PETEX Forum  YP Workshop  Robotics Workshops  OGA Workshops ExCeL LONDON 15-17 NOVEMBER 2016

PET It is with great pleasure that I can welcome you on behalf of the PESGB and the organising and technical committees to this year’s PETEX conference and what promises to be an exciting three days. There is no doubt that the last two years since the previous conference have been challenging, but with challenge also comes opportunity and in these difficult times, it is quite remarkable what individuals and companies have done to help make PETEX a success. They have stepped up and worked hard to bring together a tremendous technical programme of talks, events and exhibits. I would like to thank everyone for their efforts, whether they have been involved in a small way or have played a major role – Thank you.

What brought me into this industry was the innovation, technical challenges, excitement and endless possibilities. I have seen multiple boom and bust cycles, but this time we have to collectively learn to do things differently. If we stop innovating then our industry will go the way of many others. PETEX is all about finding out about recent technical achievements and advancements, recapturing the excitement, finding new ideas to test, discover new tools, techniques and data. Importantly, it is also about supporting people’s career development and sharing the possibilities of new things that the sheer scale and global nature of our industry provides. We have kept true to the original guiding principles of providing the opportunity to meet, network and show products and services. PETEX is not just a conference and exhibition. It is a community for oil and gas professionals to take time out, to think, challenge, discuss, share, learn – and participate.

Please make the best of this opportunity, enjoy the event, be inspired and enjoy each other’s company. I look forward to meeting many of you. Richard Fox P E T E X 2 0 1 6 C H AIR

Welcome to the PETEX 2016 Technical Programme

Tuesday 15 November

10.00 The technical committee have worked hard to bring you a diverse programmeme of content in 2016. The following pages aim to provide you with a rich three days of conference programme and we honestly hope that there are times when you wish you could be in three places at the same time. The conference launches on Tuesday 15th November with a stimulating set of keynote presentations from industry-significant contributors, which should set the tone for the event. We then split the conference into three main themes: 66 Global – Frontier plays to mature fields from around the globe with some excellent examples of applied technology. 66 Enabling Technology – Advanced acquisition to next generation imaging. 66 North West Europe – Onshore and offshore exploration and production on our doorstep. In addition to the principle technical programme, this year we have also highlighted the Collaboration Showcase in the main programme. This will present the interface between industry and academia and an opportunity for the next generation of geoscientists to shine. The current industry climate provides its own challenges and we have endeavored to meet those through the incorporation of two new areas into the event: The Future Working Zone and the Explore Your Career Zone. These zones aim to provide access to ideas, aspiration and a brighter future. There is a rich programme of presentations, posters and interactive events to enjoy in this PETEX conference. New for 2016 will be the Exploration Theatre, which will provide a showcase for multi-client data programmes as well as contributions from the Etches Collection, Ophir, NEFTEX and CSIRO (Australia). The Technical Committee would like to thank all contributors for their enthusiastic presence at what we hope will be an exciting conference! Collaboration really is at the heart of solving the key challenges facing the E&P sector currently, so AAPG (European Region), PESGB and the Petroleum Group are excited to present a vibrant Petroleum Geoscience Collaboration Showcase. The showcase is an excellent opportunity for industry and academia to meet, get inspired and demonstrate the value of collaborative applied research. There is ample opportunity for academics and industry representatives to connect across the two-day programmeme which is fully integrated within the PETEX programmeme and located within a designated area on the PETEX exhibition floor. From a large number of excellent examples of collaborative research across the core technical themes we are delighted to present a highquality technical programmeme. We are also pleased to have notable keynote presentations from Prof. John Underhill, Hon. Prof. Keith Gerdes, Prof. Bruce Levell and Dr. Ole Martinsen. High-quality poster sessions highlight some of the most interesting research and new exploration areas within the North Sea, West of Shetland and further afield. Please come along and join us for some interesting and thought provoking technical presentations and posters by leading researchers illustrating the results of their work and the value of collaboration between academia and industry.
