Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club Option 1: 1 Week Learn to Sail 1 Week Intro / Wetfeet Spending a week on the water is a friendly, fun introduction to sailing. This 3 part program, which was developed by ‘BC sailing’ focuses on making new sailors feel comfortable around, near, on and in the water while using primarily the ‘Optimist’ dinghy. This level aims to give sailors exposure to sailing in winds up to 10 knots. Participants often choose to take multiple weeks in this format to best learn water safety, knots, and basic sailing skills. This can be accomplished by participating in games and activities both on and off the water. Children sail with a partner in a variety of different sailboats. Exploring the waters of beautiful Shelburne Harbour! Sail with our instructors adds to an adventure filled week. *Note: The Sailing Academy’s weeklong introductory camp is consists of 3 subcategories of progression including the ‘Wetfeet, Opti 1, and Opti 2’ checklists. Average advancement time is 3 weeks.

1 Week ‘Flex-weeks’ Upon participating in our introductory “BC Sailing” curriculum sailors often choose to take an additional week! This option aims to acknowledge those sailors who have participated in the academy before and give them then confidence, knowledge and skills to sail in winds up to 13 knots. The curriculum includes terminology, docking and sail trim. Instructors keep learning fun with games, swimming, beach activities and weekly theme days. Sailors at this level are also granted new challenges including captaining a boat with new sailors! *Note: Our flex-week program allows participants of all age and skill levels to add on extra weeks to their summer upon completing a 2 week CanSail program. Coverage of a complete CanSail module and level Certification not guarantied. Option 2: 2 Week Learn to Sail

2 Week Learn to Sail It is the mission Shelburne Sailing Academy and the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club to offer adult and family, evening and weekend learn to sail opportunities to all interested participants! Come and bring a friend and learn how you can get the most out of your summer in the beautiful Shelburne County! Adult Sailing Coach This year our Adult programming will be lead by our Head Coach, Max Page and four year Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club coach and Provinicial Team sailor Nick Williams, with up to two assistant adult sailing coaches and additional volunteers to ensure that our participants get the most out of their summer sailing experience.

Max Page has been sailing and racing in both keelboats and dinghies since 2001 in his hometown of Bedford, Nova Scotia. Max’s racing experience consists of five Canadian Championships including one in the Albacore Dinghy, three in the ‘J24’ Keelboat, and one Collegiate ‘J24’ Student Yachting World Cup Qualifier. Max has also participated in two North American Championships including one in a 420 dinghy and one in a J24, as well as one ‘J24’ world championship as Canada’s ‘under 25’ Keelboat representative. This year Max intends to complete the Nova Scotia “Laser” circuit in attempt to qualify for the Nova Scotia Provincial Sailing team. Beyond these sailing successes Max has been regarded as a leader in building the East coast sailing community as both a volunteer, a nine year coach and four year head coach at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club, The Mira Boat Club, The Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club, and now the Shelburne Sailing Academy! Upon attending Memorial University of Newfoundland Max acted as a founding member of the Memorial University sailing team, and is credited with skippering the J24 in ‘MUN’s’ first collegiate regatta. In 2015 Max was awarded the Sail Nova Scotia community coach of the year title. Currently Max is undertaking his second year as the Shelburne Sailing Academy Head Coach in conjunction with his second year as an executive director of the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association. We are lucky to have Max Page with us this year and he could not be more excited to offer the skill of sailing to Shelburne County and beyond!
