Established in 1913 in Bremen, Germany, Battermann & Tillery has maintained the tradition of independent surveyors. To this day, we continue to offer our services to global insurance markets and the transportation industry. Now in its fourth generation, our family business continues to develop and grow. Particularly, the recent decades have been marked by steady growth. We currently operate 30 branch offices in five countries as well as a global network of surveyors through

our sister company Battermann & Tillery Global Marine. Thus, we are available wherever our expert advice and services are needed and valued. Battermann & Tillery is available to receive your survey instructions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After receiving the instructions at our headquarters in Bremen, we immediately begin organising the survey. All necessary steps are taken to ensure that the most qualified Battermann & Tillery surveyor for the goods in question can start working on your behalf as quickly as possible. A special team of experts attends to quality assurance in a centralised manner in order to maintain and preserve our quality standards which we apply to each and every survey report. Quality assurance is managed by experienced Sworn Surveyors. Thus, every single report from the network of branch offices is reviewed, checked and archived in Bremen based on the dual control principle. This kind of quality control guarantees consistently high quality for our clients as well as a coherent image.

Our Surveyors and Colleagues – an Established Team Due to the large network of our own staff surveyors, we have a unique in-house pool of knowledge at our disposal. In most cases, our experts and cargo surveyors are graduate engineers in the fields of transportation, traffic engineering, mechanical engineering or master mariners. Additional specialists in our team of experts include lawyers, forwarding specialists, graduates with business administration degrees and marine insurance specialists.

Currently, many of our surveyors are officially appointed Sworn Surveyors registered with the respective German Chambers of Commerce. Our staff includes sworn cargo surveyors and sworn marine surveyors. Therefore, we can offer you the perfect team of experts for each assignment.

While Battermann & Tillery and its subsidiaries mainly focus on surveying cargo damage and transport loss from currently 30 locations in Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, and Turkey, Battermann & Tillery Global Marine carries out the worldwide coordination of surveys conducted by our partners as well as marine surveys.

Worldwide Survey Coordination From our head office in Bremen, we coordinate surveys on behalf of our Principals on a worldwide scale. Battermann & Tillery Global Marine has its own worldwide network of trusted marine surveyors and average agents. Together with our partners, we offer services at 572 locations worldwide and on all continents. In our international department, a team of experts is at your service. Their fields of expertise include machinery, foodstuffs, household goods and personal effects, load and stow surveys, packaging, commodities, transport accidents and many more.

International subsidiaries Our specialists provide competent technical assistance to the local surveyors in the course of claims handling in order to ensure high-quality damage assessment and lossminimisation. We constantly monitor the quality and report regularly to our Principals. Due to our strong position on the market we are able, in many cases, to directly pass on reduced rates to our Principals. Following the inspection, the survey report is issued in German and / or English in the standard Battermann & Tillery quality which our clients have come to expect.
