Jr. Soldier Lesson 1 –How we Got the Bible Main Theme: How we Got the Bible Total Time: 25 minutes (and a 5 minute break) Intro & History (5 minutes) Have a stack of random books in front of the teacher for demonstration. Go over history and doctrine on page 24 of the lesson (barefootonline.com) Opening Activity & Lesson (15 minutes) Pages 25-27 from Lesson 1 (barefootonline.org) – Follow the lesson as written Lesson additions: Doctrine Balloon Pop Before class place one or two words of Doctrine 1 (found below) in each balloon. Blow them up and have them ready in a trash bag. Make one bag each for each team of Jr. Soldiers (based on the size of your group). Each team will get a bag filled with the balloons. They will make a line behind the bag. The first person in the line will grab one balloon, pass it over their head to the next person. That person will pass it under their legs to the next person, that person will pass over their head (over/under) until it gets to the end of the line. The person at the end of the line will pop the balloon by sitting on it, remove the pieces of paper, and place them on the table. This person will then run(or walk!) to the front of the line and grab the next balloon out of the bag, repeating the process until all balloons have been popped. Once all the pieces of paper are on the table, the group will have to work together to assemble the Doctrine in it’s proper form. The first group to complete the task wins. Doctrine 1: “We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.” How We Got the Bible Handout – page 34 John 3:16 in Greek (separate PDF) to pass around the class or project Picture of Johannes Guttenberg (separate PDF) to pass around or project Crossword Puzzle (5 minutes) Pass out the crossword handout (page 35). Allow the students 5 minutes to finish. You can award a prize for the first one or the first few who finish. Then assign them to help with younger students who may be having a harder time. Bathroom Break (5 minutes)

Jr. Soldiers Lesson 3 – Overview of the Old Testament Main theme: God’s promises and His faithfulness Total Time: 30 minutes Promise Test (2 minutes) At the beginning of this section, pass out a “fun sized” candy bar to each child. Tell them that they can either eat their candy bar now, at any time during the next two sections, or they can wait. If they wait until the end of these sections without eating their candy bar (it still has to be in front of them where they can see it) then there will be something better for them. Have regular sized candy bars ready for the end of the next section. Tell them that God made promises to people in the Bible, in fact, the entire Old Testament is full of the promises of God. Lesson (13 minutes) Follow along with the lesson plan for this unit found on barefootonline.com. Also use the handouts that accompany the lesson. Promise Problems (5 minutes) Using the “Promise Problems” worksheet found in the lesson ask the questions, but make it an interactive game. Designate one side of the room for “True” and one side of the room as “False.” Have students walk (not run!) to one side of the room or the other as they think of the answer. Ark of the Covenant Craft (10 minutes) Pass out the sheets printed on cardstock (pages 82-85) in the lesson. Help students put these together to remember God’s promises.
