Laptops & Towers

Overview Sig-Stations are high-performance PC workstations designed specifically for integrating Signatec/GaGe advanced instruments and maximizing their operational performance. These systems incorporate the latest in PCbased technology and utilize workstation/server class motherboards with multiple PCI Express (PCIe) bus interface options. The multiple dedicated peer design of the PCIe buses ensure that the maximum data transfer rate is achieved for multiple Signatec/GaGe instrument board operations by reducing the number of devices competing for a bus’s shared bandwidth.

PCIe Expansion Enclosures

Rackmounts

Sig-Station systems also feature drive bay enclosures that provide the option to include integrated Data Storage Systems (DSS) that are specifically tailored for real-time data streaming recording applications that require a guaranteed continuous transfer rate with no missing data. Sustained data transfer rates and storage capacity are scalable, with sustained transfer rates up to 3.4 GB/s and storage capacity up to 192 TB. Sig-Station systems come with all Signatec/GaGe boards, features, and software fully tested and installed so that the user can be up and running with their system solution right out of the box. Custom system configurations can also be defined to meet specific customer applications or requirements.

High-Performance I/O Expansion PCIe based I/O boards with physical smaller lane interfaces (x1 or x4) are compatible with larger PCIe slots (x8 or x16), but not vice-versa.

PCI Express (PCIe) Interface The PCIe interface supports the highest data transfer rate speeds possible for advanced Signatec/GaGe instrumentation boards. Careful attention should be noted with a system motherboard model in regards to the planned installation of PCIe I/O boards in order to achieve maximum performance for the system. In general, it is best to take note of the following:  

When PCIe boards with smaller lane interfaces (x1 or x4) or installed into larger PCIe slots (x8 or x16), these boards will still operate at their native maximum interface rate (x1 or x4) within the larger lane slots. There are no transfer rate speed advantages of installing smaller lane interface PCIe boards into larger PCIe lane slots.

PCIe I/O Slots

Number and type of PCIe I/O slots available Number of “dedicated” vs. “shared” PCIe I/O slots

Be sure to select a motherboard model option that has the proper number and type of PCIe I/O slots available to meet the planned number of boards with their specific maximum interface types that are to be integrated into the system. Take note of PCIe I/O slots that have “dedicated” vs. “shared” bandwidth connections: PCIe boards installed into “shared” bandwidth slots will operate at reduced maximum transfer rates as each board must share the available bandwidth connection to the system. “Shared” bandwidth slots are typically found in desktop class motherboards where the amount of PCIe lane resources is limited.

Motherboards may also implement larger “mechanical” based PCIe slot form factors that natively operate at lower “electrical” based PCIe rates. For example, a PCIe x16 “mechanical” slot may only operate at a maximum x8 or x4 “electrical” rate. The purpose of implementing larger “mechanical” based form factor slots is to physically support more PCIe boards with larger PCIe interfaces within a system. However, the larger PCIe interface board’s maximum transfer rate will be limited to the maximum “electrical” rated transfer rate of the “mechanical” slot in these instances. Each generation of the PCIe interface specification has doubled the maximum data transfer rate speed of the prior generation, while fully maintaining backward compatibility. There are no transfer rate speed advantages of installing previous generation PCIe I/O boards into a newer generation PCIe slot, as the transfer rate speed will default to the board’s maximum PCIe interface rate capability. The current generation PCIe 3.0 specification has a maximum bidirectional 16 GB/s data transfer rate speed for a fully dedicated electrical x16 slot configuration.

PCIe I/O slots that have “dedicated” connections to the system do not share their bandwidth with any other slot and thus guarantee the maximum transfer rate possible for the installed PCIe board. Workstation/server class motherboards typically provide more “dedicated” PCIe I/O slots with faster interface rates as these platforms provide a greater amount of PCIe lane resources. Each “lane” of a PCIe connection contains transmit and receive pair of differential lines that form two serial channels; capable of transporting data packets in both directions simultaneously between device link endpoints.

PCIe Lane

Packets of data move across the lane at a rate of one bit per cycle. A PCIe x1 lane connection, the smallest sized connection, has one lane made up of four wires. It carries one bit per cycle in each direction. A PCIe x4 lane transmits four bits, and so on.

Sig-Stations utilize workstation/server class motherboards to provide dedicated PCIe Gen3 slots for maximizing the data throughput performance of multiple Signatec/GaGe digitizers, signal processing, and arbitrary waveform generator boards; in addition to graphics cards, high-speed RAID cards, and high-performance computing cards.

High-Performance Platforms Intel Xeon CPU Platforms Sig-Stations utilize workstation/server class Intel Xeon CPU platforms to provide high-performance computing capabilities with larger system memory capacity and greater amount of PCIe 3.0 lane resources than what typical desktop class platforms can provide. This is critically important for signal technology based realtime applications that require high-speed capture of high dynamic range data, optionally perform signal processing routines on the data, record the data for long sustained time durations, and generate or playback recorded data. For these types of real-time applications, it is essential to maximize the performance of sustained data transfer rates throughout the entire system platform; to and from highspeed I/O instrumentation boards, system memory and processing, and high-speed data storage systems. Single socket CPU platforms based on the current Intel Xeon E5-1600 V2 Series provides for up to 6-Cores at up to 3.7 GHz per core. Intel Hyper-Threading technology delivers two processing threads per physical core, thus providing for up to 12 total threads on this platform. Highly threaded applications can get more work done in parallel to complete tasks faster.

Dual socket CPU platforms based on the current Intel Xeon E5-2600 V2 Series provides for up to 24-Cores total at up to 2.7 GHz per core and a total of 48 threads. A single core on each 12-Core CPU can be dynamically turbo boosted up to 3.5 GHz. Lower core count dual-socket CPU model options also include higher CPU frequencies per core at up to 3.5 GHz and higher single-core turbo boost frequencies up to 4.0 GHz. This dual socket CPU platform provides four memory channels that support up to DDR3 1866 MHz per channel per CPU. The maximum memory bandwidth between system memory and the CPU is 59.7 GB/s per CPU and the platform can support up to a maximum of 1 TB of system RAM. Each CPU is interconnected with two Intel Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) links providing high-speed point-to-point connections at up to 8.0 GT/s per link. The dual socket E5-2600 V2 Series CPUs provides up to 80 PCIe 3.0 dedicated lanes for I/O expansion. As the PCIe 3.0 lanes are integrated directly onto the processor die, it is required to populate both CPU sockets to fully utilize all PCIe 3.0 lanes in addition to utilizing all system memory banks.

Applications that are still single threaded based, can take advantage of Intel Turbo Boost technology in which a single core can be dynamically boosted up to a maximum of 4 GHz. This platform provides four memory channels that support up to DDR3 1866 MHz per channel. The maximum memory bandwidth between system memory and the CPU is 59.7 GB/s and the platform can support up to a maximum of 512 GB of system RAM. The E5-1600 V2 Series CPU also provides up to 40 PCIe 3.0 dedicated lanes for I/O expansion. These PCIe 3.0 lanes are integrated directly onto the processor die to reduce I/O latency by up to 30% and providing up to twice the bandwidth of PCIe 2.0.

Intel Xeon E5-2600 V2 Series Dual CPU Socket Platform

These workstation/server class Intel Xeon CPU platforms with high performance CPU core counts and high-speed interconnections to system memory and PCIe I/O expansion provide the ability to create real-time data acquisition and signal processing systems. The processing power of these platforms can even be further enhanced with support for integration of Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor series or NVIDIA Tesla GPU series of highperformance computing boards.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems Signal Data Recorder Applications Sig-Stations provide the option to include integrated Data Storage Systems (DSS) that are specifically tailored for realtime wideband signal recording or signal playback applications that require a guaranteed continuous sustained data streaming rate with no missing data. The following block diagram is an example of a Signatec 2.8 GB/s Wideband Continuous Signal Recorder comprised of Signatec digitizers and an integrated RAID drive storage array contained within a single chassis. The system is supplied with complete Signatec programs and example applications for performing high-speed sustained data recordings with the selected Signatec products installed in the system. This system continuously records signal data at up to 2.8 GigaBytes per second sustained through the PC to drive storage without any break in the analog record in a Windows based environment and is frequently used in advanced SIGINT, RADAR and medical imaging applications. Additional FPGA DSP and Arbitrary Waveform Generator instruments can optionally be added to the system, thus effectively converting the PC into a real-time signal acquisition, processing, recorder and playback solution.

All of the digitizer’s A/D board onboard memory is configured to work as a FIFO, which provides ample data buffering between the A/D board and the host PC for the most demanding signal data recording applications. Even when performing segmented acquisitions, where there are gaps in the signal record between acquisitions, PCIe Buffered Acquisition mode will allow for a much higher total throughput than standard acquisition instruments due to being able to acquire and transfer data simultaneously. The signal data is transferred efficiently through the digitizer PCIe interface to the host PC system RAM using DMA transfer mechanisms. On the host PC side, when recording, multiple buffers in system RAM are used as circular buffers. While a write to disk is taking place after a DMA transfer completes, another DMA transfer is happening to a separate buffer. It is the combined use of the digitizer card’s PCIe Buffered Acquisition mode, with onboard RAM operating as a FIFO buffer, and efficient high-speed DMA transfers to multiple circular system RAM buffers that make it possible to achieve high performance real-time sustained signal data streaming operations within a non-real-time operating system such as Windows. The digitizer cards will only DMA transfer data to the system if the PCIe interface tells it that it can receive data, so data overflow will NOT occur at the PCIe interface. If the host PCIe interface can’t receive data at a particular time, due to some host system activity, new acquisition data is accumulated in the onboard RAM of the digitizer card that is operating as a FIFO buffer. In the event that the onboard digitizer RAM completely fills up, an acquisition FIFO overflow occurs that is caught and flagged as an error. This type of FIFO overflow error condition is usually a result of the underlying host PC system and/or integrated storage system performance capabilities not being adequate enough to support the application’s targeted highspeed sustained data rates.

In this signal recording system example, Signatec advanced data acquisition PCIe digitizers are first integrated into the system and are used to acquire signal data to the A/D board channels. The digitizers can be linked together to synchronize the acquisitions and streaming of multiple channels across boards.

Sig-Stations with integrated high-speed data storage systems are pre-characterized and profiled for their performance capabilities in terms of their maximized sustained data rates for the entire system platform; to and from high-speed I/O instrumentation boards, system memory and processing, and data storage.

Signatec digitizers feature a unique technology called PCIe Buffered Acquisition Mode. In PCIe Buffered Acquisition mode, the digitizers are able to acquire data to their onboard RAM as well as transfer the data from the onboard RAM to the PC simultaneously at high-speed rates by interleaving write and read data packets.

All Signatec digitizer cards include data streaming capabilities and a GUI Windows based Scope Application software that includes built-in ready support for conducting data streaming recoding operations and for displaying previously recorded data files, with full source code provided for the Scope Application software, all at no additional charge.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems Application Data Rate & Storage Calculations The performance and amount of data storage required for a system ultimately depends on the intended application and its requirements. Signal data recording systems typically utilize digitizers that operate in one of the following data acquisition modes:  

Triggered or Pulsed Data Capture Continuous or Gap-Free Data Capture

In a triggered or pulsed data capture acquisition mode, sampled data is collected in segments. The trigger source is clocked at a fixed frequency or the trigger source can be the data itself. Use the following formula to calculate the data rate for the triggered or pulsed capture: Data Rate = (Pulse Repetition Frequency or Trigger Frequency) * (Number of Samples per Segment) * (Number of Channels) * (Number of Bytes per Sample for A/D Resolution) For example: (30 kHz PRF) * (5,000 Samples per Segment) * (2 Channels) * (2 Bytes per Sample for 14-bit Resolution Data) = 600 MB/s Data Rate In order to guarantee that no data is missed when recording in this mode, it is critical that the digitizer trigger re-arm time (or trigger dead time) – the minimum time after the last data sample in which a new trigger is recognized – is less than the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) rate of the application. Use the following formula to check for acquisition rate and Trigger Re-Arm Time (TRT) limits: 1 / PRF > (1 / Sample Rate * Samples per Segment) + TRT For example: 1 / 30 kHz > (1 / 1 GS/s * 5,000 Samples per Segment) + 1µs TRT 33.3 µs > 6 µs In this case, the check is OK as our calculated 6 µs acquisition rate and Trigger Re-Arm time is less than the applications calculated 33.3 µs time; meaning that our digitizer will be capable of acquiring a segment of data and re-arm in time to be ready before the next data trigger event will occur ensuring that no data will be missed.

In a continuous or gap-free data capture acquisition mode, all of the sampled data is continuously acquired and recorded. Use the following formula to calculate the data rate for the continuous or gap-free data capture: Data Rate = (Digitizer Sample Rate) * (Number of Channels) * (Number of Bytes per Sample for A/D Resolution) For example: (350 Mega-Samples per Second) * (2 channels) * (2 Bytes per Sample for 14-bit Resolution Data) = 1,400 MB/s (1.4 GB/s) Data Rate Once the data rate calculation is known for either intended acquisition mode of operation (triggered/pulsed data capture or continuous/gap-free data capture), use the following formula to calculate the amount of data storage capacity required for the maximum time duration of the intended application recording: Data Storage Capacity Required = (Data Rate) * (Total Number of Seconds) For example: (1.4 GB/s) * (3,600 Seconds for 1 hour) = 5,040 GB (5.04 TB) Data Storage Capacity When reviewing raw DSS drive volume capacities, keep in mind that roughly 10% of capacity is lost in the formatting of the drive volume. So it is the size of the “formatted” drive volume that must be equal or greater than the targeted data storage capacity for the targeted application recording duration. The maximum single file size of a recorded signal data record is dependent on the supported file system limits of the host operating system. The following table details the current Windows operating system supported single file size capacity limits: Windows OS Version Windows 7 64-bit Professional Windows 8 64-bit Professional Windows Server 2012 Standard

Maximum Supported Single File Size 16 TB – 64 KB 256 TB – 64 KB 256 TB – 64 KB

Please consult Signatec for assistance or verification in selecting proper system configuration based on specific application details and requirements.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems RAM Drive Based Storage The large system memory capacity and performance of the workstation/server class Intel Xeon CPU platforms allow for the option of using PC system memory for real-time signal recording or playback applications by creating a RAM based drive. RAM based drives are primarily useful for real-time applications that require high-speed snapshot recording of events for short durations of time, typically from several seconds to a few minutes. A large capacity RAM drive allows for real-time gap-free signal recordings for typically longer time durations (a few minutes) than what can be achieved utilizing onboard memory of high-speed data acquisition or digitizer cards (a few seconds). For example, a single channel 8-bit digitizer card sampling at 4 GS/s with a total of 32 GB of onboard RAM would be capable of capturing up to 8 seconds of data. If this same digitizer card is capable of streaming data through its PCIe interface at the same 4 GS/s rate sustained to the PC system, a larger 500 GB capacity RAM based drive would allow for capturing up to 125 seconds (approximately 2.8 minutes) of data. A RAM based drive is configured with installed software that is used to create a virtual drive out of the physical installed PC system RAM. The created RAM drive appears like a physical hard drive to the Windows operating system and programs. The RAM drive software allows for selecting the desired size capacity of the RAM drive, the assigned drive letter, and the formatted file system of the drive.

The RAM drive image and restore mechanism can be utilized to either manually save the RAM drive contents to an image file or have the contents saved automatically when the computer is shutdown. This feature ensures that service and application data stored on the RAM drive can be preserved between system restarts. During the subsequent system startup, the RAM drive’s image is automatically loaded. Enabling the RAM drive image backup and restore mechanism does add significant time to the system shutdown/restart and boot-up processes due to the necessity of having to create/restore the data image file and thus should only be used if required. When not using the RAM drive image backup and restore mechanism, it is necessary to copy the RAM drive contents to an alternative storage drive location in order to save the data (if desired) before shutting down or restarting the system. The maximum size capacity of a configured RAM drive volume is dependent on the amount of physical RAM installed in the system and the total RAM size capacity limits of the host operating system. The following table details the current Windows operating system supported RAM size capacity limits: Windows OS Version Windows 7 64-bit Professional Windows 8 64-bit Professional Windows Server 2012 Standard

Maximum Supported RAM Capacity 192 GB 512 GB 4 TB

It is generally recommended to reserve a minimum of 8 GB of system RAM for use by the operating system.

Just like a typical drive volume, it allows for standard Windows operating system access and file operations to be performed on it. The RAM drive software also features multiple drive support, system page file support, and a versatile drive image backup and restore mechanism.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems RAID Drive Based Storage

RAID Storage Concept

High-performance RAID storage arrays provide system level real-time gap-free signal recordings for much longer time durations, typically for several hours as compared to minutes for RAM drives or seconds for onboard memory of instrumentation cards.

RAID storage systems conform to various data storage and redundancy concepts defined as “levels”. Although capable of operating at various RAID levels, in order to maximize performance the DSS is set up and is specifically focused for operation at RAID Level 0. In this mode there is no data redundancy in order to provide the maximum transfer rate performance possible and maximize the amount of available storage space.

For example, a high-performance RAID array capable of supporting a sustained 4.0 GB/s streaming data rate with a constructed total drive volume capacity of 172 TB would allow for capturing up to approximately 11.9 hours of data using a single channel 8-bit digitizer card sampling and streaming at 4 GS/s sustained to the RAID system.

The following block diagram details how a DSS creates a highperformance logic disk volume by utilizing a RAID card to manage a RAID Level 0 array.

Virtually all RAID storage systems have specifications that are highly misleading in terms of actual sustainable transfer rates to the drives. In most cases the only number specified is the peak “bandwidth” data rate for the bus type used. Actual sustained performance varies dramatically among the various RAID manufacturer and components. Signatec engineered the DSS product to achieve the highest “sustained” transfer rates possible with Signatec/GaGe instrumentation products by leveraging high-performance commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies and its decades of advanced signal technology experience. The DSS sustained data transfer rates and storage capacity are scalable, with current DSS systems capable of supporting RAID drive volumes up to 192 TB in capacity and sustaining transfer rates up to 3.4 GB/s continuously over the entire RAID drive volume. The DSS is supplied with software that includes device drivers for the RAID controllers and utility applications for configuration and management of the RAID drive arrays. The RAID drives are configured as Windows NTFS drive volumes, and thus all standard Windows operating system access and file operations may be performed on the RAID drive volume.

RAID Level 0 writes stripes of data across multiple physical drives instead of just one drive, breaking up data into smaller blocks and then writing a block to each drive in the array. Drive striping enhances performance because multiple drives are accessed simultaneously, aggregating the throughput of each individual drive’s sustained transfer rate performance.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems RAID Hard Drive Options Traditional mechanical rotator based RAID hard drive options are ideal for applications that require multiple hours of continuous signal data recordings. RAID hard drives provide the lowest cost per gigabyte and the largest drive capacities available for RAID arrays. RAID hard drives are available in traditional 3.5” and 2.5” form factors and range in drive capacities from 500 GB to 4.0 TB per drive. The total number and type of RAID hard drives that can be integrated into a Sig-Station is dependent upon the selected chassis model and platform chosen.

The 2.5” form factor RAID hard drive models typically offer less total maximum capacity per drive than the 3.5” form factor, but allow for more compact systems with reduced operational power usage. The following chart illustrates the DSS sequential write recording rate performance from system RAM across the entire drive volume for various quantities of 2.5” hard drives attached to 1 or 2 DSS RAID controllers and configured as a single drive volume at RAID Level 0. The same scalable recording rate and duration performance factors apply with additional drives and RAID controllers integrated into the system.

Sustained data transfer rates and storage capacity are scalable, but require a larger number of RAID hard drives in order to achieve the fastest level of sustained streaming data rates possible. The following chart illustrates the DSS sequential write recording rate performance from system RAM across the entire drive volume for various quantities of 3.5” hard drives attached to 1 or 2 DSS RAID controllers and configured as a single drive volume at RAID Level 0.

RAID Solid State Drive Options Solid state RAID drives can be utilized to construct highperformance recording systems for full rackmount systems down to more compact and/or portable based systems.

As shown, the write recording rate speed and duration performance increases with additional drives and/or RAID controllers added as the RAID Level 0 drive striping takes advantage of aggregating the throughput of each individual drive’s sustained transfer rate and across RAID controllers. Performance starts highest at the beginning of the RAID drive volume and gradually decreases towards the end of the drive volume due to the hardware nature of the rotational based media of hard drives; where data transfers occur more quickly on the outer tracks of the drives than on the inner tracks. The maximum write performance of the RAID controllers can be met and sustained by adding enough hard drives to the controller.

The NAND flash-based architecture of solid state drives versus the spinning platters and mechanical heads architecture of traditional hard drives make solid state drives more reliable, as they are not prone to mechanical failures and can operate in more extreme environments in terms of shock, temperature and operating altitudes. The NAND flash-based architecture of solid state drives also enables much faster sustained data transfer rates per drive, thus providing the capability of sustaining very high-speed recordings while utilizing less number of physical drives. Total system power consumption is also greatly reduced as the typical power average for sequential write operations of solid state drive models range from 4.5 W to 6.0 W versus the hard drive models range of 6.0 W to 10.0 W per drive. Solid state drives utilize onboard firmware that incorporates write wear leveling techniques to maximize the lifetime duration of the onboard NAND and various range of models are provided to satisfy difference performance segments based on application requirements.

High-Performance Data Storage Systems The following chart illustrates the DSS sequential write recording rate performance from system RAM across the entire drive volume for various quantities of 2.5” solid state drives attached to 1 or 2 DSS RAID controllers and configured as a single drive volume at RAID Level 0.

RAID Redundancy Options The default DSS configuration of RAID Level 0 provides maximum sustained transfer rate performance possible and the maximum amount of drive volume capacity, but does not provide any data redundancy. A hardware failure of any single drive unit will result in the loss of all data. For critical applications that require data redundancy, the DSS can be alternatively setup to operate with a RAID Level 5 or a RAID Level 6 configuration. A RAID Level 5 configuration provides data protection against a maximum of one drive failure per controller, while a RAID Level 6 configuration provides data protection against a maximum of two drive failures per controller. Data protection is provided by writing parity information across the drives with the data. If a drive failure occurs, the data is reconstructed using the parity information from the remaining drives. This data protection comes with a tradeoff in terms of reduced maximum sustained transfer rate performance and reduced drive volume capacity of the DSS.

Performance is again scalable with additional drives and RAID controllers integrated into the system. However, unlike traditional hard drives, performance is more stable across the entire drive volume of solid state drives due to their NAND flash based hardware architecture. While solid state RAID drive models provide maximum performance and operating power efficiency, they have a higher cost per gigabyte and are more limited in drive capacity sizes as compared to traditional hard drive models. Therefore when comparing solid state drive versus hard drive based RAID systems, it is important to consider and evaluate an application’s requirements in terms of:   

Maximum sustained transfer rate performance is reduced as the RAID system must write both data and parity information to the drives. In a RAID Level 5 configuration, parity information is distributed across all drives and thus consumes the capacity equivalent of a single drive. RAID Level 6 involves writing two different parity sets of information and thus consumes the capacity equivalent of two drives. The following chart illustrates the performance of the same DSS system configured with RAID Level 0 and RAID Level 5:

Targeted maximum sustained data rate required Targeted maximum recording duration required Targeted system size, weight, and power requirements

RAID Drive Bays The system RAID drives are typically installed in externally accessible hot-swap drive bays of the system chassis. The total number and type of RAID drives that can be integrated into a Sig-Station is dependent upon the selected chassis model and platform chosen. Native 3.5” form factor drive bays can also support any height 2.5” form factor drives with the use of an adapter. Full height 2.5” form factor drive bays can support either 2.5” hard drives or 2.5” solid state drives. Low profile 2.5” form factor drive bays can only support solid state drives models.

Please consult Signatec for assistance or verification of possible RAID redundant configuration options based on specific application details and requirements.

Please take note of the identified system chassis model details and the type of RAID drive configuration support options that are possible.

Sig-Station PCIe Expansion Models with Default Installed Components Sig-Station PCIe expansion enclosures provide the flexibility of connecting multiple high-performance Signatec/GaGe instrumentation cards to either mobile laptop/notebook or desktop/workstation systems. The expansion enclosures are designed for plug-and-play compatibility and are data pass through devices that allow for multiple PCIe slots in the enclosures to be accessed by the host system through the integrated host adapter. They are cable connected to laptop/notebook systems through the use of an ExpressCard/34 host adapter or cable connected to desktop/workstation systems through the use of a PCIe x4 or x16 host adapter card. It is important to note that the PCIe slots within the expansion enclosures all share bandwidth to the host system. For maximum data throughput, the host adapter should be integrated within the host system with the maximum supported I/O slot performance possible.

Form Factor PCIe Expansion Slots:

 Ability to utilize high-performance instrumentation cards with mobile laptop/notebook systems.  Ability to utilize high-performance instrumentation cards with systems that may not have suitable form factors and/or interface resources to support native integration of these cards.  Easy portability of high-performance instrumentation cards that can be easily connected and shared with multiple systems (additional host adapters can be ordered separately for multiple systems).  Expand the possible number of high-performance instrumentation cards to be added to a system with limited I/O slot resources.

Data Storage Systems for RAM Drives RAM based drives are configured with installed software that is used to create a virtual drive out of the physical installed PC system RAM. The maximum size capacity of a configured RAM drive volume is dependent on the amount of physical RAM installed in the system and the total RAM size capacity limits of the host operating system. The default standard configuration for systems ordered with this RAM Drive Data Storage System option is to reserve a minimum of 8 GB of system RAM for use by the operating system. The remaining balance of system RAM available will then be used to establish the RAM Drive storage volume. The RAM Drive configuration and settings are completely software configurable with the included software and can be changed at any time. Part Number Ordering Format:
