THIS IS HOBBY HELP SERIES FOR SENIORS.

I am compiling a series of things to do - what to do to counter loneliness, in addition, how to go about it. This is about Technical hobbies for those who are technically inclined. It is about woodworking, ham radios, magic tricks, and suchlike activities. I have given necessary links and info about each activity. I have tested all the links mentioned. As on October 2009, all links are secure, correct and working. You should look for more as you surf. You may find many that will suit to your needs. This is just a first step.

Please feel free to share this with anyone you like.

Technical Hobbies

A person who works with his hands is A laborer. A person who works with his hands and his brain is A craftsman. A person who works with his hands, his brain and his heart Is an artist Louis Nizer

Though emancipated women may take offense I will assert that most men are technically prone, (They are from Mars!), and like to tinker with machinery. Almost all DIY (Do It Yourself) enthusiasts are men, who like to work with their hands to create or at least repair things. Hence I am specially addressing this piece to menfolk. All ye people who are nuts and loose screwed about anything with nut and bolts, like exact measurements, can read drawings and follow complex instructions, read on. Heaven is here! The most useful and easy task is of course to tend to your car and other sundry Home electric /electronic items. If you do not succeed in curing them of their various ailments, you can still guide and frustrate the mechanic. It has its own charm (I mean to you, NOT to the mechanic!).

If that is not to your complete satisfaction and you still need more time pass employment, here are some resources you might like. All these sites are virtual treasure troves. Take your time to browse. Just looking at things might inspire you. You will need some tools depending on what you want to make. Assess frankly your interests, span of attention, and stamina. It is better to browse around before buying anything expensive. The introduction of each site is mostly from the site itself.

Woodworking Woodworking is not simple carpentry, but creative expression. It can be a really satisfying hobby, but needs Strength and stamina. You will also have to invest in a variety of tools. To make any ordinary piece of woodwork you don't need many tools but each one should be the very best, for therein half the pleasure lies. Different Saws, Hammer, Chisel, Planer, Bore and Bit, Squares, Screw drivers, Nails and screws are some essential items. A table to work is needed to work without strain. First, gauge your own physical strength before shelling out for tools. Woodworking can be unsafe. Injuries are always a possibility in a woodworking center. And it can be Expensive. Good, highfeatured tools are costly, but they are a long-lasting investment. The most important rule of woodworking is to always wear safety glasses, no matter what task you're performing in the workshop Quality woodworking is done with hand tools, calmly and thoughtfully at your own speed. If you are still in the contemplation phase, wondering if woodworking is something that might be of interest to you, then browse online for sites related to this interesting hobby

Ham Radio Ham radio is the world's greatest hobby that can save lives. It's a hobby that instantly turns into a life saving service whenever there's a disaster or large-scale emergency. On September 11th, it was ham radio that kept New York City agencies in touch with each other after their command center was destroyed. When hurricanes like Katrina, Rita and Wilma or tornadoes or floods knock out other communications, ham radio provides vital life-anddeath capabilities. But 99% of the time, hams do what they do because it's just plain fun.

Who's the Typical Ham? Amateur Radio operators come from all walks of life -- movie stars, missionaries, doctors, students, politicians, truck drivers and just plain folks. They are all ages, sexes, income levels and nationalities. They say Hello to the world in many languages and many ways. But whether they prefer Morse code on an old brass telegraph key, voice communication on a hand-held radio, or computerized messages transmitted via satellite, they all have an interest in what's happening in the world, and they use radio to reach out. http://www.hello-radio.org/

Photography It used to be an expensive hobby, but with new digital cameras is getting affordable in the sense that though the camera is expensive, recurring expenses of reels and developing charges are not there. With web cams and phone cameras is even more easy – just shoot and send or view in real time! There are many kinds of photography including Still, Movie and Video. Different kind of cameras are needed for some special kind of photography. That is a wide subject and if interested you can find more about your special area of appeal. I just want to mention about cameras that can photograph an Aura. AURA PHOTOGRAPHY

Aura and Kirilian photography is very interesting. An AURA is the electromagnetic energy field that surrounds, and flows around all living things. The colors and patterns within this energy can be photographed and apparently show the state of our physical, mental and spiritual health.

Faux Stained Glass Stained glass painting is an extremely difficult craft. Luckily today similar effects can be achieved with new glass paints, plexiglass and / or plastic sheets. This is fast and easy way, although synthetic, to fake "The Look of Stained Glass". With this product, you wont be a stained glass artist, but your efforts will be admired by your friends, relatives and neighbors. Crylin had sets of glass paints, as well as kits. Though oil and acrylic paints can be used also. There are several techniques here. 1. You paint on the glass with glass paints. 2. Paint part of the picture and back it up with dome foil or other paper. 3. Paint on strong cling film, let it dry, peel and stick on glass.

Here are some lessons and ideas: Faux Stained Glass Make fake stained glass with hot glue, plexiglass, and paint! Cheap, easy, and pretty. Complete lesson with photos. http://www.instructables.com/id/Faux_Stained_Glass/
