Southern Sunday Football League

Welcome Good morning everybody and welcome to Sutton United Football Club for the first Southern Sunday Football League Cup Final of the season. Today sees the 2 participating teams compete for the George Seymour Cup. I would like to congratulate both teams on reaching today’s final and I wish them both the very best of luck on the day. A special mention must be made about today’s match officials. They all do the league proud by turning out week in, week out and their contribution cannot be underestimated. I hope everybody has an enjoyable afternoon and that the game is played in the right spirit. I also hope that you all make use of the excellent facilities that our hosts have to offer.

Finally, our thanks must go to all of the staff at Sutton United who always make our finals such wonderful occasions. Yours in sport, Colin Fazackerley (SSFL Chairman)

Kew Antigua I

Kew Antigua I

'Antigua' means former in Spanish and so the name Kew Antigua was given to the club when former club Kew Alexandra folded in 2004. With the change of name came a change in league and Kew Antigua were in the Sportsmans League from 2004/5 until 2010/11, picking up a Div 2 and Div 5 title and the Div 4/5 Cup in the space of 4 years (I should add that the club went from one team to three teams during this time).

Neil Silley (Defence) Neil is a long-serving Kew Antigua stalwart who can play anywhere across the back. He times tackles to perfection and brings the ball out of defence excellently. He’s lesser-spotted in the opponent’s half but chips in with important goals. Free Rich Dad, Owed Money by Lloyds and a Shade Greener. Well, that’s what I found on his facebook page.

With the majority of players based on the south side of the river, and the Sportsmans League on the wane, in 2011 the decision was taken to move to the Southern Sunday League. We have been really pleased with the League and we are hoping to enter a third team next season but at Kew Antigua we know that the next hard game is always just around the corner.

Frank Liptak (Defence) They’ll be dancing in the streets of Slovakia if Frank lifts the Cup today. An uncompromising centre back, he certainly brings a bit of Iron Curtain to our back four. He also shoots from the hip on our club website. His first words in English were believed to be ‘In my country we don’t wear shin pads’. Favourite opponents: Westminster Wanderers Reserves

Adam Greenhalgh (Manager) Mr Kew Antigua 2011 will be hoping to get his hands on the club's first trophy for three years. Has been overseeing the Kew Antigua empire for 7 years now so expect him to run the rule over the 3 teams in the SSFL next year unless the QPR board come calling. Also doubles up as Club Sec, Chairman, 6th choice keeper and club mascot.

Tom Stirling (Defence) Tom is a ball-playing centre back who likes nothing more than taking on a few strikers on the edge of our own area. Tom is a good talker and he organises us from the back. He has a big will to win and is one of our biggest critics – a definite Alan Hansen/Mark Lawrenson in the making!

Dave Coles (Goalkeeper) Dave joined Kew Antigua in 2007, after starring as playboy Dezmond Von Nutkins in urban drama Hollyoaks. Part of the Kew Antigua side that won promotion to the top flight of the Sportsmans League in 2007/8 Dave is a staunch member of the Goalkeepers Union and can often be heard applauding the opposition keeper from the other end of the pitch.

Rob Sadler (Defence/Midfield) Rob is a utility player who can slot in anywhere in defence or midfield although is adamant that his best position is in a free role operating behind the strikers. Famed for having once eaten a whole big packet of wine gums by throwing them up in the air and catching them in his mouth and not dropping a single one. He is also currently rocking 9.5/10 on hotornot.com (thanks mum)

Simeon Vambe (Defence) Simeon is a manager’s dream. He’s a great team player who plays anywhere he is asked and adapts brilliantly to the ever changing line-ups at Kew Antigua. He’s also our only international ….. DJ. When he’s not playing football Simeon is spinning discs and causing a stir on the dance floor (Check out http://www.gridrecordings.com/artist/999915/tyke)

Daniel Bennett (Defence/Midfield) Softly spoken but hard in the tackle Daniel is another who can play in defence or midfield. He doesn’t play as much as we would like due to work commitments. Apparently he comes a close second to David Beckham for ‘Rear of the Year’ (according to our female support). His favourite TV programme is Crimewatch.

Kew Antigua I

Kew Antigua I

Seb Palin (Midfield) Kew Antigua FC is Seb's second love behind Foxtons and our intrepid left winger is the scurge of many a right back as well as any unsuspecting landlords or tenants. Seb is getting married in the summer and he's promised to do a stepover up the aisle if we win the Cup today. Scored the all important goal which took us to the semi-finals.

Dan Anderson (Midfield/Forward) Raving right winger whose pre-match preparation consists of a night in a club. Most effective when cutting in from the right, Dan wears shorts when he goes out in case he doesn’t have time to change. He is hoping to perfect his quick change-act in 2012. He is currently vying for the Kew Antigua FC Golden Boot (available on eBay after May 15th 2012).

Issam Abid (Midfield) Issam is a 3rd time cup finalist since joining the Kew revolution. Plays in all positions but favours centre-mid and sees Sunday football as an opportunity for a bit of relief from the day job and to stop him from kicking the cat. Think of him as a hairy Zinedine Zidane. Good in the air and always up for a tackle, his daughter thinks he plays for MacDonalds.

Maurizio Zatti (Forward) Gave up on long hair and Alice bands a long time ago but our Italian front man can still turn it on the edge of the box. Partial to the pasta but don't be deceived by the waist-line. Beneath the cuddly exterior is a real Italian stallion. Kick him hard enough and he'll do one of those fingers-together praying gestures that you see in any Serie A game.

Iteb Abid (Midfield) ‘Would you like a nutmeg with your twenty five yarder?’ Those are the words you might hear from our right sided midfielder who also specialises in dummies, eyebrows and lollipops. More suited to the Copacabana beach than Clapham Common on a wet and windy Sunday really but should still be able to bring a bit of sexy to Sutton.

Tom Augarde (Defender/Midfield) High-flying Tom is our elusive full back. In between attending weddings and falling asleep on night buses he’s a very tidy defender who is also very comfortable on the ball. Hopefully he has time today to fit a few tackles into his busy social schedule. His ideal role would be Hugh Grant in the opening scene of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Luke Hatfield (Midfield) Another of our marauding midfielders Luke likes a good left back. His preferred position is on the right though he may be in an unfamiliar central role today. Luke likes to dabble in extreme sports and will be parachuting into the ground today. Don’t miss his double back-flip goal-scoring celebration. Damian Cooper (Midfield) Much maligned South African midfielder signed in the summer from Sporting Vuvuzela. Damian is more in the Francois Piennear than Steven Piennear mould but he can still change a game with a pin-point pass or exquisite finish. Takes time to get going but write off the old Boer at your peril.

Looking for a team for 2012/13? Kew Antigua FC are looking for players in all positions for 2012/13. Goalkeepers and defenders preferred, Kew Antigua require one or two players in each of their Southern Sunday League teams. We hope to have a team in the Summer League if you would like to join us then. Please contact Adam Greenhalgh on 07777 684138 or at [email protected] for further details.

Westminster Wanderers Reserves John Austin A one-man silent-running midfield engine room, John’s natural athleticism stands contrary to the spirit of Sunday league football. A spectator at the last Wanderers cup final and now at the heart of the team, John's story is true Roy of the Rovers stuff.

Westminster Wanderers Reserves Francis Grove White Newcomer Francis' commitment to the Wanderers saw him embark on a season-long romance with a girl who lived by Tooting Common just to ensure he stopped being late for kick-off. His shooting hints at a past role as a flyhalf, but his ever-improving wing play is potent combination of Gareth Bale and Andy Sinton

Lookalike: Johnnie Jackson Lookalike – Boyd from Neighbours Killian Connolly True to his Irish roots, Killian plays football like a modern-day Paul McGrath – with alcohol coursing through his veins. The former box-to-box midfielder is now a box-based centre half or forward, with his hunger on the pitch matched only by his thirst off it. Lookalike: Ryan Connolly Graeme Elliott The old man of the team, Graeme’s attempts to mask his age with trendy ‘Dre’ headphones may fail but his tireless running suggests a player a decade younger. Terrifying Cruyff turns in defence means Graeme is more often deployed making terrifying short passes in midfield – but all with a mature know-how that keeps everyone calm.

Ben Kelly He may look like he’s wearing an invisible straightjacket when he plays, but Ben’s versatility on the pitch has been invaluable to the team this season. A goal scorer, winger, and midfield battler rolled into one, only an extended loan period in the J-League prevented Ben from holding down a regular place in the starting XI. Lookalike – La Roux James Kerry A new addition to the team, James has made the right wing his home this season. Taking on men at speed and crossing with accuracy make him a rarity at this level, and ensure that James is the only player on the team with a loyal fan base - step forward ‘Mr Wanderers’ George.

Lookalike: Gok Wan Lookalike - Mika John Foster Following an early season crisis of confidence of Jason Lee proportions, England’s Brave John Foster has since led by example with last-ditch tackles, set piece dominance, a psychic skill of calling for his team-mates, and an ability to rise Drogba-like from seemingly career-ending injuries.

Robbie Macrory From free-scoring teenage centre forward to all action non-scoring midfielder and now a static full back with a fear of the opposition's half, this is assistant manager/club statistician Robbie's last game for the Wanderers before a free transfer to an as yet unnamed Argentine side.

Lookalike: Jamie Oliver Lookalike: Pablo Zabaleta

Westminster Wanderers Reserves Sam Macrory A proud gaffer leading the Wanderers to Sutton for the second time, Sam has proven that age is no barrier in the George Seymour Cup. With countless surging runs from full-back, triangular boots which ensure dangerous pitchingwedge crosses, and an impressive ability to head the ball with his eyes closed, this could be Sam’s last chance for glory.

Westminster Wanderers Reserves Tom Overbury Only a nasty run-in with the dentist stopped Tom being an ever-present this season, and - when not being groomed for drinking purposes by Killian - the team's keeper/social media guru is an un-droppable presence with his twofooted kicking and maverick throw outs. Lookalike: Derek Hough

Lookalike: Pat Sharp Steve McCauley All lollipops, pirouettes, and accurate passes on the floor, sweet-footed Steve is probably the Wanderers most cultured player - which means the Sunday league quagmire pitches are his most feared opponent.

Adam Royle If only Sunday football was still played with hobnail boots and footballs that weighed like concrete. A glorious hark back to a sepia-age of no-nonsense number 9s with an unquenchable thirst for real ale, if you want a bonce in the box to head a high ball home then Roylo is your man.

Lookalike: Gordon Ramsay

Lookalike: Lord Addington

James McGrory After literally rewriting the Wanderers' scoring records, this self-styled big personality in the dressing room generously took himself on a pre-season training camp to lose that extra yard of pace. Despite returning with game style which is more Kevin Campbell than Thierry Henry, Jimmy remains the Wanderers’ biggest goal threat.

Taddeo Vendor Dangerous from thirty yards while wearing dangerously tiny designer pants – Taddeo is a truly unique Sunday league talent. Along with his former valet Corrado, he has resisted the offers of so-called big teams to form part of the Wanderers’ legendary Italian duo. Lookalike: Patrick Bateman

Lookalike: Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel Corrado Ninzoli After some mechanical failure earlier this season, the aging Corrado has returned to the team with his unbeatable combination of an anvil-shaped head, vile Italian language, and astonishing patience with mere mortal teammates. His heading ability seems to improve each game beyond an already impeccable standard, a phenomenon some pundits link to his rapidly decreasing follicle count. Lookalike: The Iron Giant/ Nemanja Vidic

Mark Wheeler A long-standing fixture in the Wanderers’ squad, Mark has matured from a talented, petulant young winger to a calming presence on the pitch with a penchant for the spectacular finish. Once the victim of unscrupulous defenders unsettled by his natural ability, Mark has been tutored by Corrado in the art of Italian cynicism, and can now scythe down players when required. Today’s Match Officials Referee: Ron Large Ron lives with Nicky and his 6 year old daughter Paige in Clapham. Before taking up the whistle, Ron played Semi-Professional football. From the age of 20 until he was 25 refereeing became his main association with football. That was until Greenwich Borough came calling as they had a goalkeeping vacancy that they needed to fill. Ron was only happy to oblige and saw his career out in the Kent League. Following retirement, Ron became a grounds man for 10 years before taking up the whistle for a second time 4 years ago. Assistant Referee: Mo Awill Mo is well into his second season as a SSFL referee. Mo lives in Earl’s Court but impressively commutes to and from his matches every Sunday morning. Mo is a level 7 referee and is affiliated to London FA. With the support from the league, Mo would like to continue to learn new skills in refereeing and hopes to progress his career further. Mo is a keen follower of Rotherham United who currently play in Npower League 2. He is an avid fan of Match of the Day and The Football League Show. Assistant Referee: Vladimir Ninkovic Vladimir is Serbian but low lives and works in the UK. He is now into his third season refereeing on the Southern Sunday and his name has become a household one on the weekly fixture list. Vladimir is currently a level 7 referee and is affiliated to London FA. When not refereeing, he is a keen follower of Liverpool FC and he makes the trips to Anfield where possible. He wishes both teams well for the final. 4th Official: Ronnie Robinson Ronnie is a new addition to the SSFL panel in his first season as a referee. Ronnie is a level 7 referee and is affiliated to the AFA. Ronnie has taken up refereeing as he nears the twilight of his playing career in the Southern Amateur League playing for Norsemen FC where he is also Chairman. Originally from Glasgow, Ronnie is a keen Rangers supporter and follows them on most European away matches though sadly there are unlikely to be many trips in the next couple of years! Ronnie is honoured to be selected as fourth official for this morning's final and wishes both teams good luck.
