Smithfield Girls Softball League
Welcome to the 2013 Friendship Tournament! The Smithfield Girls Softball League would like to welcome everyone to our Annual Friendship Tournament. We are thrilled to have teams from all over Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. Our league is very proud of the reputation we have gained over the years. Since our first “Pre-States” tournament in 1985, out tournaments have expanded and are considered amongst the best tournament events in the northeast. Smithfield looks to show our hospitality to all so come visit our concession stand and be part of a true summertime tradition. Directions to the Whipple Softball Complex
295 North/South to exit 7A (Route 44 East- Centerdale) Left at 1st light, Esmond St. (There is a Hess station on the corner). Take Esmond St: go thru 1 stop sign to the end (under a mile). Go left at end of Esmond St. and take 1st very quick right onto Whitman Ave. Take Whitman a few hundred yards and bear right onto Fenwood Ave. (will be a small weird intersection). Take Fenwood a ¼ mile. Whipple Field complex is on your left just after 1st stop sign on Fenwood. or
From 295 North or South, take exit 8A to Rte 7 South (North Providence). Travel south on Rte 7 for about 1 ½ miles until you reach the second traffic light (Whipple Road). Take a right on to Whipple road and follow it to the end (about ¾ mile). You will see the complex to the right as you reach the stop sign. Take a right on to Fenwood Ave and an immediate left into the Whipple complex. Parking may be tight, so plan to arrive a few minutes early.
Directions to LaPerche Elementary School
From 295 North or South, take exit 8A to Rte 7 South (North Providence). Travel south on Rte 7 for ¼ - ½ mile and take a right at the first traffic light (Limerock Road). The entrance to LaPerche School will be about ¼ mile on the left. (There’s a school crossing sign on the right, directly across from the driveway). If you miss the entrance, go to the end of Limerock and take a left on to Ridge Road. There will be another entrance about 100 yards on the left on Ridge.
Directions from LaPerche School to the Whipple Complex
As you exit LaPerche, take a right back on to Limerock Road. At the traffic light, take a right to get back on Rte 7 South. Travel south on Rte 7 for about 1 ¼ miles until you reach your first traffic light (Whipple Road). Take a right on to Whipple road and follow it to the end (about ¾ mile). You will see the complex to the right as you reach the stop sign. Take a right on to Fenwood Ave and an immediate left into the Whipple complex.
Parking may be tight, so plan to arrive a few minutes early.
Directions to Smithfield High School
From Route 295 North or South, take exit 7B (Smithfield) to Route 44 West. Travel west on Route 44 and take a right at the fourth light to Route 5 North (Cedar Swamp Road) Follow Cedar Swamp Road to the end (about a mile). Turn left on to Route 116 (also known as Pleasant View Avenue here). The entrance to the high school will be about ¼ mile on the right (right before the track). The field is in back, just beyond the high school. Directions from the High School to the Whipple Complex
Head out to the main road (Route 116; Pleasant View Avenue). You will take a left to head south on Route 116. Continue south for about 1 ½ miles until you reach the traffic light at the end of the road. Take a left to Route 104 South (Farnum Pike). Continue south on Route 104 for about 1 ¾ miles, where you will take a left on to St. Michael’s Way (St. Michael’s Church is on the right, across from this turn). Proceed through four stop signs (the road will bend somewhat and change names) and you will take a right at the fifth stop sign (Cross Street). The Whipple complex is located on the right side, about 300 yards ahead, just before the next stop sign.
