1. We are in a spiritual war (10-12).

1. We are in a spiritual war (10-12). 2. We fight with spiritual weapons (13-17). • Belt • Breastplate • Boots (Army Sandals)
• Shield • Helmet • Sword
3. We fight with spiritual prayers (18-20).
SPIRITUAL WAR Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. SPIRITUAL WEAPONS Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)
WHAT? ..... “put on the full armor of God” WHY? ..... “be able to stand your ground”
SPIRITUAL WEAPONS Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 3. We fight with spiritual prayers (18-20).
SPIRITUAL PRAYERS And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:18-20 (NIV)
Heavenly Father, Leader I recognize that my primary struggle today will not be against flesh and blood. I know there is more to this life than meets the eye. Help me to see people the way you see them and to respond accordingly. Congregation Give us the strength to stand our
ground against this world. Enable us to recognize the world’s twisted values and perspectives.
Leader Today I choose to stand firm with the
belt of truth buckled around my waist.
Congregation Bring to our minds what is true when
confronted with the lies that permeate this world. As we open Your Word, renew our minds to what is true.
Leader I put on the breastplate of
righteousness. Thank You for giving me a righteous standing with You.
Congregation With Your help we will live a life that
reflects that righteousness. Give us the wisdom to know what’s right and the courage to do what’s right, even when it is hard.
Leader I put on the shoes of readiness.
Where You lead, I will follow.
Congregation Lead us to those who have not yet
accepted Your offer of salvation. Give us boldness and sensitivity as we represent You to others.
Leader I take up the shield of faith, which
has the power to help me stand against temptation, rejection, doubt, and fear.
Congregation On the cross, Christ overcame the
power of sin on our behalf and proved once and for all that we are fully accepted. His resurrection took away the basis for all our doubt and fear.
Leader I put on the helmet of salvation. My
salvation is a reminder of all You have done and will do in me.
Congregation It is a reminder of who we are and to
Whom we belong. You bought us with a price. You consider us valuable. You have called us Your children.
Leader I take up the sword of the Spirit,
which is Your Word.
Congregation Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a
light to our path. Through Your Word, bring our ways in line with Your ways and our thoughts in line with Your thoughts.
All We ask all of this in the name of
Jesus, Amen.
