Mike ended his own digestive disorder as he figured them out. To keep the FDA happy, I have to say “he ended his symptoms” but what is a disease when the signs and symptoms of it are gone? Try these simple techniques and start feeling better fast. Why don’t doctors tell you this? Almost every technique, eating method, and supplement is something Mike discovered through experimentation and research by using himself as the “guinea pig.” In our limited experience with doctors (we try to stay away from them), they are not interested in cures that don’t require prescriptions or surgeries. This is just how it is. Doctors are taught to treat. The following are Mike’s instructions: 1) Which foods can you safely eat right now (the 4-day diet) I call my eating method “Pain Free Foods” which is based on a food combining science I invented: “Catalyst Food avoidance.” If you think you don’t care about all this, trust me you are about to. The term “catalyst foods,” means that there 4

are specific foods, some that can, and some that can’t be eaten together in the same meal. My theory (proven in over 20,000 cases) is that there are “bad” combinations of foods, that when eaten, cause an overproduction of stomach acid, which leads to stomach and intestine damage from acid scaring. To be clear, it is this overproduction of acid that eventually strips away the protective mucosal lining of the digestive tract, inflaming delicate tissues, causing infection, pain, diarrhea, and constipation. Numerous symptoms, all from one cause… too much acid. Right now, I am going to teach you how to eat for 4 days. In 4 days I guarantee that you will start feeling better, feel less or no pain, and your symptoms will start going away. Don’t overthink this! You are going to start getting better, it is not a coincidence. I have helped so many people that I know this works, and in 4 days, so will you. For now, we are just going to prove things to you with a 4-day experiment. For the record, this 4-day experiment is not flexible. You can’t do “most of it.” You will only eat/drink what is listed (of course you can drink water freely). You can’t vary from this, not even “just a bit.” You must be exacting and follow it “to the letter.” If not, you know what they say: “your results will vary.” When I say, “you can’t vary” I mean you can’t add anything (includes coffee, tea, beer, wine, soda etc.). You can delete any ingredient you don’t have or don’t care for.

4-Day Menu

R

egardless of how much food you prepare (or recipe volume), you should only eat meals about the size of your own fist. If you are still hungry, wait 30 to 60 minutes and eat another fist-sized portion of the same meal. You can do this up to three times per meal but don’t proceed to the next meal (for instance breakfast to lunch) until there has been a two to three hour gap without eating. Drink water throughout the day as you want but avoid drinking more than a cup of water during any meal.

Choose any of the breakfast, lunch, or dinner options each day. Note: those of you who are very healthy eaters will see the 4-day plan is probably not up to “your standards.” Step 1 is about getting you well. Step 2, comes later in the main Pain Free Foods book and includes eating as healthy as you want, (fresh and raw if you like), and alkalizing the body. If you start eating fresh and raw now, you are headed for disaster, I promise you. You can pick a different selection for each meal, each day or keep eating the ones you like best. Do not combine two different meal selections in the same sitting… ever. You could be making a “catalyst food” meal that would set you back. There is no meat during this 4-day plan. You will soon be eating meat after the 4 days once you know what “not” to mix with meat. We realize that not everyone cooks. Some barely open a can. There is at least one simple option for every meal for you “bachelor types.” Just scan for something that looks short and easy. These restrictions don’t last long once you are off the 4-day plan. 5

Breakfasts: Cream of Wheat Cream of wheat (cooked in water) with vanilla (or sweetened) almond milk, or rice milk, butter, then your choice: sugar, honey, agave, or a sugar free substitute that you like.

O or O Pancakes or banana pancakes with

butter, maple syrup, and hash browns, Ketchup or salt is fine

O or O Scrambled eggs with or without ¼ cup of cheddar Cheese (you could actually have two or three eggs cooked anyway you like)

O or O A simple scrambled egg recipe: 3 eggs ¼ cup cheddar cheese Salt to taste Whip eggs and cheese in a bowl, scramble on medium heat until cooked. Sprinkle salt to taste. Some sautéed onions and bell peppers are ok if you like.

O or O White bagel, or bread (toast is fine), or English muffin, toasted with butter and jam or jelly.

Lunch: Make any type of Pasta that you like (do NOT use anything filled like ravioli or tortellini) and season with, your choice: butter, Italian seasoning, salt, garlic powder, lemon juice, etc.

O or O Spinach Basil Pesto Pasta: 1 ½ cups baby spinach leaves ¾ cup fresh basil leaves 4 cloves of garlic ¾ tsp. salt ½ tsp. pepper 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice ½ tsp. lemon zest ½ cup extra virgin olive oil ½ box, of wheat pasta. Blend spinach, basil, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice, zest, and 2 tsp. olive oil in a food processor until almost smooth slowly adding the remaining olive oil. Heat and serve over pasta.

O or O Roasted Tomato Soup With Fresh Basil

Prep: 40 minutes. Serves 6 (you can cut the recipe down to serve less) 3 1/2 pounds tomatoes (about 11 medium), halved 1 small onion, quartered 2 cloves garlic, peeled and halved 2 tbsp. olive oil 2 tbsp. fresh thyme leaves 1 tsp. sea salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 12 fresh basil leaves Place tomatoes, onion and garlic in a greased 15x10x1 inch baking pan; drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with thyme, salt and pepper; toss to coat. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until tender, stirring once. Cool slightly. In a blender, process tomato mixture and basil in batches until blended. Transfer to a large saucepan and heat through. Garnish with additional basil if desired.

O or O Angel Hair Zucchini Pasta Serves 1-2

8 ounces cooked angel hair pasta 1 tbsp. crushed garlic 1 tbsp. olive oil 1 zucchini, sliced Sea salt and pepper to taste 12 fresh basil leaves Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8-10 minutes or until tender; drain. Meanwhile, heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Pour in oil and sauté garlic until golden. Stir in zucchini, sea salt and pepper, sauté until tender. Chop basil and add to pan right before mixing with pasta. Combine pasta with vegetables and serve.

Snack: Two hours later if you like: 1 cup of Applesauce of any kind (do not substitute a fresh apple)

O or O 15-20 Ritz TM, Saltine (or similar brand) Crackers

Dinner: Mushroom burger and chips: Hamburger bun Portabella mushroom caps (about the size of a hamburger patty) Garlic powder Olive oil ½ slice of American cheese (like Kraft singles) Choice of: Mayo Mustard Catsup Salt Wash mushroom cap, and while it’s still wet, roll it in white flour and dust it with salt and garlic powder. Place it in 1/8 inch or less of olive oil in the bottom of a 8

frying pan and fry until the flour is golden brown on both sides. Top with desired condiments from the above list. Add any variety of tortilla or potato chip you like.

O or O Cream of Mushroom soup: 1 small can of Campbell’s TM (or similar) Cream of Mushroom soup with up to 10 Ritz TM (or similar) crackers (saltines are ok too)

O or O Pea Soup Serves 2-3

1 cup vegetable stock 5 cups frozen peas 2 oz. scallions, coarsely chopped Salt and pepper Bring the stock to a boil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Reduce heat, add the peas and scallions, and simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool slightly, then strain twice, making sure that you remove any bits of skin. Pour into a large bowl, season with salt and pepper to taste.

O or O Asparagus Crème Soup Serves 3-4

1 1/2 lbs. fresh asparagus 4 tbsp. margarine 6 shallots, or 1 large onion (red or white) diced. 4 1/2 cups vegetable broth 3/4-cup sweetened or vanilla, almond milk. Begin by cutting the tough base of asparagus stalks and throw away. Next divide remaining asparagus into thirds set the heads aside for later. Next in soup pot melt 2tbs butter and sauté onions or shallots for about five minutes on medium heat then add asparagus pieces and fry on low heat for 3 1/2 minutes. Stir in broth and bring to boil, once boiling, reduce and simmer partially covered for 15-20 minutes. Then remove from heat cool and puree mix in food processor until smooth (you may have to do this in batches depending on the capacity of your food processor). Reheat blended soup over low heat. 9

While reheating take remaining butter and melt in small skillet. Sauté asparagus tips until tender, add to main soup blend. Finally, add almond milk and salt and pepper to taste.

2) What do I do if I am so sick I’m afraid to eat at all (the 48-hour rest diet) See chapter 3 below. The way to survive, when you can’t really eat, and the way to avoid an attack or flare-up, happen to be the same “secret formula.” 3) How to stop a pending attack or flare-up in its tracks The best way to stop an attach or flare up is to give your digestive system a complete break: eating no solid food, and drinking only liquids for 48 hours (not any liquid, please keep reading). You should feel “very good,” and hungry before eating solid food again. For the majority of clients 48 hours is long enough. Admittedly we have borrowed some of this diet from the Mayo Clinic diverticulitis diet (yes, also for colitis). The weak spots to the Mayo diet (as it stands, before our changes) include their use of some trigger foods (yogurt) and mucosal stripping ingredients such as soda. Other than those things (don’t worry, we changed them) their diet was one of the best “rest diets” available anywhere in the country.

Liquids you can consume during this 48-hour rest diet: Broth made from vegetables and even a little meat. Don’t boil so long that vegetables like potatoes disintegrate into the broth but boil long enough to get a lot of flavor and nutrients into the broth. You can season your broth but avoid pepper or hot sauce. Pour off (or strain if there is a lot of visible veggie particles) into a bowl or cup and drink a half pint at a time. Do this as often as you like, waiting 20 min or more between servings. Fruit or vegetable juices that are translucent are fine (you can see light passing through when you hold them up). Good examples are apple juice, and cranberry juice, also herbal teas (peppermint is great) and of course, lots of water. Some of your water can have a little lemon juice or low calorie flavor enhancers like Mio or Smart water etc. Don’t put sugar, honey or caloric additives in your water, and drink mostly plain water. Juices that are not acceptable would be juices like tomato, V8 tm, orange juice, or any juice that is dense like a smoothie or green drink. These contain too much solid food to keep your digestive tract “at rest.” Coffee can be added back after the 48-hours but is too acidic to drink during the 48-hour rest period. Volume: We suggest drinking at least a 1.5 quarts of water per day. We suggest 10

drinking less than a pint (a half pint is best) of liquid per time that you drink. Drinking a lot at one time can cause some stomach stress. Space your drinks out by 20 to 40 min or more or just sip on fluids throughout the day. In general we advise against vitamin supplements, but during the 48-hour rest diet, you can take small amounts of vitamins and minerals if you feel the need. Take a half dose of any liquid or pill vitamin, (if you choose to take a vitamin at all), and only take with a juice or broth, never on an empty stomach.

Going back to “normal” food: After the 48-hour rest diet, ease back to normal food slowly. Here are some suggestions: Keep meal sizes to the volume of your own fist. Eat mostly bland, easy to digest foods like the breakfast choices here in this book. Avoid spices other than some salt or herbal seasonings. Proceed to the other food choices once you do a day or so as above as long as there is no reversal of progress or increase of symptoms. 4) “The 7 Trigger Foods of Death” Which foods you should never eat again (you probably eat at least one per day) There are seven foods that are “Catalyst foods” even without being combined with another food. Mike named these “trigger foods” because they can trigger an attack or flare-up all by themselves. One of these foods contains probiotics, and because of that, it is eaten by most digestive disorder patients and recommended by most doctors and medical diets including the Mayo Clinic diet. We estimate that this one food has triggered more attacks than any other single food. Here is the list of seven trigger foods that if you are wise, you will never eat/drink again: 1) Milk: (regardless of type, so “yes” that includes: lactose free, raw, whole, 1%, 2%, skim, organic, goat,), and no cream, no half and half, not even in coffee. If you only like your coffee with creamer, just use one of the fancy store creamers. Believe it or not, those are actually better for you when you have colitis, because milk is so bad for you. 2) Sour Cream: all varieties, flavors, and fat content 3) Cottage Cheese: all varieties, fat percentages, and curd sizes 4) Peanut butter: (actually all nut butters, especially store bought, all brands) 5) Quinoa: a grain often sold in health food stores, and used by millions 6) Nutrition drinks: like “Ensure TM, and Boost TM” and all similar weight gain or weight loss, high nutrition drinks. 11

7) Yogurt: Hands down, the reigning king of causing attacks and flare-ups in millions of people over the years. Yes, it is loaded with probiotics which are good for you but yogurt is a catalyst/trigger food that is unequalled in causing problems with colitis patients and “yes,” we know that your hospital, printed diet, and your doctor, probably said to use it often. Did you also know your doctor has never cured a single colitis patient? That is the entire list. Please take it seriously. Decide right now that these seven foods must be avoided like the plague. This one trick keeps thousands of people out of the emergency room. Some people see the list and say, “oh dairy foods are not allowed,” but it’s not “dairy” that makes a food a trigger food. As an example, cheese is fine as long as it is not mixed with it’s “catalyst food.” Don’t think too much right now. We have done that for you. Please just follow this advice and start getting better. Once you are done with the 4-day experiment, even if you decide never to get the book, do this one thing… never eat one of those 7 foods again and your life will be better. 5) The secret solution to diarrhea For doctors, simple diarrhea is one of the most difficult problems to correct. This is due to the “pills fix everything” mentality many of them have. Diarrhea cannot be corrected by taking a pill (very seldom). Here is a solution that works most of the time for most people and is permanent unless you make the choice that caused it in the first place. Diarrhea is simple and the cause is almost always one or all of the following: destroyed intestinal flora from antibiotic use, bacterial infection, or inflammation in the bowel. Fixing chronic diarrhea takes two to four weeks, but you should see improvement in one week if this method is going to “fix” you and you are doing it properly. Here are the few things you can do even if you don’t know which of the three common causes caused your problem: 1) Start with a 48 hour rest diet (chapter 2) to eliminate inflammation. 2) Then, eat according to the 4-day program in this book or better yet get a copy of Colitis Pain Free Foods and follow that diet. 3) Once your diet is stable (eating the same general foods weekly) begin taking a good quality probiotic daily according to the label directions. 4) Take the natural antibiotic GSE from a company called “Nutribiotic.” This is a mild antibiotic substitute that does not seem to further damage your natural/ beneficial intestinal flora but does destroy anaerobic (the bad type) bacteria. 5) If you tolerate it well you may add some type of fiber supplement when you eat. Some people don’t tolerate fiber well or their doctor may have asked them to avoid extra fiber. If this is the case, follow your doctor’s advice. 6) If you have had diarrhea for more than a few days, start taking an electrolyte supplement such as Pedialyte tm (an infant electrolyte supplement), daily to rebuild your electrolytes to safe levels.

Keep in mind that diarrhea can be severe and even life threatening. You can be dehydrated and fear drinking water (keep drinking water). You can deplete your electrolytes if you have had diarrhea for more than two days (some have it ongoing for many months). Keep your doctor in the loop if you have severe or chronic diarrhea. This protocol may seem daunting but we created this method and have helped thousands of people including many who found no relief with doctors or pharmaceuticals. Give it two to four weeks. It works for most people. 6) The “way back from constipation Constipation can go on for weeks or months and can also be very serious. If you are chronic keep in touch with your doctor. The solution for constipation is nearly identical (not exactly and the differences are important) to diarrhea and the cause may even be exactly the same. One difference is that most people who have constipation are also dehydrated. Dry stool is a classic contributing factor but the main cause is usually damaged intestinal flora from antibiotic use. After a while the bowel muscles also become lethargic and they take a while to recover. Here is the protocol, which we find highly effective. 1) Increase your water (other liquids don’t count as water) to double your current intake, then increase slowly until you are drinking 2 to 3 quarts per day. 2) Start with a 48-hour rest diet (chapter 2) to eliminate inflammation. 3) Then, eat according to the 4-day program in this book or better yet get a copy of Colitis Pain Free Foods and follow that diet. 4) Once your diet is stable (eating the same general foods weekly) begin taking a good quality probiotic daily according to the label directions. 5) Take the natural antibiotic GSE from a company called “Nutribiotic.” This is a mild antibiotic substitute that does not seem to further damage your natural/ beneficial intestinal flora but does destroy anaerobic (the bad type) of bacteria. 7) Is there a natural antibiotic that may help prevent attack/flare-up infections Absolutely. This is mentioned in two earlier chapters. Keep in mind that this is a home remedy level antibiotic substitute and is not a substitute for doctor advised antibiotics. With that said, periodic or in some cases, ongoing use of a product called “GSE” or grapefruit seed extract, which is available at your health food store, will beat down most bugs when prescription level antibiotics are not yet necessary. Furthermore, when used at the first sign of a pending attack or flare-up, GSE has helped hundreds of our clients prevent attacks. Mike’s family uses this product (comes in a drip bottle) by placing a few drops in a drink or capsule and taking it three times per day with food at the first sign of pain or discomfort “down there.”

8) Is there an effective, natural painkiller, or do I just have to keep taking these horrible drugs, painkillers, and steroids Yes, as a matter of fact there is. I am not qualified to talk about prescription meds so I will skip that. What I am very familiar with is what is called NSAID’s or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. These include; aspirin, Tylenol tm, Motrin tm, Excedrin tm, Aleve, and so on. The nasty thing is that the known side effects of all these drugs are nearly identical to the symptoms of having a bad case of colitis. In other words they could be very hard on a colitis patient. A hugely better choice is an herbal medicine called curcumin, or better yet 95% curcuminoid, which is a concentrate of curcumin from the turmeric root. We recommend at least a 450 mg dose of 95% curcuminoid (900 mg is better) one to three times per day. Curcuminoid is a highly anti-inflammatory medicine with many benefits including pain relief, and inflammation reduction or elimination. This category of herb requires a 2 to 4 week commitment to become effective and can be life changing. Mike used this exact herb to wean himself off of Excedrin tm dependency and caffeine rebound headaches. The herb is also an effective mood enhancer and has been shown in clinical trials to be as effective as Prozac as an anti-depressant, anti-anxiety treatment. Note: Drugs such as Prozac are not to be stopped or reduced without doctors’ supervision as dangerous side effects do occur when reducing or stopping their use. Keep your doctor apprised of any such requests you may have and then take his/her advice above any of our suggestions here. 9) How do I end this horrible inflammation and pain in my gut We have two tricks for this problem. The first is a tea that is available online at “colitispainfreefoods.com” or a second herbal (ground, concentrated) turmeric root product (curcuminoid) discussed at length in chapter 8. Mike considers both of these products to be miracle products and they should not be overlooked. Feel free to test us with the 4-day program in this book before deciding to listen to any of our supplement advice. We recommend supplements to help people and because we know they work and speed up the process of getting better, not to sell them to you. 10) What’s Mike’s secret method to end stomach and abdominal bloating fast I give you this method as an educational example only and tell you that it works for me and I believe in it whole-heartedly. With that said, the specific method I use is not appropriate according to the label directions as you will see. If this bothers you or makes you nervous, please don’t try it then complain to me, just don’t try it. Secondly if you have an acid scared throat or small throat (choke easily) from reflux or other cause, I don’t recommend this, as there is a theoretical risk of choking or aggravating your throat. With all that said, this trick has been an incredible source of relief for me, so for educational purposes 14

I will explain it to you. You could also try this method in an alternate way that I will describe shortly. Again, this is my personal method, I am not recommending it for you unless you accept full responsibility and have your doctor’s approval. Scared yet? Peppermint oil can be used to relax acid scared stomach valves. We have a valve at the top and bottom of the stomach. When our stomach is periodically bloated (most colitis patients) from gas pressure, or our meals are stagnant, it may be because these soft tissue valves are “acid damaged” and just don’t open easily anymore. Peppermint oil may help this condition. Here is how I use it (not how you should use it): I take a sip of water and hold it in my open mouth with my head tipped back. I take a pure peppermint essential oil and drip one to five drops into the water in my mouth. I then close my mouth, swish and swallow. I do not breath out through my nose for a minute since this can feel very powerful to the sinuses. That is it. If I have been bloated or have a stagnant meal sitting in my stomach for hours, this is a great technique for me. Usually within minutes I begin belching and within an hour, I begin passing gas the other direction as well. Shortly I feel much better and things return to normal for me. Talking about it is gross, but when you feel like an over-inflated beach ball, you will understand what a relief peppermint oil can be when taken like this. Why am I so paranoid about this method? Because peppermint oil (non capsulated) is labeled “not for internal use.” This means that my method is only for the adventurous or foolish (I am a little of both) but I will not advise you to do this for safety and liability sake. Again, if you choke easily, have reduced throat diameter from acid damage, wheeze, have asthma, swallowing difficulties, or any difficulty breathing, don’t even think about trying this. Likewise if you are older, delicate, or just like to do things the safest way and by the book, please only consider my alternate method below. I told you that I would give you an alternate method, so here it is. This is the ONLY method I recommend: Peppermint oil does come in capsules, which are approved for internal use (as far as I can tell it is the same oil). You can take these capsules which can be effective as long as the capsule itself is not designed to survive it’s trip through the stomach (called enteric) non-enteric capsules are likely to degrade and open inside the stomach, thus reaching the bottom stomach valve. This can be effective to relieve pressure within an hour or two, but probably not so effective to allow belching. Belching is regulated by the stomach’s upper valve, called the esophageal sphincter. I have noticed when using this alternative method that there is still some “peppermint effect” that comes up the throat naturally and therefore it may help the top valve some as well. This method or just sucking on, or chewing up the strongest peppermint candy you can find can be very helpful.
