A B O U T S PA R TA TO W N S H I P

Sparta Township is a beautiful residential community of 39 square miles nestled in the Sussex County countryside. Loaded with lakes, rolling hills, and acres of farmland, Sparta offers its 19,000 residents a landscape of natural beauty combined with a wide variety of amenities offered by both the township and the local business community highlighted in this directory. All this within 45 miles of New York City! It is no wonder Sparta has long been a desirable location to live and work in Northwestern New Jersey. Sparta has 11 private lake communities spread throughout the Township. The largest of these is Lake Mohawk, whose Boardwalk and White Deer Plaza are listed on the State and National Historic Registers. Restaurants and a smattering of small shops and offices comprise the plaza and boardwalk area offering residents and visitors a scenic spot to stroll, shop and eat.
