stay at the RMH.

December 29, 2011 – January 6, 2012 Well, an unexpected delivery seven weeks early brought us here. Our Christmas miracle was born Christmas Eve at 11:11 p.m. Isabella Noel was brought into this world at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point and then transported to Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Marshfield. Ron’s House is a lifesaver and filled with a wonderful spirit and energy. I pray whoever reads these words has a short and pleasant stay here. God bless,

The Baron family Wauwatosa Bedroom 9

Who’s on Facebook? Thanks so much for “friending” the Ronald McDonald House of Marshfield this past year. Due to circumstances beyond our control, our House page was deleted from the Facebook system. Our Volunteer Katie has just re-established our Facebook page, so please go on line and “friend” us again. Our goal is now 212 friends by the end of 2012. Watch for more news and photos coming your way each month on Facebook about our House and the families we serve.
