Hymn 343i

Rorate, caeli Isaiah 45:8; Psalm 19 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and bring forth a Saviour. (Ps.) The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his handiwork. (Bow) Glory be to the Father… (Rise) As it was in the beginning… Drop down, ye heavens…

V. In the Name of the  Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen. Collect for Purity, Summary of the Law Kyrie (Merbecke) Gloria (Old Scottish Chant)

Missal, page 1 Hymn 702 Hymn 739

Collect V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. O Lord God, grant, in the mystery of the incarnation Mary conceived thy Son in her heart before she conceived him in her womb: grant that, as we, thy pilgrim people, rejoice in her patronage, we also may welcome him into our hearts, and so, like her, be made a holy house fit for his eternal dwelling; we ask this through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The Lesson: Isaiah 7:10-14 The Lord spoke to Ahaz, "Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven." But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test." And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a Virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call his Name Immanuel [God is with us]." V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

The Gradual:

Luke 1:46-55 [Magnificat anima mea Dominum]

Chant, William Jacobs (1796-1872)

My soul doth | magnify · the | Lord: and my spirit hath re- | joiced in | God my | Savior. For He | hath re- | garded → the | lowly · ness of | His hand- | maiden. For be- | hold from | henceforth → all gener- | ations · shall | call me | blessèd. For He that is mighty hath | magni · fied | me: and | holy | is His | Name. And His mercy is on | them that | fear Him → throughout | all | ge-ner- | ations. He hath showed strength | with His | arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagi- | na - tion | of their | hearts. He hath put down the mighty | from their | seat, and hath ex- | alted · the | humble · and | meek. He hath filled the |hungry · with | good things, and the rich He hath | sent | empty · a- | way. He re- |membering · His |mercy → hath | holpen · His | ser - vant | Israel, As He promised | to our | forefathers, Abraham | and His | seed for | ever. The Epistle: Galatians 4:4-7 When the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation

Ave Maria Luke 2:28, Numbers 17:8 Alleluia. Alleluia. Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women: Alleluia. The rod of Jesse hath blossomed; a Virgin hath begotten God and Man: God hath restored peace, reconciling in himself the lowest with the highest. Alleluia. The Holy Gospel: St. John 19:25-27 V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. V. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint John. R. Glory be to thee, O Lord. Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. V. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

In place of the usual recessional hymn, the Sacred Liturgy concludes this day on our Patronal Feast with a procession to the outdoor Shrine and the Novena to Our Lady of Walsingham. The Cantor intones the following anthem:

HAIL, O Virgin Theotokos! As thou didst receive the Good News of salvation at Gabriel's appearing and didst by thine own appearing at Walsingham cause the Holy House to be raised up as the everlasting remembrance of that same mystery of salvation, pray that we may ever bear in our souls Jesus whom thou didst bring forth, the Savior of mankind. Amen. The Deacon begins the procession to the Shrine:

V. Let us proceed in peace. R. In the name of Christ. Amen.

The People join the procession behind the Sacred Ministers and Celebrant. The Cantor begins intoning the Litany, and the choir and people respond.
