OVERVIEW WHO: St. Paul’s Center is an emergency and transitional housing shelter for mothers and children. We are a secular organization providing a warm, nurturing and home-like environment, where each mother has the opportunity to become equipped and empowered to make a better life for herself and her children. In 2014, St. Paul’s Center: N Served 417 individuals and of that, 275 of the residents were homeless children under 18 years old. N Through our work with families who graduate from our shelter into their own homes, we were able to work with mothers in avoiding 45 evictions in 2014, keeping them safe in their homes. N We provided more than 8,432 healthy dinners, breakfasts and snacks to moms and their children.

WHAT:

is an interactive event featuring a cocktail hour, sit down dinner and an evening of “who done it” entertainment and audience participation is strongly encouraged! The event – and the murder – are following a roaring 20s theme. Hint, hint: we’re hoping more than the actors come in costume.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct 14, 2015, 5:30 – 10:00 p.m. WHERE: Italian American Center, Mallozzi’s at Treviso

AUDIENCE It’s been a few years since our last Murder Mystery event drawing over 350 people – and we decided to bring it back. We are working hard to draw a diverse crowd – young professionals, established business persons, couples needing a different kind of date night, anyone interested in a little drama with their meal. One thing they all have in common: they’re attending to support local families in need.

PROMOTION is open to the public and we utilize numerous media outlets to promote this event. n Local newspapers including the Times Union, online calendars, weeklies, etc. n Email blasts to our donor base and a newsletter mailing n Social media followers

ONGOING SUPPORT OF HOMELESS MOTHERS AND CHILDREN

./

OTHER CORPORATE LEVEL OF SUPPORT Newsletter Sponsorship – Be an ongoing advocate to the homeless and position yourself as a true partner in the community. Twice a year, we send hard copies of our newsletter, our primary source of communication to the many friends of St. Paul’s. About 3,000 copies are sent out each spring and winter. Also an opportunity for promotion in our electronic newsletter that gets sent out twice a year to more than 1,750 supporters. N Page 1 sponsor with a banner across the bottom: $250 covers both editions. N Inside edition sponsor will give you a 2x2 block inside page 2 or 3: $100 covers both editions N 3x3 square in our electronic newsletter: $30 per newsletter

Holiday Wreath – Not everyone is snuggled into a nice, warm home for the holidays. For the first time, St. Paul’s Center is using a holiday staple to promote the awareness of homelessness in our community. Beautiful 24”, double sided fresh balsam wreaths will be sold September-November for $20 each. Maybe your business will consider circulating order forms for us.

ENGAGING YOUR EMPLOYEES No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive – Many of our moms come to us with very little and rarely do they have diapers for the little ones. Your organization may hold a drive to gather diapers of all sizes – including pull-ups – to benefit the behinds of our babies and toddlers calling the shelter home. We are happy to provide flyers to promote your efforts. Setting-Up Housekeeping Drive – When you are homeless, rarely do you have the necessary items to set up housekeeping. You can help our families by organizing a drive to gather basic items for the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen and for cleaning. Catchy flyers and copy can be provided to you to help us fill some of the most basic needs. Angel Fund Supporters – St. Paul’s Center relies on our fundraising efforts to pay for some of the services and supports we provide our families – while they’re in shelter and for the first year after graduating to their own homes. We use the Angel Fund to: buy children’s school supplies; to cover fees involved in obtaining required documents like birth certificates; to cover deposits for utility services; to purchase food when they first leave shelter; to purchase a child’s mattress if other resources are not available. To support the Angel Fund, consider: holding $5 Dress Down Days;

vendor parties featuring a percentage of sales being donated; bake sales; bowl-a-thons/zumbathons/bike-a-thons; hair extension sales during November (homeless awareness month). “Take a Break” with Give Backs – Employees need a little break? Support the Shelter at one of their designated Give Back Benefits. From eateries to store discounts, get a group of employees together and enjoy a nice meal, ice cream cone, coffee or retail shopping to help curb their appetite and get them back to their day-to-day tasks.

These are just a few activities. All ideas are welcome and all efforts appreciated!
