Level One provides a broad overview of the subject, with the emphasis on acquiring key skills in performing, composing, evaluating and writing about music. (120 credits in a year). C indicates compulsory module. Other modules may be replaced with up to 40 credits drawn from outside the Music Department. (95% take-up the full 120 credits). Dual honours students take 60 credits. Modules continue to be delivered to Level II and III together. (L1 – pass, L2 : L3 = 1: 2)
Level Three allows you to specialise further in chosen areas – original composition, solo performance, dissertation on a chosen topic, sound recording portfolio – (BMus) up to two can be taken as a double option worth forty credits.
For example: Double recital (40), Single Dissertation (20) + 3 modules Single recital (20), Single Dissertation (20), Single Composition (20) + 3 modules Double Composition (40), Single Dissertation (20), Single Sound Recording Portfolio (20) + 2 modules For BMus students these options must account for 40, 60 or 80 credits; for BA students they account for 20, 40 or 60 credits.
