t has certainly been a year of firsts and with so many highlights, it’s hard to mention them all.

OUR FAMILY

For us the focus has always been on our family - our clients and our wonderful employees, both whom without we would certainly not be where we are today - the leading CO2 laser machine supplier in SA since 2007.

OUR CONTRIBUTION So we have proven ourselves in the market through our quality products and high standard of after sale service - what is next? We asked ourselves - what can we do to make sure our clients get an edge over their competitors?

How can we help them to be successful? The answer came in what has now been launched as SMARTnavigator® . We wanted to offer our clients, not just new operating software, but an all in one business solution. An integral part of SMARTnavigator ® is the online shop with phase one, the supply store, already launched. ARE YOU ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS?

Making sure you buy the right equipment from the right supplier can make the difference between obtaining, gaining or losing market share. When comparing initial purchase cost, a possible loss in earnings due to unreliable back-up support, should be kept in mind.

REFERENCES?

Running costs such as tube and other part replacements, including labour and call out fees, should be considered as well as electricity consumption.

Ensure that the company can give you at least five testimonials from their clients (also from clients outside their warranty period) and go online to search customer reviews on sites such as Hellopeter.com.

2 HIDDEN EXTRAS? Is the machine a complete unit or do you need extra climate control or ventilation systems? Is installation and training included in the purchase price? Costs, terms and conditions should be transparent.

3 WARRANTY? Labour and call out fees not covered by the warranty, could add to unplanned expenses. Also, are you directly buying from the holder of the warranty or is it held by an overseas supplier? Finding out who has the decision making power is essential as it may influence support response time and your pocket.

4 MATERIALS TO BE CUT? Cutting plastics such as ABS and PVC may result in your warranty being voided with certain brands of machines due to the type of tubes they are fitted with. Make sure your laser machine meets your requirements.

7 CAN YOU BOOK A DEMO? Online videos and telephonic promises can be misleading. Visiting a company at their premises is vital to ensure there is more to the brand than simple online window dressing via a fancy website.

8 SUPPORT RESPONSE? How long will you have to wait for assistance in your specific area and does the company always have parts in stock or will you experience a prolonged downtime? Is the local company able to provide you with immediate assistance or will the parts be sent for repairs elsewhere?

9 TRAINING? Adequate operating training will ensure the optimisation of your laser machine. Making sure that a laser machine supplier provides sufficient training is very important. Design training and specialised training for specific materials, is essential.

WHAT ARE YOU SELLING? PRODUCTS vs SERVICES The revenue stream for your Laser Cutting business will fall under two big umbrellas, products and/or services.

PRODUCTS

Focusing on a theme within complimenting industries, is the key to success. While doing everything with the laser is certainly possible, your brand’s identity and marketing will probably suffer. People should not be wondering what it is you do and to simply advertise “laser cutting” is not effective as most people do not even understand the capabilities of a laser. You have to tell them what you make, not necessarily how.

Services include charging for your time and expertise. A common laser service is design work. This includes designing a custom product from scratch. It also includes converting images to formats that the laser can engrave with high quality.

A

s a discipline, architecture falls in the realm of creativity. It has its roots both in the arts and science. It demands a love for precision, geometry and order. And when it comes to precision, you don’t have to look further than an SA Argus Laser Machine. What a tremendous honour to have been chosen as the preferred equipment supplier of such a prestige institution, playing a small part in shaping the minds of the future generation.

SA Argus Machine Nr 401 found it’s new home in the model building room, which is accessible to the students for various projects at a minimal cost. Prior to the purchasing of the laser machine, models were often built by hand or outsourced. Although the department bought its first laser machine in 2009 already, the running cost and availability of parts became a huge challenge, as is often the case with imported machines. SA Argus, being the only local manufacturer of CO2 laser equipment in SA, therefore became the obvious choice. We welcome the university to our laser family and look forward to installing more machines at other educational facilities in the country.

Beste Larry Na die besoek van Andre kan ons nie anders nie as om julle weereens te loof vir julle uitstekende diens. Dit is so gerusstellend om te weet dat ons besigheid die heel beste ondersteuning het wat ons op kan hoop. Nie alleen het Andre ons probleem vinnig geidentifiseer en herstel nie maar ook ons nuwe masjien tot sy optimum gestel.
