Design Features High performance architectural sliding door system designed for high rise apartments. The 101.60mm frame is compatible with CentreGLAZE™ and FrontGLAZE™ framing and can be coupled together in runs of framing and doors. The door is ideal for projects that require very high water resistance when the door panels are not excessively big. As the moving sash is on the outside we get very high water resistance - 600Pa. Also complies with the air-conditioning requirements of the Australian Standard. There are a large variety of door combinations possible (XF, FX, FXF, XFF, FFX and FXXF). We can fit sliding flydoors on the inside. Maximum recommended screen door size 2400mm by 1200mm wide. But be aware there are glass door locking limitations when fitting flydoors - Some handles/locks can get too close to the screen door frame. These screen doors can be fitted with a variety of infills including stainless steel mesh. The head and jamb framing sections have integrated nailing fins to suit cavity brick and brick veneer installations. The 30mm nailing fin jamb is standard, we also offer an alternative 44mm nailing fin jamb for those that want the extra bold frame all round. Doors can be fitted with surface or mortice deadlocks. But as mentioned above be careful when screen doors are on the inside as some lock handles clash with the screen door frame. Sashes run on custom lowline heavy duty double bogey wheel carriages.

Tall bottom rail designed for added strength and make the doors proportionally correct. The top and bottom rails on wide panels are reinforced, the concealed rail stiffener wraps around the sill running rail for added security and is morticed into the stiles at head. Unwanted head recess is fitted with snap-in flat closer to ensure that the clean looks are maintained. Doors can be fitted with highlights if required with run through jambs. These highlights can be fixed lights or awning sashes. Panels will accept a variety of glass thicknesses from 4mm to 20mm insulating glass units. Dedicated sash rail and stiles for 8.38mm, 10.38mm and 10.50mm laminated and 16mm IGU's. Sub-sill as illustrated right is standard. Matching Series 461 sliding window available.

APART M E N T S L I D I N G D OOR TYPICAL CONFIGURATIONS Series 471 can be fabricated as ‘XF’, ‘FX’, ‘FXF’, ‘XFF’, ‘FFX’ and ‘FXXF’ with or without highlights.

Strength Note: On Sliding Doors with transoms the transom strength could be the weak link, refer local AWS sales office for transom strength details. Sub-sills are always recommended under Series 471 doors and on the higher water ratings we tip water down into the sub-sill. The illustration below shows standard sub-sill. To secure the sash in the frame the bottom rail wraps over the frame running rail. On wider sashes or high wind load areas the rails are fitted with rail stiffener as shown left. Optional Flydoors - We offer a variety of flydoor frames that can be used in this sliding door. Two mitred frames covering plain mesh and expanded aluminium inserts. alternative We offer a custom square cut screen door system that matches the main glass door in assembly and sightline. This square cut frame will accept any flyscreen insert including stainless steel mesh. Other screen door features: •

Integrated snap-on interlock that picks up the built-in interlock on the door meeting stile.

Spring loaded wheel in all four corners with running rail on head and sill to ensure smooth flydoor operation and a door that stays on the track.

Skirted top and bottom rails cover rollers.

Weatherpile insert in frame (head) to slow the screen doors down.

The right lock or latch for the project. Flydoor latches come with stainless steel ‘Z’ keepers as standard. The security barrier lock has multipoint tongues into stainless steel keeper for added security.

Screen Door Limitations: • We don’t recommend screen doors over 2400mm high x 1200mm wide. •

Internal view with optional flydoor

As the screen doors are close to the main glass doors there are limitations on the type of glass door locks - ANDO™ slimline recommended for doors with screen doors.

Rating tables for door meeting stiles on this page. S = Serviceability limit state (deflection = L/180 or deflection L/250). U = Ultimate strength limit state (factored yield strength = 104 MPa).

These tables have been calculated using nominal section properties. A typical assembly has been tested as per the requirements of AS2047, The examples shown on this page are based on rail with stiffener included as panels are over 900mm wide. On ‘FXXF’ doors the centre meeting stile may be the limiting factor, this is why heavy and extra heavy meeting stile rate the same.

TRANSOM WEATHERPROOFING

An impor tant feature with Elevate™ Commercial windows and doors is the way we treat transoms. We assume that water will get into the transom assembly. To deal with this water we seal the transom to the jambs with custom pocket closer and small joint caulking. We drill drainage holes in the pocketed transom filler. There is a weather bar in the lower section. Concealed drainage holes to guide water out of the assembly.

REINFORCED BOTTOM RAIL This page highlights how we treat the most important factor on external sliding doors. The weak link on sliding doors can be the horizontal rail particularly on wide panels or doors in high wind load areas. In these situations we fit custom horizontal rail stiffeners. All Series 471 doors have tall bottom rails. To allow the bottom rail to overlap the running rail we have designed a double wheel assembly with lowline wheels that have high precision 'ZZ' bearings.

The stiffened meeting stile is fitted with snap-in aluminium closer. The bottom rail is double screwed to stiles, this prevents rail twist under high ultimate wind loads. When the stiffener is fitted to top rail the stiffener is morticed into the stile as detailed below. © Architectural Window Systems Pty Ltd 1996-2013

Besides significantly increasing the strength of the bottom rail the stiffener nests over the running rail.
