Société Mondiale du Vin Mid Atlantic Mondiale Weekend Sofitel Hotel, Philadelphia, PA Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24, 2018 Welcome to the Société Mondiale du Vin Mid Atlantic Mondiale Weekend. This 24-hour event is filled with tastings, seminars, a themed Gala Wine Dinner and a Grower Champagne brunch, all designed to heighten your appreciation and education of top wine regions, trends and wine and food pairing. The overall theme of wine events for the weekend place an emphasis on the fantastic wines that are being produced in the United States, and the regions that are producing them. That said, some of the great wines of France will be featured in a few of the events, as you will see in the itinerary of events. The Sofitel Hotel will be our headquarters for this first-time Mid Atlantic Mondiale Event. Nestled between Philadelphia’s French Quarter and picturesque Rittenhouse Square in Center City, the Sofitel Hotel is just steps away from Philadelphia’s premier entertainment, restaurant and cultural district – and moments from the financial district, convention center and historical attractions. The hotel’s unique style starts in its breathtaking lobby, and the eclectic elegance continues in rooms and suites infused with warmth and filled with luxurious amenities.

12:30-1:30pm: Welcome “Rosé Around the World” Reception The perfect welcome to your weekend wine and food experience. After check in, we will greet you with a tasting of three amazing rosés from Austria, Spain and California to prepare your palate and ease you into the following 24 hours of education and enjoyment. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served to pair with these lovely wines. Cost: $25 per person Location: Sofitel Hotel, Paris Foyer on the 2nd floor Casual business attire and ribbons

Seminar 1: 1:45-3:00pm “Emerging Regions in the United States… from a Winemaker’s Perspective” With so much attention paid to the traditional grape growing regions such as Napa Valley, Russian River Valley, Willamette Valley and Columbia Valley, we will explore and highlight grape growing regions that have emerged in the last five years, both from a quality and a quantity standpoint. Mike Beneduce, owner/winemaker of Beneduce Vineyards in Pittstown, NJ and Vice Echanson of the Garden State Bailliage, will take you through emerging regions and wines on both the west and east coasts of the U.S.: Walla Walla Valley in Washington, Paso Robles and Sonoma Coast in California, Finger Lakes in New York and New Jersey. Seminar 2: 3:15-4:30pm “Exploring Chardonnay from California and Burgundy…Wines Defined by Terroir and Viticulture” Chardonnay is universally regarded as one of the great noble white varietals of the world, often referred to as the “red wine of whites” because of its complexity, ability to age and ability to be enhanced by barrel fermentation. In this unique seminar and tasting, George Staikos, Echanson Provincial de MidAtlantic and Professor of Wine at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, will explore Chardonnay from the two top areas in California and Burgundy: Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Meursault and Chablis. We will taste the wines blind and determine, without the benefit of knowing in advance, how terroir and winemaking contribute to the uniqueness of each region and how they compare stylistically. 6:00pm: Gala Reception and “Best of the U.S.” Wine Dinner This signature event will feature five courses highlighting and showcasing the five top wine producing states in the United States (California, Oregon, Washington, New York and New Jersey) while featuring their most notable varietal. You will experience and taste smaller, luxury, family owned and produced wines that truly reflect their terroir and varietal character at the highest level. Chef has created a beautiful seasonal tasting menu designed to enhance these lovely wines and make for a memorable wine and food experience, Mondiale style! Sunday, June 24 9:15am: Mid Atlantic Echanson Meeting The Echanson Provincial de Mid-Atlantic and Vice Echansons from area bailliages will gather and hear of recent developments and initiatives of the Mondiale, report on activities in their regions and plan for the future. 10:30am: Mondiale “Grower Champagne Farewell Brunch” Before returning home after a day of fantastic wine, food, education and Mondiale camaraderie, enjoy a lovely brunch at the Sofitel. Accompanied by a wide array of breakfast and savory brunch items will be three delicious Grower Champagnes. You will have the opportunity to taste each and enjoy their unique style and terroir.
