Volunteers celebrating! VFW Post 10087

Allan O'Neal, Entertainer

Commissioner Kenney with volunteer Pat Bellamy

Music, fine food, dancing, and meeting old and new friends resulted in a grand event celebrating the accomplishments of volunteers. The event held at the Citrus Springs Community Center included a Golden Choice Award, Years of Service Awards & Presidential Service Awards. We celebrated our volunteers with the theme “Volunteers Make the Perfect Recipe”. To commemorate this event volunteers were given the gift of a cookbook with recipes contributed by RSVP and NCVC volunteers. NCVC & RSVP — April 2011

YEARS OF SERVICE AWARDS The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, more commonly known as RSVP, was first funded in Citrus County during 1989. Since that time, volunteers age 55 and “better” have met many critical community needs by their affiliation with a wide array of organizations. RSVP volunteers fulfill the federal program mission of engaging older adults to carry out projects that positively impact communities across the United States. Though we continue to increase membership with new volunteers signing up every day, the organization is focused on community impact and outcomes. The years of service pins are a small token highlighting volunteers who have made a long-term commitment to volunteer service, RSVP, and the Volunteer Center. If your name is listed for a pin or other award, and you were not in attendance at the event, please make arrangements to stop by our office at your convenience to pick up your pin.

The Senior Companion Program had a very exciting celebration this year, two of the Senior Companions completed 10 years of service – Hugh Gragen, who has served 10,097 hours and Carol Lunsford, who has served 8,401 hours. This is a marvelous achievement and we are all very proud and grateful for their service to the program and the community. Pictured below are Carol and Hugh receiving their awards from Sue Carscadden, Senior Companion Program Assistant, and Heidi Blanchette, Operations Manager.

We would like to welcome two new volunteers who recently completed their training – Jean MacDougall and Shirley Strunk.

Seniors on the Move are sad to report that Dave Starker, our Inverness Coordinator had to resign due to ill health. On behalf of the program and his patrons, we wish Dave a speedy recovery. We are pleased to announce we have a new coordinator, Jackie Reiss, who will take over the Inverness area after completing her training at the end of April. She will join Bonnie Pilkington and Gloria Schwarz, completing the Seniors on the Move Team. They are always looking for new patrons so if you want to get out and socialize please call the number below to sign-up. If you would like to be part of a wonderful group who make a huge impact on a lot of people’s lives, or if you, or a friend or family member would benefit from the services offered by either the Senior Companion or Seniors on the Move programs, please call 352527-5959 for more details.

Helpful Hints for Completing RSVP Travel Vouchers:

Effective 1/03/06

1. All RSVP travel vouchers must be completed using an ink pen. 2. Do not use “white out”. Do not erase. To make a correction, draw a line through any incorrect information, write the correction, then initial the error. 3. In order to provide this partial mileage reimbursement to as many volunteers as possible, while at the same time maximizing the use of grant travel dollars, a minimum of three (3) hours of volunteer service is required per day to be considered for reimbursement. Current maximum reimbursement is $200 per volunteer per grant year (Sept. 30-Sept. 29). Please note: The minimum hours,

maximum yearly reimbursement, and possible seasonal adjustment reimbursement rate may fluctuate according to the current balance of grant travel dollars.

4. In the Volunteer Work Sites line(s), you may list one or more volunteer sites. If your volunteering requires more than one travel voucher for a month, please use a separate voucher for each site. 5. An Authorized Station Signature is required for each site if you are seeking partial mileage reimbursement for that site. 6. Only travel within Citrus County may be considered for reimbursement. Please indicate “to/from county line” if applicable. 7. On the “Home to…. & Home” line, indicate the place and city where you volunteered. 8. Remember to sign in the “Volunteer Signature” space. 9. PLEASE DO NOT WRITE IN GRAY AREAS.

Special notes:  



RSVP Travel vouchers must be original documents. No copies or faxes will be processed. Partial mileage reimbursement is only available from your home to your volunteer site and from your volunteer site directly back to your home, per the RSVP Operations Handbook. Mileage incurred during your volunteer shift is not eligible for reimbursement due to grant policy. If travel does not total at least 32 miles during one month, you may wait until the next month to submit a travel voucher so that your request will meet the $5 minimum required for processing.

Please submit your RSVP travel vouchers in a timely manner. Call 527-5953 or visit our office if you need help to complete your travel voucher or if we can be of further assistance to you.
