Shirley Barnes

Pre-Admit Testing Gateway Shirley is a 1988 graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. Since graduation, she has worked on unit 3600, unit 3900, Cath Lab, PACU and currently in Pre-Admission Testing. All staff want to be work with Shirley because she is so helpful, a great team player and NEVER without a smile. She is a wonderful example to others of professionalism, positive attitude and kindness.

Melanie Behrman

Laboratory Melanie is a Cytology Specimen Processor in Lab Services. She has a great working relationship with our physicians and quite a sense of humor. It’s no surprise that Melanie has been serving Deaconess for 25 years. She very much deserves the honor of this recognition.

Rhonda Cornett

Med Records-Coding Rhonda hit the ground running when she joined the Medical Records Department in 1989 and has never slowed since. She is known for her energy and productivity along with great organizational skills. Rhonda has been involved in several implementations of new programs and new software applications within our coding area, always helping to finetune the process. Our department has been very fortunate to have Rhonda’s dedication and accurate work, which have greatly contributed to the hospital’s financial success.

Alice Culver

Lab - Gateway Alice began her career at Community Methodist Hospital, where she worked in the laboratory for 14 years followed by two years at Welborn Clinic. In 1989, she began working for Deaconess Laboratory in Microbiology and then later moved to the Hematology Department. She has worked at Deaconess Gateway Hospital Laboratory since it opened in 2006. Janey Haynes

Patient Financial Service Janey has 25 years of continuous service as a Patient Account Representative in Patient Financial Services. She started her career at Deaconess in 1989 as a Patient Registrar. Janey transferred to the business office, where she worked as biller for more than 10 years and now as an insurance follow-up representative. Janey is known for her positive attitude and wealth of knowledge. We thank you for your dedication and service for the past 25 years and in years to come.

Doris (Jane) Hill

Visitor Assistants Jane stared her career at Deaconess Hospital as an Attendant 1 in Environmental Services. She then accepted a position in Nursing as a Receptionist/Clerk. She later transferred to her current position as Visitor Assistant, where she has worked for the last 17 years. Jane has seven children and 14 grandchildren. She loves to spend time with her family, and her hobbies include sewing and reading. Jane is appreciative of the opportunity to work at Deaconess Hospital for so many years.

Susan Holstein

Hospice Inpatient Susan graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1983. Susan has worked in many different areas throughout her nursing career, including Ortho/Neuro, Medical Surgical, Neurology, Psychiatric, Call Center and Home Care/Hospice. Susan has been very dedicated to Deaconess Hospital and has been providing compassionate and skilled care throughout her career. She is a strong patient advocate and very skilled in end-of-life care.

David Johann

Information Services David is a Desktop Engineer with the Informatics and Technology Services Technology Division, who began his employment in February 1989. Melanie Kerney

Pharmacy Melanie has an additional seven years of service prior to beginning her 25 years in 1988. Throughout her years of service and variety of positions, she has been described as “dedicated, loyal, compassionate and a team player.” Melanie is hard-working and understands the importance of her current role within the Pharmacy Epic Willow Team. She takes her job seriously, is very good with details, and always displays a positive attitude.

Maureen Van Hook

Emergency Room Maureen has been a vital part of the Deaconess team since 1988. She has filled many roles in her career at Deaconess. Maureen joined the Emergency Department as a staff nurse in 2010. Maureen is kind, compassionate in the care of her patients and talented in so many ways. Thank you for your 25 years of service.

Cindy Merkley

D’alessandri, Anne Cindy is caring and compassionate. She always goes above and beyond for patients, co-workers and family. Cindy never lets a Thank You Thursday go by without a card to a co-worker thanking them for a job well done. She takes food to the sick and gift baskets to patients or co-workers when having chemotherapy, and she volunteers in the community. Philip Mulvey

Material Management Phil started his Deaconess career in July 1989. Phil has proven to be a great asset to the department. He has learned his job so well that he is the one who teaches the new Floor Captains and the one who takes over their floors during vacation times. Phil is always smiling and always willing to help. Phil has given a great 25 years of service to Deaconess and all its employees.

Gail Nelson

Ortho-Medical Care Center Gail is a compassionate nurse who goes the extra mile for her patients. She is very knowledgeable and has a passion for educating both patients and staff. She is always helpful and kind. We are lucky to have her, and we thank her for her years of service.

Kristi Newcomb

CDI Kristi began her professional career on cardiac telemetry after graduation from the Deaconess School of Nursing. She then moved to Case Management, where she wore several hats and was involved in several new projects, including the original clinical documentation improvement and precertification programs. Kristi eventually took on a big challenge as the first and sole Recovery Audit Contracting Coordinator. Deaconess is lucky to have someone with Kristi’s polite persistence and knowledge in that role.

James Price

Laboratory Jim is our Supply Specialist-Diener in Lab Services. He exemplifies the kind and helpful attitude that our patients, visitors and coworkers deserve. He is a great representative for Deaconess. Jim very much deserves the honor of this recognition.

Lissa Rexing

Deaconess Care Group Lissa began her career with Deaconess in Human Resources, serving initially as an Employment Technician and later as a Benefits Specialist. In 1999 she and one physician formed the Care Group, which consists of 36 providers today. Lissa’s ever-expanding responsibilities with the group evolved from Executive Secretary to Physician Liaison and, now, Coordinator.

Elaine McMinn

Radiology Elaine began her career in May 1989. Elaine has worked in many areas of Radiology and is currently the radiologic technologist who works exclusively in Pain Management Center– West with Dr. McDonnell. She is valued in the Pain Clinic because she adapts to both the Pain Management Center’s needs and to the needs of their chronically ill patients. She also has been traveling to do cases in the OR with the physicians to help with consistency.

Richard Rust

Concern Richard is a skilled and compassionate therapist. He remains committed to doing “the right thing” for both his family and his work. He is the first to volunteer to go to a company to assist even if it is 3:00 a.m. He remains friendly and upbeat even through challenging times. He is a great co-worker.

Human Resources Bob has hired more than 2,500 employees with nearly 25 years of perfect attendance. His dedication to his work was evidenced several years ago when he came to work on Cross Country Skis when the roads were impassable. This year, Bob and his family were the recipients of the “Pam Rausch Spirit Award” as champions of health in our community.

Central Supply Kathy is a wonderful person and employee. She has always been helpful and a valueadded resource to the Sterile Supply Department. I am happy to serve as one of her supervisors, and I congratulate her concerning her longevity.

Patricia Spears

Dietetics Patient Food Services Patty worked in Dietary at Deaconess Hospital in the salad and cold counter position until 2006, when she transferred to Gateway Dietary. Patty has been married to her husband, Mike, for 21 years and has been blessed with seven grandchildren.

Danny (Joe) Spinks

Material Management Joe started his Deaconess days in Laundry, moving up to Dietary then to Material Management. Joe is now the Team Lead at Gateway where he also runs the dock with an iron hand. There is not a day that goes by that Joe does not help someone by finding their shipment, finding an empty box or giving instructions to the contractors. Patrick Staback

Finance Pat began his employment with Deaconess Finance in August 1989 as a Cost Accountant I. As a Financial Accountant/Analyst III, he was instrumental in building our contract module within EPSi. He has worked on many proformas and feasibility studies over time and has been a finance resource for many managers within the organization. His reporting expertise on the decision support side is remarkable.

Cardiovascular Care Center Linda has put in many years of hard work at Deaconess. She has excellent nursing experience and is a wonderful resource for other staff. Linda thinks quickly in emergent situations and is capable of caring for very sick patients. We appreciate her years of dedication to Deaconess Hospital and the Cardiovascular Care Center! Medical Records - Operations Betty began her employment with Deaconess in May 1989 as a medical records control clerk. Over the years Betty has held many positions in Medical Records. For the last six years Betty has been working as a medical records analyst, working from her home in Henderson. Ethel (Diana) Stroud

Medical Records - Operations Diana began her Deaconess employment in Dietary as a vegetable cook and had many roles during her time in Dietary. In February 1999, Diana transferred to Medical Records as a Medical Records Specialist. She took over organizing the basement area of paper records. She has put many smiles on our faces for finding missing records over the years. Congratulations on 25 years of service to Deaconess.

Angela Stroud

Opcc Angie graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1989. She began her nursing career at Deaconess as a graduate nurse—that same year working as a staff nurse. Angie has held various nursing leadership roles at Deaconess, including Team Leader and Department Manager roles. She values continuing pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. Angie is active in nursing organizations and is a certified medical/surgical nurse.

Sally Sunderman

Patient Access Sally has a great sense of humor and is always able to brighten your day. Sally is a hard worker, and she is great at what she does and truly cares about others. I hope Sally stays with us for another 25 years, because she is an asset to Deaconess.

Judith Swartz

Employee Histories

Community Relations Judy was hired as the executive secretary for two vice presidents: Warren Hankins and Chris Berneking. She was also executive secretary for Tom Kramer, Deaconess Hospital President and CEO, for 14 years. The last 10 years, she has worked in Volunteer Services. While working full-time, Judy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business from University of Evansville, with a double major in Office Administration and Personnel Management. Judy says of her 25 years at Deaconess, “I never thought I’d work for Deaconess this long. Deaconess has been very good to me!”

Kelly Talbott

Surgery Kelly started with Deaconess as Graduate Nurse in Surgery and has advanced to the Open Heart Team Leader. Kelly is known throughout the organization for her compassion and team approach to problem solving. Kelly is a patient advocate and exemplifies the Deaconess standards on a daily basis.

Carol Yeager

Radiology Carol Yeager began her career at Deaconess in April 1989. Carol has spent time in CT and is currently a senior technologist in our diagnostic radiology area. Carol is a dedicated staff member who works hard while she is here. She does a great job with our x-ray students and sets a great example for them both technically and professionally.

Andrea Gander

Laboratory Andrea graduated from the University of Illinois and began working at Deaconess as a Medical Technologist in February 1989. She has worked exclusively in the Microbiology section of the lab. Andrea has recently taken on the additional role of a laboratory spokesperson in several local TV news stories and educational videos.

Tonya Vaupel

Performance Improvement Tonya joined Deaconess in 1989 as a registered nurse. She has worked in a variety of areas, which has contributed to her vast clinical knowledge and quality experience. She plays a key role as the coordinator of chart review and quality reporting for physician peer review, credentialing and regulatory

compliance. Tonya has travelled 100 miles every day for 25 years to work at Deaconess. We are thrilled that she has chosen to make this journey to help Deaconess improve patient care and quality.

Allison Wagner

Cardiology - Non-Invasive Allison began her employment at Deaconess as an EKG tech in January 1989. During her years at Deaconess, Allison has been involved in many hospital and unit committees and maintains an active role as a preceptor to our new Echo Technicians and students. Allison’s dedication, expertise and professionalism are greatly appreciated. She has been recognized many times for her compassionate and caring spirit by her patients and peers.

Michelle Williams

Emergency Room Michelle joined Deaconess in 1989, where she gained valuable experience in the cardiac ICU. She moved to the Emergency Department and is in a vital leadership position as a Team Leader. Michelle is dedicated to quality patient care and puts patients’ needs first. She cares for her co-workers and strives to meet their needs as well. We are lucky to have Michelle on our team and thank her for her many years of service.

Debra Austill

Case Management Debra began her career at Deaconess in 1983. She has worked as a staff nurse on the surgical/coronary ICU, med-surg/cardiac cath lab units, ADON, GI lab, manager of Cath lab and currently works in the case management department at Gateway. Deb has had many wonderful experiences at Deaconess but is looking forward to the day she can retire and enjoy spending time with her husband and children.

Patricia Bray

Pharmacy Pat has worked both days and nights at Deaconess but has contributed to our consistency on nights for the last 16 years. An Evansville native, she obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy from Butler University. Prior to her return to Evansville, she held various retail, hospital and clinic positions in Indianapolis, Bloomington and Madison, Wisconsin. Pat’s interests include quilting, golfing and reading.

Sharon Breiner

Pharmacy Sharon graduated from Purdue University and began her career at the Indiana Poison Center prior to joining Deaconess Hospital. She has been instrumental over the years in technician training and has been a continuous resource in pharmacy operations. Away from the hospital, Sharon likes to garden, read and spend time with her family.

Clarence (Dean) Brown

Information Services Dean began working for Deaconess in April 1984 and played a key role in support of the MIPS Application. In 1988 as a System Administrator, he helped purchase and implement PRIME, which led to the beginning of word processing and office applications at Deaconess. In 1994, he helped design and facilitate moving our operations into a new data center at Deaconess Hospital and instituted our first email system, called Microsoft Mail. Congratulations and thank you for your professionalism and dedication over the past 30 years.

Laboratory Ruth is a Cytologist in Lab Services. Ruth is keenly aware that every vial, slide and report is a patient—a life. We are very grateful for her dedication to Deaconess over the years. Ruth most certainly deserves the honor of this recognition.

Kathryn Curtis

Ortho-Medical Care Center Kathy started at Deaconess in 1984. She is a staff nurse on Ortho-Medical Care Center. She is role model for her peers and students. Joann Devault

Case Management Joann started at Deaconess in 1984. She worked as a staff nurse in Neurology, on 5100 when it was a Rehabilitation unit, and currently works as the Case Manager of Trauma. Joann loves spending time with her granddaughter, Hadley, and is very excited to have a new grandbaby on the way. She looks forward to the day she can retire and spend more time with her family.

Julie Dill

Pharmacy Julie is a hard worker and gives 100% each time she works. She is reliable and requires little direction. You can count on her to be accurate, self-directed and a team player. She makes the pharmacists’ job easier because of her vast experience as one of the original staff to open the surgery satellite in 1996. The entire surgery team looks to her as a resource for pharmacy services. She has an infectious laugh and is a pleasure to work with.

Debra Dill

Sleep Center Debra started at Deaconess in 1983 in Cardiology/EKG until 2008 when she transferred to the Sleep Center. Debra is always willing to help others going above and beyond to get things done. She is a tremendous asset to Deaconess and a pleasure to work with.

Karen Gibson

Business and Industry Wellness In 1985 Karen had an opportunity to join our Home Care Department, and there she flourished. Many references are made regarding Karen’s “warm and pleasant rapport” with patients, co-workers and virtually everyone she came into contact with. For the past thirteen years, Karen has been passionate about educating and coaching others on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. She has changed many lives. Audio Visual From the very start Jeff has been one of the most helpful employees at Deaconess. Case Management Patricia started at Deaconess in 1983. She has worked on the Rehabilitation Unit and currently works on SMCC. She has served on the Pulmonary Rehab team, Parkinson’s Disease Support Group, Tristate Stroke Survivors Support Group and Reach to Recover Liaison with American Cancer Society. Patty enjoys spending time with her family and church family.

Janet Snyder

Emergency Room Janet joined Deaconess in 1983 and joined the Emergency Department team in 1997 as a registered nurse. Janet is in a Team Leader role, where she uses her valuable experience and knowledge of emergency nursing. Janet is kindhearted and always puts patients’ needs first. Some of the ED staff call her “Mother,” as she exhibits true care and compassion for the staff as well. We thank Janet for her many years of service and dedication to Deaconess Hospital.

Lisa Tichy

Cardiovascular Care Center Lisa has excellent med-surg and telemetry skills. She uses her knowledge and skills to provide competent patient care and to teach new staff members. Lisa is a fantastic resource for staff and assists in educating staff in our yearly Skills Days. She is a pleasure to work with, and her expertise is much appreciated!

Bernadette Wallace

Case Management Bernie started at Deaconess in 1983. She has worked in ED, Same Day Surgery Center, PACU, surgical ICU, Neuro ICU and 2600 med-surg floor. Bernie has been in the Case Management Department since 1996, where she is currently the Case Manager for NCC/ MRCC. Bernie loved her experience on 2600 med surg unit. She loves to read and spend time with her two teenage children.

Karen Beliles

Home Health Care Karen started her career at Deaconess in October 1978 on 5200, which was a medicalsurgical unit, as a staff RN. In October 1990, she transferred to Home Care, where she has served in many roles, including Documentation Specialist, Referral Nurse and Case Manager. She has been an invaluable resource to Home Care and a dedicated, conscientious employee.

Mary Brooks Scott

Cardiovascular Care Center Mary (“Vicki”) is extremely proficient in her nursing skills and provides safe, compassionate care to her patients. Vicki is very approachable and welcoming to new staff, offering her knowledge and skills to help co-workers as needed. Vicki is great to work with, and her dedication and commitment to nursing excellence is valued.

Kathleen Buchanan

Transcription Kathy started at Deaconess in Transcription in November 1978. Kathy has seen transcription go from typewriters to word processors and then to different software programs in an effort to make transcription faster and easier. It is always challenging with a new word from the medical world every day. Kathy is third shift, doing those overnight dictations that are always needed immediately if not sooner. She is one of our top producers, giving the department that extra mile to get things accomplished in a timely manner.

Debbi Carr

Transcription Debbi was hired on her birthday, July 30, 1979. She was 20 years old and just married. She says she started working here as a child. Her greatest passion is for her animals, but she also loves trail riding, camping, four-wheelers and family get-togethers. Over the years the transcription dept has changed from working in the office to working from home. The field is always challenging and never dull. The past 35 years have flown by, and she has seen many, many changes in the way transcription is performed.

Glenda Foust

Radiology Glenda’s dedication to Deaconess far exceeds just showing up to work every day. For the past 25 years, Glenda has committed herself to teaching, helping the radiologists and, most importantly, providing exceptional care to her patients—all with almost perfect attendance throughout her employment. Glenda’s compassionate and genuine caring attitude puts her patients at ease, knowing she is providing them with excellent care. Deaconess is very lucky to have such a dedicated employee.

Brenda Hoover

Transcription Brenda was hired in January 1979 and started out using typewriters, carbon paper and white-out and distributing reports through the pneumatic tube system. Over the years she learned word processors, then software programs and now totally Internet-based transcription. She has trained many when we had two shifts in the office in Medical Records. Brenda is looking forward to retirement in January 2015, but it will be hard to say goodbye to those MTs she has worked with for so many years.

Pharmacy Joni has been very dedicated to the department and is viewed by her peers as “always willing to help out.” She often takes on new task and can be counted on to follow them through to completion. Joni continually displays a positive and caring attitude toward her co-workers to the extent that she is often referred to in the department as “Mother.”

Karen Jochim

Post Anesthesia Care Unit Karen started at Deaconess Hospital in June 1979. She worked in ICU (2100 and 4800) until she transferred to PACU in July 2012. Karen is a kind and compassionate nurse. She is very knowledgeable and a good resource for her co-workers. Karen enjoys spending time with her two children and three grandchildren in her spare time.

Shannon Johnson

Performance Improvement Shannon joined Deaconess in February 1979 as an LPN. Shannon is a Six Sigma Green Belt and has been instrumental in a large number of clinical improvement projects. She is the resident expert on cardiovascular quality metrics and works very closely with The Heart Hospital and Deaconess Hospital to continually provide excellent care to our patients. Many thanks to Shannon for 35 years of service.

Joseph Koressel

Dietetics Patient Food Services Joe began his employment at Deaconess in August 1979. He has held positions as janitor, dish machine leader, assistant lead cook and currently as a lead cook with shared responsibilities in the storeroom. Joe is very active in the community, being a

strong supporter of Mater Dei wrestling and basketball He is a member of the Knights of St. John, working on the cooking team, and in his spare time he finds time to work at weddings and receptions.

Kimberly Liberman

Opcc Kim is a great resource to the unit and the hospital in general. She is very knowledgeable about chemotherapy, blood products and anything that has to do with Deaconess. Kim is a great advocate for her patients and has a great questioning attitude. She is definitely a major asset to our unit and the hospital.

Steven Lockridge

Engineering & Maintenance Steve was hired as a licensed HVAC technician in July 1979. Steve’s role in daily operations includes maintaining the chillers and cooling towers, which are the primary components of the hospital’s air conditioning system. He is actively involved with maintenance and repairs to many of the complex heating and air conditioning systems as well as pressure controlled areas such as isolation rooms and surgical ORs.

Jill Owens

Dietetics Patient Food Services Jill graduated from Purdue University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and completed her master’s degree at the University of Kentucky in 1977. She began employment at Deaconess in November 1978 as a clinical dietitian, accepting the position of Consulting Coordinator in 1983 and, eventually, becoming Operations Manager of Dietetics in 2000. Jill has been instrumental in implementing many positive changes in Dietetics. The most recent one is the implementation of room service at Deaconess Hospital. Jill is an excellent manager and a very dedicated employee.

Lesle Pietraniec

Laboratory Lesle graduated from Henderson Community College as a Medical Laboratory Technician. She began her career at Deaconess in 1979 as a second-shift Chemistry Tech and later moved to a day/evening position there. In 1990 Lesle transferred to the Hematology Department, where she has worked part-time ever since. Lesle has been a valued resource for Deaconess Laboratory, and we are fortunate to have her on our team.

Employee Histories

Sandra Robinson

Environmental Services Sandy started at the “Walnut Room,” now the Garden Café, and spent 16 years working in the kitchen and as a cashier. She has spent the last 19 years working in Environmental Services. When asked what she liked best about working for Deaconess, she said meeting all the people and making good friends. Sandy is courteous, conscientious, a caring person, and a hard worker.

Leonard Schmitt

Laboratory Leonard graduated from USI (then ISUE) in 1975, attended Deaconess School of Medical Technology in 1976, and began his career at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. In 1978, he returned to Deaconess Laboratory and has worked 15 years as a generalist on thirds and 20 years in Chemistry. Leonard has played a vital role in the installation and operation of many different chemistry analyzers that have been acquired over the years, and he is currently involved in the collection and analysis of data for the ED Lab Turnaround team.

Nellie Sherman

Dietetics Patient Food Services Nellie began her employment at Deaconess in May 1979 in the Diet Office as a therapeutic tech. And she is still a therapeutic tech in the Diet Office 35 years later! Nellie loves chocolate, bingo, horseracing and playing the lottery, looking forward to winning the PowerBall! Nellie looks forward to retirement to enjoy family activities and traveling.

Terri Walker

Surgery Terri has been in Surgery since she began her career at Deaconess. For the majority of this time, she worked on a wide variety of cases as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Over the past year, she has moved into the important role of Inventory Coordinator.

Terry Wilcox

Laboratory Terry began her employment at Deaconess in June 1979 in the lab office. In 1990, Terry transferred to the Microbiology lab as a specimen processor, where she still works today as the senior specimen processor. Terry and her husband, John, have been married for 35 years and have three daughters.

Ted Rogers

Laboratory Ted began his employment as a Deaconess Medical Technologist in February 1979. He worked on third shift and on the 1985 lab computer system install before moving to the Blood Bank in 1986. During off time, Ted has been a walking participant in marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2013.

Ellen Wathen

Employee Education and Development If there was a definition in the dictionary for a Deaconess nurse, Dr. Ellen Wathen’s name and picture would be the example. She is an expert clinician, loyal mentor and excellent preceptor, and she exhibits the Deaconess Credo in all she does. Part of Ellen’s role in EE&D is tutoring new graduate nurses, and it’s very special to see the graduates come back after they have passed their boards. EE&D is definitely a better department because of Ellen.

Karen Denton

Lab Outreach Karen has dedicated herself to the care of others. For forty years she has upheld Deaconess traditions and values in the way she strives for excellence from herself and her staff. Deaconess Regional Laboratory and the health system are better organizations because of employees like Karen.

Robert Head

Pharmacy Bob started his career at Deaconess as a nurse aide and moved through Material Management and on to Pharmacy, becoming one of our Certified Oncology Pharmacy Technicians. Co-workers comment about Bob’s jovial personality and how he brightens the pharmacy! Bob has advanced his career here at Deaconess all while raising three kids and being very involved in church, Boy Scouts and the Reitz band.

Victor Jackson

Dietetics Patient Food Services Victor began employment at Deaconess in September 1973 as a cart-handler relief in Dietetics, and he was ultimately promoted to storeroom inspector. His responsibilities include requisitioning, warehousing, inventorying and distributing more than $2 million worth of food products annually. Victor always has a quick smile and a customer-focused approach. Victor won the blue ribbon for the Corporate Challenge for chess playing for Deaconess in the early eighties.

Laundry and Linen Rick has been with the Laundry Department for 40 years. He is a very dedicated employee who takes his job seriously and is always on time. He has a great sense of humor, which he brings to work every day. He always is there for someone else, whether it be work or family. He loves to spend his spare time outdoors with his family.

Marylyn Oakley

Ortho-Medical Care Center Marylyn is hard-working, loyal and very compassionate. She is always willing to lend a hand. She will do anything to help a patient and is a true patient advocate. We are happy to have her on the OMCC team and appreciate her years of service.

Fonda Russell

Call Center Fonda graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing. Most of her time at Deaconess was on the Pediatric Unit; however, she is now using that knowledge in the Call Center triage line. Fonda is instrumental in the training of new nursing staff to the Call Center

JaLoy Stogner

Medical Records - Operations After graduating from Lockyear Business College, JaLoy began working at Deaconess Hospital as a unit secretary. After working 20 years on various units of the hospital, JaLoy transferred to Medical Records and currently works as a Medical Records Specialist. JaLoy is known for paying attention to details and having a questioning attitude. JaLoy has received many cards for going above and beyond for helping patients with their records. Thank you, JaLoy, for 40 years of dedicated service to the Deaconess team.

Susan Turpen

Radiology Susan began her career at Deaconess in Radiology in July 1974. She has grown from an office assistant to a Radiology Analyst who saves us money and generates revenue daily. I asked her peers to give me a few words to describe her, and they all say the same thing, Jack of All Trades. She is the trusted, loyal, goto person for all things Radiology. She has the respect of technical staff and physicians alike, and that is not always an easy task!

Melva Taylor

Emergency Room Melva joined Deaconess in 1972 and has worked in the Emergency Department throughout her years of service. Melva has adapted to the many changes that have taken place in the ED over the years. She is willing to do whatever is asked of her, and she is loved and respected by her team. Thank you for your many years of service.

Ann Williams

Home Medical Equipment Ann started to work at Deaconess in July 1974 as a staff nurse in SICU, where she worked for 15 years. She was one of the first nurses to receive specialized training prior to opening the Open Heart Program at Deaconess. For the next six years, beginning in June 1989, Ann was coordinator of the IV Team, developing the PICC program at Deaconess in 1991. In March 1995, Ann transferred to HME and obtained her CRNI in 1997. Ann and Rick have been married for 27 years and live in historic Newburgh.

Marian Kay Myers

Radiology Kay Myers began her career in September 1968 in Radiology as a radiologic technologist. She quickly moved over to Nuclear Medicine when we began offering that service line. She has seen firsthand how technology has changed our field. I asked her co-workers to give me a couple of words to describe Kay. They used the words loyal, compassionate and dependable. I couldn’t agree more. Kay is an “owner” by every definition of the word.

Nancy Schuldt

Call Center Nancy has been a dedicated RN at Deaconess for 45 years. She recently retired, so we wish her a very happy and well-deserved retirement! Nancy graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing. She worked nights on the Oncology unit for many years, as well as taught at our School of Nursing. She was one of the nurses to start the Call Center triage line and was instrumental in its growth and success. She is the Lead Nurse at the time of her retirement. She will be missed!
