SERIES 6 STUDY SCHEDULE The study schedule in the following pages organizes your preparation for the Series 6 exam by arranging the study materials and activities into learning modules. Each of these modules should take about 2 hours to complete. Spend more or less time depending on how quickly you master the information or your previous experience with the topic. In any event, do not skip any of the questions — a major objective of your study is to know how to read and correctly answer the types of multiple choice questions you will face on your examination. Do not take these test questions when you are tired or preoccupied with other matters. Doing so will cause you to miss questions you would otherwise not miss and give a false reading on your understanding for that topic. You may complete as many modules as your daily study schedule allows — but we do not recommend doing more than 4 modules in any 8–hour study day. You should also take a brief break after each two–hour module. Read the rationales for all questions. If you missed the question, review the text topics to determine whether you did not know the material or you misread the question You have mastered material when you get test scores of 90 or higher on section quizzes or 80 or higher on chapter, mid-term, or final exam quizzes. If you are consistently scoring below these contact Keir (800-795-5347) to have an instructor assist you on that topic. Note the “code” number (e.g. 4-3-21-1) at the bottom of the answer on the CD and Smart6 rationales. Having this code available when an instructor calls to help to allow the instructor to see the same question and more easily assist you. Be sure you understand the meaning of all vocabulary terms at the beginning of each section in the text. Many students make index cards for them, placing the term on one side and the meaning on the other side. Smart6 students can click on any blue underlined text to get the glossary definition. Using borrowed (and this usually mean older or out dated) study materials may expose you to information updated since their publication. The test expects you to know current materials. The test will not, however, hold you to the most current qualified plan contribution amounts. You should know about what they are and how to apply them. The test question will never depend upon knowing this year’s maximum relative to last year’s. This study schedule refers to several optional study materials. Students may successfully prepare for the exam without them, but many students find them helpful to understanding the topics. We include them here so you will know where they fit, if you choose to use them. We make every effort to avoid errors in the text, study materials, and practice questions. If we miss one, please let us know as soon as you discover it. EXAM NOTES: there are approximately 20 questions on the FINRA exam on Investment Companies (Ch 3) and 25 questions on Regulations (Ch 8). Thus, these two chapters are almost half of the exam. You cannot pass the Series 6 exam without mastering these two chapters. Do not become obsessive about the following areas of the exam; they contain difficult content, but each has only about 5 questions on the exam: Investment Securities (Chapter 1) Securities Markets/Analysis (Chapter 2) Taxation (Chapter 4)

SERIES 6 STUDY SCHEDULE FINALLY: Do not “over-think” test questions. This is an entry level exam where knowing too much about a topic can lead you to think about situations not included in the question. Read each question in full and answer only what it asks you.

SERIES 6 STUDY SCHEDULE Notes for taking the practice final examinations: Your next study assignments involve taking practice final examinations. Take no more than 2 of these final exams a day (if studying full time). Trying a third test is often not productive because fatigue may cause you to miss questions you normally would answer correctly. This can have a negative effect on your confidence. It’s more productive to take tests when you are at your mental best. Reserve other study times for more “routine” studies, such as vocabulary review. It is important to review all answers. You want to learn: 1. If you missed the question: what you did wrong 2. If you answered correctly: what you want to remember doing right. These tests cover all 8 chapters. We designed them to mimic the actual FINRA test process. We cannot, of course mimic their actual questions, but these questions are of the same types and they cover the FINRA syllabus topics. You should routinely score 80% or higher on these tests. 1. If you are not scoring in that range, consider contacting Keir (800-795-5347) to have an instructor work with you on questions you are missing. 2. If you are routinely scoring in that range, schedule your actual test within a day or two of the date you anticipate completing the practice final exams.

An instructor can diagnose whether the problem is your understanding of the material or how you are reading the questions — and then offer suggestions to correct the problem. Have the question location (e.g. purple book, page 216, question 63) or code (e.g. 24-12-3) so the instructor can look at the same question. You have two more practice finals in the Practice Exam Book. If you are scoring in the 80’s you should schedule your actual exam for a day or two after you complete these tests.
