SIPLUS RIC Scalable telecontrol and automation with SIMATIC S7
Future-oriented and economical – with standard communication from SIMATIC S7 SIPLUS RIC (Remote Interface Control) is a telecontrol system based on the SIMATIC S7 automation system with internationally standardized communications protocols for: ■
Serial transmission IEC 60870-5-101
■
Ethernet (TCP/IP) IEC 60870-5-104
■
Serial transmission IEC 60870-5-103 for protective devices
Information from geographically distributed stations can also be forwarded to a control center with original time stamps. The time settings from all network stations can be automatically synchronized by the control station using the Network Time Protocol (NTP). SIPLUS RIC can be integrated into the following SCADA systems: • • • •
WINCC TeleControl SIMATIC PCS 7 TeleControl WINCC Open Architecture IEC 60870-5-compliant control centers
It provides secure communication with reduced data volume for reliable operation in the Wide Area Network (WAN) thanks to event-driven, time-stamped transmission and monitored output of commands.
Performance
Due to the reduced data volume it is possible to communicate using cost-effective flat rates over public networks such as GPRS and UMTS, or even satellite systems. Network security can be implemented with suitable methods such as VPN tunneling.
SIPLUS RIC is an integrated, scalable system available on standard SIMATIC hardware ranging from the compact ET 200S device to the fault-tolerant S7-400H system. It can also be installed on PC-based controllers with the SIMATIC WinAC RTX software PLC. It is available on standard CPUs, failsafe CPUs, and PCS7 systems. The SIPLUS RIC software libraries are programmed in the standard SIMATIC Manager and can be used on various mutually compatible types of SIMATIC S7 devices. This saves hardware and programming costs. Different protocols can be used simultaneously on one CPU in order to utilize different communication paths. Third-party stations and protective devices can also communicate with the SIMATIC S7. All data message frames are provided with a time stamp upon acquisition and buffered in a safe manner in the CPU for subsequent archiving of the process data in the control system.

Flexible communication options with SIPLUS RIC in a Wide Area Network
Types of communication:
Data security:
Classical WAN • Dedicated line via modems, e.g. SINAUT MD2 • Dedicated line over fiber-optic cables • Private wireless networks
• Time stamp at the data source • Time synchronization is possible via the NTP or IEC protocol • A data buffer for bridging communication disruptions is now available with up to 16 priority buffers, each with up to 1500 message frames (CPU dependent). • Selective and monitored output of commands for reliable detection of malfunctions
TCP/IP-based WAN • Ethernet networks, e.g. SCALANCE X with fiber-optic cables • Wireless, e.g. SCALANCE W with Ethernet wireless • Public networks and the Internet using DSL, GPRS and/or UMTS • Satellite communication, e.g. Inmarsat
Applications: • Easy integration of SIPLUS RIC products into SCADA systems • Migration of legacy SCADA systems • Migration of automation functions into existing third-party systems With SIPLUS RIC you can set up star and line topologies. A station can be linked using two transmission paths (even via different interfaces), to permit redundant data transmission.

SIPLUS RIC Flexible telecontrol technology for a wide range of sector-specific solutions
The benefits at a glance ■
IEC 60870-5-101 and -104 are standardized, multivendor protocols which can be parameterized using the SIMATIC Manager (no additional hardware or software is required) by means of our SIPLUS RIC software
■
SIMATIC Controllers can also communicate with thirdparty products by means of the IEC protocol
■
It is easy to modernize and expand existing installations using IEC protocols
■
SIMATIC can be integrated in to third-party control systems through SIPLUS RIC
■
Gap-free archiving of process data even after a connection is lost thanks to back-up in the local buffer and event-driven data transmission (incl. time stamp)
■
High availability of communication due to redundant data communication
■
Increased productivity through prompt troubleshooting using diagnostic functions
■
Integrated, scalable configuration (SIMATIC ET 200S to SIMATIC S7-400) in standard SIMATIC Manager
■
SIPLUS RIC libraries can already be used with SIMATIC PCS 7 and on embedded controllers with WINAC
