The 2nd National Shared Services Conclave With India emerging as a global economy and the leading global destination for off shoring of IT and IT Enabled Services (for Captive Shared Service Centers as well as Outsourcing operations), Indian Corporations have commenced exploiting Shared Services as a strategic enabler for business and growth. Increasing complexity and volatility of today’s business environment is demanding a transformation of service functions within organizations. In the current economic scenario, visionary CEOs & CFOs are looking at building "best in class" business functions with embedded and enhanced controls, enabling metrics-based decision making to lead and support enterprise cost saving mandates, and ensuring effective use of information, costs and capital to deliver value to all key stakeholders. The 1st Shared Services Conclave in August 2011, which focused on ‘Finance Transformation through Shared Services’ was a great success. It concluded with the view that more and more forward looking organizations are responding to growing business pressures by embarking upon a transformational program of shared services. The Shared Services Model transforms not only Finance & Accounting processes, but also all ‘staff and service functions’ like Operations, Human Resources, Supply Chain & Logistics, Marketing Services, IT Services. These ‘staff’ functions are transitioned to operate like ‘line’ functions, moving from ‘a support function to become a strategic function’ – thereby unlocking huge value to the business. The 2nd Shared Services Conclave of 2012 extends to all service functions, thereby enabling transformation across the organization. The Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) segment has, in many ways, pioneered the adoption of shared services as a strategy, both within India and across the globe. Banking corporations in India have set up their own Shared Service Centers (referred mostly as ‘Central Processing Centers or CPCs)’ and have thus achieved significant expansion in their operations and services to customers. By realigning the service functions into a process based service delivery operation under the SSC/CPC Model, Indian companies have been able to achieve cost saves, focus on core business, increase processing efficiency, enhance controls & compliance, ensure information flow for decision making, provide customer visibility to operations, and overall, enable business growth. Leaders are increasingly adopting the Shared Services strategy to transform and deliver best practices through assessing and implementing emerging technologies to improve and automate processes. Many Global and Indian organizations across multiple domains have set up their own Shared Services across multiple functions. To name a few: Tata Motors, Airtel, Ericsson, Hindustan Unilever, Future Group, Nestle, American Express, Citi Bank, HDFC, and ICICI.
