Infrastructure - TEN-T - Extending the networks beyond the EU 1. Motorways of the Seas: to link the Baltic, Barents, Atlantic (including Outermost Regions of Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira), Mediterranean, Black and the Caspian Sea areas as well as the littoral countries within the sea areas and with an extension through the Suez Canal towards the Red Sea; 2. Northern axis: to connect the northern EU with Norway to the north and with Belarus and Russia to the east. A connection to the Barents region linking Norway through Sweden and Finland with Russia is also foreseen; 3. Central axis: to link the centre of the EU to Ukraine and the Black Sea and through an inland waterway connection to the Caspian Sea. A direct connection from Ukraine to the Trans-Siberian railway and a link from the Don/Volga inland waterway to the Baltic Sea are also included; 4. South Eastern axis: to link the EU with the Balkans and Turkey and further with the Southern Caucasus and the Caspian Sea as well as with the Middle East up to Egypt and the Red Sea; 5. South Western axis: to connect the south-western EU with Switzerland and Morocco, including the trans-Maghrebian link connecting Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and its extension to Egypt.

EU TRANSPORT POLITICS REGULATION (EU) No 913/2010 concerning a European rail network for competitive freight REGULATION (EU) No 1316/2013 establishing the Connecting Europe Facility, amending Reg. (EU) No 913/2010 Article 4&5 - Criteria for further freight corridors (a) the crossing by the freight corridor of the territory of at least three Member States, or of two Member States if the distance between the terminals served by the freight corridor is greater than 500 km; (b) the consistency of the freight corridor with the TEN-T, the ERTMS corridors and/or the corridors defined by RNE; (c) the integration of TEN-T priority projects into the freight corridor; (d) the balance between the socio-economic costs and benefits stemming from the establishment of the freight corridor; (e) the consistency of all of the freight corridors proposed by the Member States in order to set up a European rail network for competitive freight; (f) the development of rail freight traffic and major trade flows and goods traffic along the freight corridor; (g) if appropriate, better interconnections between Member States and European third countries; (h) the interest of the applicants in the freight corridor; (i) the existence of good interconnections with other modes of transport, in particular due to an adequate network of terminals, including in maritime and inland ports.

EU Strategy for the Danube Region - Priority Area 1B – Rail – Road - Air TARGETS The Priority Area 1b Steering Group amended these three exemplary targets so that the final wordings of exemplary targets for EUSDR Priority Area 1b are as follows: -… – … possible inclusion of a new corridor with added value of linking together the EU and non-EU member states' railway systems; – Development of efficient multimodal terminals at Danube river ports and dry ports to connect inland waterways with rail and road and air transport by 2020.

ACTIONS Action (1) - “To bring to completion the TEN-T (rail and road) Priority Projects crossing the Danube Region, overcoming the difficulties and the bottlenecks including environmental, economic and political, particularly in the cross-border sections”. Action (2) - “To implement the Rail Freight Corridors forming part of the European rail network for competitive freight”.

Action (4) - “To ensure sustainable metropolitan transport systems and mobility”. Action (5) - “To improve the regional/ local cross-border infrastructure and the access to rural areas”. Action (6) - “To develop further nodal planning for multimodality”. Action (7) - “To develop further Intelligent Traffic Systems by using environmental friendly technologies, especially in urban regions”.
