Silver Spray Angling Holidays 2014 Cherbourg and Alderney trips are a real Angling holiday. It’s a great way to enjoy the best boat angling that the UK has to offer. Our anglers really enjoy their evenings as well with a range of bars and restaurants for a pint, good food and of course plenty of fishy stories. Both Alderney and Cherbourg are about 60miles from Poole - Alderney is famous for its banks which hold superb flatfish while Cherbourg has many almost un-fished wrecks. Poole

On the way over we usually focus on wreck fishing with live baiting for large pollack, lure fishing for cod and we have a spell at anchor for congers and ling (all fish pictures are from 2013!)

The middle day of a Cherbourg trip is spent fishing within 20 miles of the port. The short travelling time means that there is plenty of time to explore the multitude of war time wrecks that hold cod in May and June, bass from July to October, large bream in September and plenty of congers, ling and tope.

In Cherbourg we stay in the Hotel du Louvre which is very clean and comfortable and the staff speak reasonable English. The hotel is only 5 mins walk from the marina and within 10 mins of the hotel there are plenty of restaurants and takeaway food joints to suit every pocket. The middle two days of Alderney trips focus on fishing around the island. The turbot and brill fishing are usually very good - in 2012 we had over 80 in one day! Best months for “flats” are April , May, September and October. On the final day we tend to head up the coast and fish off Cherbourg.

We arrange a nice B&B on Alderney; it’s over the tackle shop and is hosted by Mark and Fiona Harding. There are a limited number of single rooms but the norm is to bunk down with your mates. The evening entertainment usually consists of a few beers and a good meal. BOOKING: We require a deposit of £100 per space booked at the time of booking by credit or debit card. Your card will be used to guarantee your trip and also for your party. Please see our terms and condition of booking in case you have to cancel for whatever reason. £50 is for Silver Spray and is refundable in the event of cancellation, £50 is for the B&B and is nonrefundable. Please also tell us when you book if you need a single room. If you wish to pay the balance of the boat by card please call us before the trip or pay the balance of your trip in cash on day 1. Keeping fish We’ll provide ice and icey-tek boxes to keep your fillets fresh. Please bring bags to take your fish to your car – please leave boxes in car. Tackle You will need just two rods:  For pollack, cod, bass and bream fishing a 12-20lb class softish action rod with a medium size multiplier with ~30lb braid (essential because of strong tides)  For anchoring for conger and ling fishing a 30lb class rod with a medium multiplier with ~50lb braid End gear:  For pollacking - zip sliders, snap swivels, 40lb trace mono and a section of redgills (6”), storm shads, savage lures and sidewinders. Colours orange, red, pink, white blue rhubarb and custard - especially rhubarb and custard 6” sidewinders  For conger and ling zip slider, snap swivel swivel, 4’ 200lb trace mono, 8/0 hook  Beads, swivels and snaps for making rock hopper/portland rigs together with 25lb, 40lb mono  Feathers and a paternoster bream rig 2/0 hooks  Hooks for live baiting mackerel 4/0 kamansan or medium trebles If this is not clear we will show you how to rig up. Most anglers tend to walk down on day’s 2/3 but get the taxi up in the evening (makes sense really) There are a number of good places to eat on Alderney. Especially recommended is the Marais Hall Pub 01481 822683 for fish soup, garlic crab claws, huge steaks and all the usual pub food dishes. Best to book to get a space in the small restaurant area. Lunches can be ordered from your landlady. They can also be obtained in the town but check opening times.
