Australasian Pacific Mail Steam Packet Co 12th Oct 1852 (10 certificates, seven consecutively numbered) The company was formed by members of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company and Pacific Steam Navigation Company in April 1852 to provide a monthly trans Pacific service, and a fleet of five iron screw passenger/cargo steamers was ordered. In addition, a smaller vessel was ordered to provide a feeder service between Sydney and Port Philip. By the time the first steamer was delivered in 1854 the whole scheme had been abandoned due to high coal prices in the Pacific region, and the outbreak of the Crimean War finally caused the winding up of the company Est. $400

Australian Royal Mail Steam Navigation Co 25th August 1852 (24 consecutively numbered certificates) The company was formed in 1852 and provided the first regular steamship service between the United Kingdom and Australia via the Cape of Good Hope after being awarded a contract for the carriage of mails by that route. However, the service proved so unreliable that the mail contract was rescinded in April 1853. The outbreak of the Crimean War in March 1954 caused the withdrawal of the service as four of the company’s five ships were chartered by the British Government for troop transport. The last remaining vessel was sold in that year. The troop ships were returned to the company in 1857 but were laid up awaiting disposal. The company was finally wound up in 1860 and the remaining vessels sold Est. $500

He purchased land on the north bank of the river and created the township of Corowa. Capital consisted of 49,4880 shares of £5 and 60 founder’s shares of £10. The company’s name changed to the Colonial Gas Assn Ltd in 1893. At one point in the 1920s it was the fifth largest gas producer in Australia. It was delisted after being taken over by Colonial Gas Holdings Limited 21st Oct 1953, which was subsequently subsumed by the Gas & Fuel Corporation of Victoria after the introduction of natural gas supplies to the state in the early 1970s Est. $100
